Camp Clearwater

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

White Lake has drawn summer visitors to its white-sand bottom and clear water for decades, and Camp Clearwater sits directly on its shore, giving campers straightforward access to swimming, boating, and waterfront sites. This is an established, privately run campground, not a wilderness experience. As Elizabeth V. puts it, "this definitely isn't wilderness camping," and the mix of permanent residents and overnight sites makes that clear from the start.

The campground runs busy, particularly on weekends and through summer. Sites are long enough to accommodate RVs up to 70 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, but they sit close together. Golf carts are a recurring topic in reviews, with multiple campers noting that they move fast and are frequently driven by young children. Families with kids tend to find the most value here, given the gradual lake depth, sandy beach, and organized weekend activities including bingo and live music. WiFi is available on-site, though reviewers describe it as inconsistent. Cell service has come up as a concern across several reviews. The Tradition at White Lake and Gilligans Island Resort Campground are nearby alternatives along the same shoreline for those who want to compare options.

Bathhouses are updated and include laundry facilities, though cleanliness has been inconsistent according to multiple reviewers. Fishing in the area can be challenging due to the lake's acidity. Campers who come primarily for the water and the social atmosphere of a busy family campground will find Camp Clearwater well-suited to that kind of stay.

For young family camping

This campground is an excellent place for young family campers. All the activities are set up for younger family entertainment. All businesses in the immediate surrounding areas are set up for the same young families.

This is a great place to stop at for a short time if you are a single person or an older couple that enjoys a very busy campground. The campground is maintained. The office staff are very courteous and nice. There are a couple of bath houses at the camping areas and a laundry center. Both the bathhouses we’re updated, but not very clean. I stayed 2 1/2 weeks and it was only cleaned properly a couple times.

If you fish, the area is not very fish friendly. If you have a boat, bring it. You might have a better chance of success. Most of the lakes in the area are very acidic and it is challenging to catch limited fish.

All in all, this is a great campground. This was just a bit too busy for me.

Busy Campground

This is a very large campground with mostly full-time people. Nice laundry facilities, decent sized transient sites, beautiful beach and piers. It was "off-season" but the weekends were quite busy. There is a 5mph campground rule that most definitely is NOT followed. Kids and adults drive golf carts like it's the Indy 500. Was a nice stay, but probably won't go back.

Great place for Kids

Have been going to Camp Clearwater ever since it started back in the late 60s. Has always been a great place to go especially for kids. The water is very clear and the beaches and the bottom of the lake or a white sand like at the ocean.Campsites are very tight but very long. The Wi-Fi is OK but as in most campgrounds not very reliable. Golf carts are a problem, with very young kids driving them. Are being used a babysitter. I always book my site at a speed bump. Very good free entertainment with teenagers and golf carts. Nice place to stay 👍👍👍👍👍

Not my vibe

Camp Clearwater is mostly permanent structures, this definitely isn’t wilderness camping. We didn’t end up staying at our site once we saw how busy it was The swimming beach wasn’t clean, but it was a fun place for kids to play.

Sandy Beaches and Clear Water

The sites are laid out well and like most privately owned campgrounds are very close together. The campground is a mix of permanent and overnight sites. Golf carts are allowed in the park and can become a nuisance at times. Often see you kids driving carts which is concerning. Wifi service within the campground is good. Great areas for kids to play. Activities were subdued this year due to COVID-19 but the campground usually has many activities. Great swimming area and beach. This is the perfect location for kids as the water is very clear and the change in water depth is gradual. Great sunsets across the lake. This campground has become a yearly tradition.
