    Holden Beach RV Campground

    Everything we need

This place has everything we need. Decent size sites, water, 30Amp, sewer, great WiFi (repeaters positioned at every other site, especially in the new section). There is also a playground, dog park, camp store, nearby grocery and other stores, etc. spent 5 nights, Sun - Thu night and really enjoyed it. Some monthly campers around who were friendly and helpful. We were a 5 minute drive to the beach and not far from other sites that we were looking to visit. The staff was also very nice and helpful. We were led to our site and the guide made sure we were OK and would have stayed had we needed help. Will do this again when visiting that area.

    Wilmington KOA

    Near the beach.

Wilmington  Koa is a nice campground with full hookups and all the "stuff" for the family to enjoy. It has a large pool, but no kiddie pool. They are working on the bathhouses so its a work in progress. Even so they are nice. The showers are very small, but useable. The location is near just about everything. The main road turning into the place can be jammed with traffic at times. The state has been building a bypass for the past 10 years and its still not finished. The camp spots are very spacious and the hookups are easy to get to. The workers are always friendly and willing to help. They have a nice dog park. We have stayed there numerous times and always have a good time.

    Holden Beach RV Campground

    Great Stay!

We loved our time at Holden Beach RV Park! The staff is so friendly, and the campground is beautifully maintained. It’s in a perfect location too.

Upon check in we were escorted to our site, and they even helped us back in. The bathrooms and laundry were clean and kept up well during our stay. There’s a small playground and a pretty big dog park. We were there during Thanksgiving, so they had a potluck meal for all of the guests in the park. We really enjoyed that!

The gift shop is super cute, and they have the biggest DVD library for free rentals!

The only negative was that our site seemed to be one of the few that directly faced another site even though it did not show that on the park map. We ended up being super close to the other campers (so much so that we were basically all around the same fire pit) which was a little uncomfortable since they were strangers.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back! We will just make sure to pick a different site number next time.

Campsite at Wallace Meadows Farm / RV site at Wallace Meadows Farm

    Lovely place to camp!

We recently stayed overnight at Wallace Meadows and it was one of the most lovely places we've ever been to! Rich was very friendly and welcoming and the hookup & amenities they offered for a fee were excellent. The bath house was spotless and we each enjoyed a nice hot shower! The property is surrounded by trees and it was very tranquil. There's even a guesthouse which could possibly accommodate fellow travelers who may not have an RV. There's also a laundry room but we didn't use it. They have a background in hospitality and it really shows. Before we left, we purchased some fresh eggs from their farm, beautifully packaged and delicious! We will return to North Carolina. There's so much to see here and we'll definitely return to Wallace Meadows Farm.

    Carolina Beach State Park Campground

    beach + camping = awesome

Carolina beach state park is one of my favorite places to go in North Carolina. Not only does it have an awesome campground, but it's right near one of the best beaches I've ever been to. The sites are nice and secluded, just how I like them. Most of the sites are tent sites, but they have a few full hookup sites for RVs and some cabins to rent too. All of the sites have picnic tables, fire rings, and drinking water.

Within the park, there are tons of hiking trails through a really beautiful area. I hear the fishing is also really good within the park, but I've never done it myself. The only downside is you can't swim within the park, because the currents can get dangerous. The beach is only like 5 minutes away though, so not really a big deal.

As for the beach, it's my favorite one to go to in the states. I like it because it's not really touristy like the outer banks or myrtle beach. Not a whole lot of people come to it, so it's always pretty secluded and clean. In July, the water temperature is perfect, the waves are nice, and it's great all around.

    Awesome spot in NC.

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park Campground

Cliffs above the Neuse River is the biggest draw for campers here.

I have camped in this state park several times, including with the Boy Scouts. Other than the park itself, I really enjoyed the camaraderie when our Scout troop and another Scout troop that was camping were playing“Capture the Flag.” I say all of this because it is a great place for group camping. However, it also has conventional camping and cabins. When I first started camping at Cliffs of the Neuse, it did not have more than a mile of trails. Now it has added some more trails. It also did not have showers or cabins in times past. This park has improved significantly over the years and now has showers that are frequently maintained. One of the things you have to be aware of is that this park is sandy, so when you are camping, you will probably want to put some kind of rug in front of your tent or RV to minimize the amount of sand that you track in. Don’t think choosing another site will move you away from the sand. It won’t. Another thing you have to be aware of is that in eastern North Carolina, fire ants can be a huge problem. Some of the trails are easy, but the Spanish Moss Trail is quite steep in some places. Also, the Galax trail is almost always flooded during the spring or after a series of rains. There is a lake for swimming and a large picnic shelter. On weekends, it is not unusual for there to be lots of people at the picnic shelters, so you will have to reserve them. The sites have picnic tables and fire pits as well. This is a great park for swimming and boating, but the hiking is limited. If I am not mistaken, the total length of trails is fewer three miles. However, the main attraction is the view over the Neuse River and the new visitor’s center. Even with limited trails, it is still a great park for relaxing.

    Carolina Beach State Park Campground

    Two night stay

Had a great time camping and hiking around with my dog jinx. It was his first camping trip he seems to like it here as much as I did. be aware of the raccoons!! They will get close to you at nighttime. Bathhouse was clean and close by. Picked a sight on the waterway side. Throughly enjoyed walking back behind my camp site to the water!! Trails weren't as great as I'd expected. But still a nice day hiking around. Can't wait to go back again!!!

What to do

Level spacious sites, most with a good shade tree, allows for a quick set up." Another mentioned, "Everything was clean, staff courteous, and check-in process was easy (after hours). Not a single complaint."

Waterfront views: The Inlet Campground (formerly Laniers Campground) offers scenic water views that campers appreciate. Off-season camping: Winter months provide a quieter experience at area campgrounds. One Carolina Beach State Park visitor noted, "I've been here at different times of the year. I really enjoy camping here in December and January. Less people and the park is so nice." This offers an alternative to the crowded summer season for pet friendly camping near Burgaw.

What you should know

Site spacing varies: At Lake Leamon Family Campground, one camper observed that while the "small lake is beautiful and full of fish," they also noted "the camp itself is outdated. The so-called bathhouses need a severe update." Understanding facility limitations helps set proper expectations.

Beach access logistics: Some campgrounds advertise beach proximity but require short drives. For Wilmington KOA, a camper explained, "This campground is a little farther than I think most people would like to be from a the beach, but it's so professional and friendly!" Knowledge of exact distances helps with trip planning.

Wildlife considerations: When camping near Burgaw with pets, wildlife awareness is important. Bring appropriate insect repellent when camping in warmer months.

A visitor noted, "The playground was awesome and included a cool wooden pirate ship. The grandkids loved it!" Beach proximity for children: When traveling with kids, Nick's Nook Family Campground offers convenient amenities: "Nick (the owner) is super helpful and they even have item you may have forgotten they will lend out. Firewood is provided." This can be particularly helpful for families who might forget essentials.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds offer swimming opportunities. At Black River Camping Ventures, "The river was lots of fun. Most was pretty shallow and a huge sand bar area. The kids loved it and dogs too." These shallow areas provide safer swimming for younger children.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Many campgrounds near Burgaw offer full hookups, but service levels vary. At The Inlet Campground, campers should note: "There is only one bathhouse and most sites are close together. Many permanent sites, but are extremely friendly." This affects how self-sufficient you need to be.

Park assistance: Some campgrounds provide help with parking larger vehicles. A Surf City Family Campground visitor mentioned, "The owners are very nice. He will even help park your rv with his tractor." This service can be particularly valuable for less experienced RV drivers or those with larger rigs.
