Accessible via the rough John Dunn Bridge road, this BLM dispersed camping area sits on level sites above the Rio Grande gorge. The campground accommodates big rigs and allows campfires, though campers should prepare for challenging road conditions that require vehicles with good suspension. An alternative exit route leads directly to Highway 64, avoiding the return trip over the bridge.
Sites provide Verizon cell coverage but remain positioned above the gorge rather than at river level. Morning visitors may encounter hot air balloon launches, as commercial operators use the area for preparation and takeoff. The Bureau of Land Management prohibits pets at this location.
