Sitting above 9,000 feet in Carson National Forest, Middle Canjilon Campground gives anglers direct access to the Canjilon Lakes, though the approach involves a rough dirt road out of Canjilon and an asphalt stretch with several large potholes. Sites have asphalt paving, picnic tables, and fire pits, but most are not level, and narrow roads can make maneuvering larger trailers difficult. Free to use, with vault toilets on-site.
Roaming cattle are a regular presence and will wander through sites, so pet owners should plan accordingly. Downed wood from a past fire is plentiful nearby, and new growth between sites provides some separation. The Canjilon Lakes draw crowds, particularly during fishing season, so arriving early in the week improves the odds of securing a spot.
