Echo Amphitheater Campground — Carson National Forest

Carson National Forest manages Echo Amphitheater Campground, a small established facility along US Highway 84 north of Canjilon. The campground features nine sites with electric hookups, three of which accommodate pull-through access for RVs up to 54 feet. Sites include concrete picnic tables and metal fire rings, with most offering level parking suitable for travel trailers.

The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $20 per night, reduced to $10 with a senior parks pass. Each site has electric hookups that eliminate generator noise, while a heated restroom building provides hot and cold running water during operating seasons. Water service at the handicapped-accessible site gets turned off during cooler months. Don M. notes the facility has "a older but clean heated rest room with hot and cold running water."

The natural rock amphitheater formation sits within walking distance via a short trail with stairs. Cell service works well for T-Mobile users, and traffic on Highway 84 diminishes significantly after dark. The location provides convenient access to Ghost Ranch and other area attractions. Campers can explore additional campgrounds around Carson National Forest for extended stays in the region.

This campground works well for RV travelers seeking hookups and day hikers interested in the geological formation nearby.

Breathtaking views

Echo amphitheater is a cool spot. The only downside is approximately to the highway. Traffic was lighter from 10 PM to 6 AM but still a couple of cars were by.

One of the nicest USFS campgrounds

The campground is well maintained, sites are well spaced. Electric hookups eliminate need for generators and associated noise. $20/ night or $10 with senior parks pass. Beautiful surroundings. As soon as we pulled in, wife says “book 4 nights”.

Beautiful

9 spots. Electric available. 1st come 1st serve $20 night for single campsite. Very well maintained. Metal fire ring and concrete Picnic table at each site. Most sites are pretty level. We had a 25 ft travel trailer. The echo amphitheater is beautiful. Just a short walk with stairs to the site. Only 2 campers here including us.

Gorgeous views and free

Small campground next to U.S. Highway 84. There are 9 campsites with 3 small pull-throughs. I have seen large RVs in the day use area, not sure if this is tolerated.  No services.  Great cell signal for me (t-Mobile) The views in all directions are amazing.  Very close to Ghost Ranch.  Usually very quiet and after dark barely any car traffic on 84.

Very nice.

I came up from the south on a motorcycle. Strong wind out of the west. The rock formation blocked the wind then I saw the campground sign. Great place to stay. Drinking water, tables, and fantastic views.

Campground and pickwick area

Nice old forest service campground, dirt roads and pickwick tables. A older but clean heated rest room with hot and cold running water. Water at handicap camp site, but it is turned off now as weather is cool.
