Santa Fe Skies RV Park offers 97 year-round sites with full hookups and mountain views, while more rustic options exist in the nearby Santa Fe National Forest where dispersed camping is permitted along BLM Road 62. Hyde Memorial State Park, located along the road to Ski Santa Fe, provides established campgrounds with yurts available for those seeking alternative accommodations. Camping conditions vary significantly with elevation and season throughout the Santa Fe region. Summer temperatures can exceed 90°F in lower elevations while remaining pleasantly cool in the mountains. Winter brings snow to higher elevations, particularly at Hyde Memorial State Park, where four-wheel drive vehicles become necessary for access. Cell service is notably limited throughout northern New Mexico, with many campers reporting "practically non-existent" coverage that creates what one visitor called "a total digital detox." Fire restrictions are common during dry periods, with several established campgrounds prohibiting open flames entirely. Campers should verify current regulations before arrival and bring adequate water supplies, as some dispersed sites lack potable water.

Visitor experiences highlight the stark beauty of the high desert landscape and mountain vistas. "I fell in love with New Mexico's wilderness many years ago with its sparse dry landscape and sagebrush, and the wide open starry skies at night," noted one camper at the Santa Fe Treehouse Camp. The region's camping areas provide access to numerous hiking trails, with several sites positioned near streams or rivers for fishing opportunities. Wildlife sightings are common, with reviewers mentioning deer, hummingbirds, and chipmunks frequenting campsites. Travelers seeking solitude should consider the more remote forest service roads, while those wanting amenities might prefer established campgrounds like Rancheros de Santa Fe, which offers clean facilities, hot showers, and seasonal amenities including a swimming pool.

      Albuquerque KOA Journey

Great campground with plenty of amenities. Showers are really nice and clean but could be a little warmer in there. Conveniently located right off Route 66 and I noticed that some reviews mentioned the noise from the hi way but I didn’t hear any traffic.

      Placitas BLM

      Nice flat spot easy

It was an interesting drive to get to with the winding road but once you're up on the plateau it's pretty easy to set up camp and park I haven't even put any levelers down on my camper. Great views and fairly close to civilization as needed.

      Santa Fe Skies RV Park

Expensive.. nice facility… I stayed 2 nights.. needed to use the laundry.. wash machines are super tiny and $3.25 a pop… I used 3 and 1 didn’t dispense enough water. Then another $3.25 for the dryer… at least it was big. People are friendly.

      Rancheros de Santa Fe

Amazing Staff and a Wonderful Cabin Stay!

**Wonderful Stay and Great Customer Service!**
We had a really nice experience at Rancheros de Santa Fe! We originally booked one of the domes, but due to damage from the recent rain, we were upgraded to a cabin. The ladies at the front office were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They really made us feel taken care of. The cabin was very clean, cozy, and comfortable, which made our stay even better. The bathrooms were also very clean and well-maintained, which is something I really appreciate when traveling. I also loved that our cabin was located right behind the main office. Since it was just my girlfriend and me traveling together, being so close to the office gave us an extra sense of safety and peace of mind. Even though our original plans changed, everything worked out great. We really appreciated the hospitality and how accommodating the staff was. I would definitely recommend Rancheros de Santa Fe and would love to stay here again!

White Rock Visitor Center RV Park

      County Managed Parking Lot

Location is a lined parking lot with 16 sites. Electric hook up at each site. Water spigot available along with dump station. Lot is not level so be prepared with blocks and chocks. Price is great for what you get. Spacing is close. Also be aware that lot is managed by Los Alamos county. Sites listed as taken may be vacant while sites listed as vacant may be taken. We arrived and a camper was on our reserved site. Owner could not be located. Reps are difficult to reach by phone and we got lots of phone tag. Nice lady moved us to an open site. Then someone showed up with a reservation for our new site. Then we were told to leave for a construction project. Then we were told they can’t manage the campground occupancy. And on and on. To reserve a site you’ll need an account on the county system first. We made it work but a hassle and a run around.

      Main Gate RV Park

      Parking Lot for RVs

This is a 10 slot parking lot for RVs. There is a dump station, water spigot, and a couple picnic tables. It’s on a hill so need leveling. Can be tricky to back in so check first. Reservations must be made thru Los Alamos county web site, and you’ll need to create an account to use it, a real pain especially if on shaky connection. Also tricky, reserved sites may be empty and available sites may be occupied. They are not managed properly at all so be ready for anything. Ok for parking your rig while visiting the area.
