Camp Mohican Outdoor Center — Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is home to the Mohican Outdoor Center, an established campground in Unity House, New Jersey, that functions more like a full outdoor hub than a simple overnight stop. Managed by the National Park Service, the site includes tent sites on either ground or wooden platforms, bunkhouses with private rooms and full kitchen facilities, and cabins available for solo rental or shared bunk stays. The Appalachian Trail runs directly through the property, making it a natural resupply and rest point for section hikers moving between the Delaware Water Gap and the New York state line.

On-site amenities are more extensive than most NPS campgrounds. A lodge houses bathrooms, hot showers, and a small store with food available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Catfish Pond allows swimming and kayak or canoe rentals, and the water draws anglers along with snapping turtles and other wildlife. Group sites include covered pavilions, fire rings, grills, and picnic tables, with a full bathroom within 100 yards. Reviewers consistently note clean facilities, and Richard M. found the bunkhouse "very clean, had full kitchen facilities, hot showers."

Nightly rates run from $5 to $75 depending on site type, and the property has WiFi and cell service. Mohican Walk-In Campsites sit less than a mile south for those wanting a more remote feel. Campers planning a broader itinerary can also browse tent camping near Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to compare nearby options. The range of accommodations and trail access makes the Mohican Outdoor Center a workable base for multi-day hiking trips or group outings.

Great lodging options and trails!

I've visited the MOC a bunch of times, and have taken training classes here also. There are campsites for tent camping, cabin stays where you can rent a whole cabin or rent a bunk in a cabin with others. There is a store as well as food options. It's a great place to visit whether you grab a meal, a bunk, or just take a hike. The Appalachian Trail crosses through here also.

Cabins, group sites, hike ins on the AT

We hosted group camping trips here for years. Excellent spot! The lodge has bathrooms and a small store. You can rent kayaks and canoes and swimming is allowed on Catfish Pond -- plenty of fish, snapping turtles, and other wildlife. If you're there in the summer, I'd recommend taking a kayak around the lake and filling it with wild blueberries. Lots of hiking options as well.

Tent sites are either on the ground have wooden platforms. Cabins come in various sizes.

It has a little bit of everything...

The Group Campsite was really big. It had 5-6 platforms, privys, big fire ring, a grill, a beatbox, a large pavilion w/picnic tables and a real full sized bathroom only 100 yards away. The Visitor Center is only 3/10 mile away and has wi-fi, bathrooms/showers and a shop with food that is open from 8am to 8pm. The AT runs right through the camp. I love this place!!!

Bunkhouse

I stayed at the Mohican Outdoor Center (MOC) in Nov while section hiking from the Del. Water Gap to the NY State Line. The MOC is about 10 miles from the Gap and it was my destination for the 1st day. The staff is friendly and the facilities were what I expected. I stayed in one of the bunkhouses and I had a private room with bunk beds. The privacy wasn't an issue because it was mid week and I was the only person staying at the camp. The bunkhouse was very clean, had full kitchen facilities, hot showers, and a common area with lots of reading material. The camp does have an institutional feel but I knew I was not staying at the Plaza Hotel. I would definitely stay there again if I return to the area.
