      Stage Stop Campground

      Love this campground!!

We stayed here twice our first night and last night of our two week road trip. The place is well maintained and peaceful. Decorated like an old western town. Laundry facilities are available. The dog park was the best our whole road trip. We have three dogs that range from 4.5 lbs to 45 lbs. they had room to play and they were safe. The staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

      Four Oaks RV Park

Goof Transit camping with great staff

Super helpful staff for late check-ins. It is a good RV campsite when you are on the move and need a place to stay near the the high way (a bit noisy with traffic) and traveling with a pet. They have a place for dogs to play.

      Big Red Barn RV Park

Very convenient, super clean and quiet

We overnighted here on the way to Hot Springs, AR.  Convenient to Interstate 49, but virtually no traffic noise and none while inside the van.  We arrived after the office had closed - there was a prominent note on the door as to which site to use.   Electrical hookup was fine - we did not use water or cable.  There were about a dozen other  campers - most appeared to be long termers.  The CG was VERY quiet - very peaceful.  They have an off-leash dog park area which our dogs loved and used it 3-4 times the nite we were there.  The bathrooms were toasty warm and VERY clean.  Lavatory hot water got warm quickly, plenty of soap and towels.  The office has various items for sale, from snacks to RV gear.  Would not hesitate to stay again - in fact, may do so next week on our return trip.

      Kimmys At Caplinger

      Best Family Campground in Missouri

Kimmy’s is amazing!  Always friendly and clean. Lots of activities for any outdoor adventures. Hiking kayaking swimming and lots of laughs come with Kimmy’s crew. They go out of their way to make your stay wonderful! If the pond on site is not big enough Stockton Lake is just minutes away or maybe you enjoy kayaking the Sac River is very close as well. Shuttle service is right up the road if needed. Keep your eyes peeled you may just find a message rock or two. We frequent Kimmy’s several times each summer and by far our absolute favorite campground in Missouri. And they are pet friendly too!

    Guide to Mindenmines

Prairie State Park Campground is situated on Missouri's tallest grass prairie, featuring rolling terrain between 800-950 feet elevation. Located near Mindenmines in southwestern Missouri, this area maintains native prairie vegetation including big bluestem and Indian grass. Temperatures range from below freezing in winter to humid 90°F summers, creating distinct camping conditions throughout the seasons.

    What to do

Prairie wildlife viewing: At Prairie State Park Campground, visitors can observe free-roaming bison herds in their natural habitat. "Prairie state park isn't very large but it is nice to see somewhere dedicated to preserving the native grassland that the Midwest used to be covered with. The main draw for me other than it being close to where I live is that you get to be around buffalo with out fences," notes Luke B.

Hiking multiple trails: The park offers 14 miles of trails ranging from 1.5-4.5 miles in length. "There is a nice backpacking camping spot out on the prairie," explains Michelle T., making it possible to extend your outdoor adventure beyond the main camping area.

Local museum exploration: Visit Big Brutus Museum to see an enormous coal mining shovel preserved as an industrial monument. "The whole family loved the self guided tour of Big Brutus. Clean and well maintained camps. Truly a marvel to see up close," shares Tracy N. The museum provides both educational exhibits and camping options.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers appreciate the generous spacing at Prairie State Park. "This campsite is not for those who want amenities. There are 4 SPACIOUS sites and they are what I would call primitive. No hookups/ no electricity/ no running water," reports Wendy M.

Wildlife sounds: The natural soundtrack of prairie wildlife adds to the camping experience. "Bison herds, coyote calls, birding, and wide open spaces make this a memorable place to visit. It's very basic, which we liked to give it a nice settlers on the prairie feel," explains Dan N.

Clean facilities: At Oak Point Campground, campers consistently mention the well-maintained grounds. "This place was easy, pretty and well appointed. Great site next to river, across from bath, laundry and showers. Quiet and easy access," writes Rhonda D.

    What you should know

Limited amenities: Prairie State Park offers truly primitive camping. "If you need water, supplies, shower or a flush toilet, skip this one. The tent sites are VERY primitive, but you drive up to your camp," explains Deborah C.

Wildlife precautions: Campers should prepare for encounters with local wildlife. "The bison roam free here, although the small campground area has fences and/or cow grates to keep them out," notes Hanna T. from Prairie State Park.

Terrain challenges: At Zans Creekside RV Park, camping near water comes with considerations. "Nice Shady spot overlooking the river. My spot was shaded by black walnut trees. With the sound of the river in the background. Totally relaxing," reports Carl E., though others mention "Some road noise from the bridge nearby."

Weather preparedness: The open prairie landscape creates weather exposure issues. "The center paved sites are more open and grassy and get more wind but also don't have as much shade. I think I stayed in site 4 and it was great for my solar panel," shares Hanna T.

    Tips for camping with families

Water recreation options: Lonesome Point Campground offers waterfront camping for families. "Great primitive spot near the front with no electric but water within walking distance. Remote and lovely," says Jeremy G.

Pet friendly options: When seeking pet friendly camping near Mindenmines, Missouri, several campgrounds accommodate four-legged family members. "We camp here quite often. I like that we can take our fur babies. It's quiet even if there are a lot of campers. People are polite and respectful," reports Bev about Lonesome Point Campground.

Nature center activities: Prairie State Park features educational opportunities. "The nature center is small but they have two bison, a coyote, and many other learning opportunities inside," explains Wendy M., providing rainy day backup activities.

    Tips from RVers

Full hookup options: Big Red Barn RV Park provides comprehensive amenities for RVers near Mindenmines. "Long wide sites that have grass, patios and picnic tables. Open year round!" notes Kim B.

Pet amenities: RV parks near Mindenmines offer specific pet-friendly features. "They have an off-leash dog park area which our dogs loved and used it 3-4 times the nite we were there," shares Gregg L. about Big Red Barn RV Park.

Group facilities: Several RV parks cater to traveling groups. "This park has level, pull-through shaded lots and a quiet location. Our group used the rally barn for meetings, and their fire pit for the evening, which were bonus features," explains Jan S.

Seasonal considerations: For year-round camping near Mindenmines, Missouri, prepare for seasonal weather shifts. "The bathrooms were toasty warm and VERY clean. Lavatory hot water got warm quickly, plenty of soap and towels," notes Gregg L. about winter comfort at RV facilities.
