As a child my family camped at Twin Rivers annually so it was really fun to go back in June. It is a popular spot for people who are there to float the Black River.
We were hiking the OT from Taum Sauk to Johnson Shut-ins so we opted for a camping cabin to keep it simple. We were delighted to find it had A/C! There are 4 small cabins with a double bunk, table and 2 chairs plus the A/C. There is as little porch: nice for sitting or gear stash. It was clean and simple. Bring your own bedding.
Outside there is a big water spigot, picnic table, fire ring, and grill. You have access to the "beach" on the crystal clear Black River. There is a camp store with a good stock of what you forgot plus t-shirts etc.
I love Twin River's Landing and we hope to use that cabin again.

I had no idea what to expect, just following brown signs in the Ozarks. The state park has a very interesting, well done visitor center to learn about the surrounding areas geological history. Arriving at the shut-ins by walking down a wooden boardwalk you get glimpses of crystal clear rushing water, then it opens up to points to get in. It's beautiful and impressive. The water has carved out tide pools and waterslides, canals and whirlpools. There are several deep collections if you want to take a break and float around. There are trout and blue gill, armadillo and elk in the area. Down the road a bit there is also Elephant Rock State Park and campground with walk in primitive camping that each have raised decks, picnic tables and fire pits. Also available RVs and cabin rentals. I personally walked around and collected quartz and mushrooms. Very pleasant.

We booked a last minute trip here and had a cabin along with a RV site. The cabins were great. Campsites were nice too. There was a large pool kind of hidden in the woods. The owners were great and easy to work with. The Gasconade River is right there, but up too high while we were there.

Have been coming to Montauk for nearly 30 years. Besides the excellent trout fishing, there are hiking trails, playgrounds for kids, a lodge with well-stocked store, tours of the fishery and old mill can be arranged, a naturalist’s cabin and an number of events are held there during the camping season. Four campground loops along the Current River, plus cabins and a motel at the lodge. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekends, but a number of tent and RV sites are non-reservable. Fall is our favorite time of year and includes annual Rose Holland Trout Derby.
GuideSo in the winter we can't stay away from the state parks and Johnson Shut Ins is a perfect base to explore the area when it is too cold to tent camp with kids. We got a camper cabin in the first weekend of December and brought our two dogs. The campground is mostly empty this time of year. The showerhouses are clean with hot water and there is a friendly host. We bought firewood at a gas station in Arcadia before we got to the park. Of course it was a little wet but burned OK. I wasn't sure if wood was available in the park because of limited facility openings during the offseason. We walked the Shut Ins trail one morning and it was misty and beautiful. No dogs allowed there though. There is some cell service on the cabin loop. My only complaint is other campers, who let their dogs run loose. Obviously not the park's fault. The cabins are clean and very nice with rockers on the front porch. We visited Elephant Rocks also, where dogs are allowed.
GuideI had a pretty awful expereince with Apple Jacks 21 this weekend. I wanted to share to maybe help others get more clarification when booking. I had a lot of upset and disappointed friends that drove a long way for this. 12 people total.
I know this resort is new and just coming along. I understand that. But there are quite a few issues that concern me and should have been addressed before allowing bookings.
The owner did not reply when asking for confirmation via Facebook messenger, which is how I booked but she did look at and ignore my message. We decided to go anyway. After all, we had 12 people in our group and I can't let people down. She did not want payment before our arrival.
When we got here we had to go search for someone to figure out where to go, which is precisely why I tried to confirm the day before. Took 3 phone calls before we got the owner to answer and we were told to go down to the bar and find some man. The man had no idea what we were to do or where we should go. Again we waited while he called her several times. We were exhausted from a long trip and just wanted to get setup and rest.
After finally getting settled the owner drove by and said she would come back after supper (for payment I'm guessing) but never did. We still hadn't paid by night 2. And then night 3.
When asking where our friends would park their RV it was again an hour long process to figure it out. We also figured we should attempt to find out which cabin is for our other group since it's so hard to find anyone here that knows what is going on.
Our friend finally got in the RV site the electric hookup had an open ground. The wire was literally sticking out of the post box for my kids or anyone to get seriously injured. They also just wanted to get settled and rest so we ran an extension cord from our post since no one is to be found and no one answers their phone, again. Finally the worker man called back and came and said he couldn't help us due to a warranty on the work but gave us an extension cord.
The cabin, no one knew what was going on either. We finally found out later on and went and checked it out. There were other people's items inside. But noticed maybe it was 2 parts because there was a door in the middle. So they carried their stuff to the other side where it was pretty filthy. Hair in the sinks from someone shaving, a sink full of dishes, filthy refrigerator, filthy bathrooms etc. Then the worker man comes flying in aggressively asking who is in cabin 1 and I said I had no idea what cabin is which so he showed us we weren't supposed to walk through cabin 1 (again, no signs or numbers). Nothing is marked here. Then they have no key to lock up the door to the outside or the door to the "grandsons" that apparently live on the other side (cabin 1??). The "grandsons" can just come into my friends cabin anytime they want as there is no lock between the cabins. We were also told that the cabin was "right across the street" from our RV sites. It's was a 1 mile drive because they removed the driveway between them (didn't inform us of this). Our friends in the cabin have mobility issues and that is the reason being close was so important. It was a truck ride away. Definitely
Again, I tried to drive up to River's Edge to pay for my site (that's what the worker man said to do) and no one knows the pricing. She wanted me to leave my credit card there and she would charge me later. Not happening. I left all my info, she was supposed to get a total and call me to pay by phone but that never happened either.
On Sunday, the owne came flying in after seeing my comments to someone else having issues about this place being a disaster and was nice at first until I wanted to tell her my issues. She snapped and didn't want to hear any of it. She also asked me for a pen to write down my credit card number. It's 2021 and they write down credit card numbers? The owner stated that I had booked 3 cabins and she had to turn people away Friday night and they sat empty because of me. That is false. I read a reveiw that she turned them away due to plumbing problems. I have screenshots of booking 1 cabin and 1 RV site and later adding another rv site. I also have screenshots of asking for confirmation of 1 cabin and 2 rv sites. Finally in such a mean but sweet way she told me this wasn't the place for me and we weren't welcome back so we packed up and left.
After we left and got on the road someone else called me about payment. I told her I already paid the owner. She said the owner told her to call me about payment. Apparently, this woman texted me a bill but I didn't get it until we left due to phone service issues. The bill didn't even show the total. But the woman was kind and understanding that I didn't get her text. Then 2 hours later my card was charged $653 when it was supposed to be $580. What a disaster.
All in all I think I lost 6 hours just trying to figure out what is going on here.
This was supposed to be my birthday trip. What a fiasco.
Luckily, my credi card company refunded me since none of the amenities she advertised were there.

TravelerThe campground was big and comfortable. We wanted to stay close to the open shower houses since only those in loop 3 and the cabins were open until April. Stayed in loop 2, which was still close enough to cabins shower house. Our site was right at the beginning of the loop and was very level and offered privacy since no one was to our right. No problem with cell service for 5G, we were able to stream music and apps. Anything under 5G was in SOS mode. No antennae TV available, either. The shut-ins were right down the road or you could walk or bike the paved path all the way there. The Scour Trail was also close and really neat to see.

The people of Missouri gave a wonderful gift to the people of the United States. A gift I did not know about or had never heard of till we made the decision to camp in Missouri.
Big Springs was Missouri's first state park. The CCC did a lot of construction on the park and so much of the buildings are still there. In much need of repair and I do hope the federal government will restore. Big Spring is off of Missouri Highway 160. Turn onto State Route 103 to Big Spring. The spring has a wheelchair accessible pathway that will lead right to the spring.
The campground is large and open. Tent sites along with with RV sites but the RV sites are small and very close together. Some RV sites had electric but no water or sewer. There is a dump site. During the summer I think I would get a reservation for the RV sites if you need electric. If you have the ability to generate your own electric stay in the open tent site area. The tent site area is large and open to the sun. Big Springs has flush toilets and hot showers.
There are picnic areas with tables and grills scattered throughout the park along with two group shelters.
The Ranger programs are well worth checking out. Take advantage.
The Current River makes a wonderful backdrop for nature lovers. You have the options of hiking, biking, fishing, camping, floating, kayaking, and all sorts of boating with a ramp in the park.

My husband and I went here for one of our first camping trips in our travel trailer. We really enjoyed our time here! They have a few different clusters of camp sites and cabins as well. We did a 5 mile float which was amazing! They bus you up river and then you end up back at the campground. We stayed in the campground closer to the river. There are quite a few tent spots as well, so we felt a little crowded just based off where our site was. Would definitely recommend sites 106-108. Some friends of ours stayed there and had tons of space!
Highly recommend going to the "Upper Beach"! It's up by the cabins/cottages and you definitely need to drive there. Get there early in the morning to set up your chairs in the river to get a good spot. They also have trail riding and a zip line, but trail riding was all booked when we called to reserve.

TravelerWell kept state park and trout hatchery. Recently upgraded electric in campground 4, which was nice. Each campground has its own host, which is great when you need it. I hung out with friends in a basic group site, too, and there was plenty of room and a nice setting (site 116). Food at the lodge was better than anticipated and friends in the cabins had no major complaints either.
ScoutThis spot is mostly focused on trout fishing. The campground is large, 3 loops, but spots are close together and can be noisy during prime fishing season. Nice camp store, restaurant, ice cream parlor. They also have motel style lodging and cabin available. Nice, somewhat challenging due to hills, hiking trails. Trout hatchery available to walk through and feed the fish. I'm a repeat visitor for fishing purposes. Camping spots available along stream.
RangerThere is some hiking but everyone was fishing, canoeing, or swimming. Good big state park campground. We stayed at the larger family camping area. Full RV options. You can also rent modern hotel suite-style cabins and eat in the dining hall so you don’t have to cook. Nice general store too. We didn’t take advantage of it, but there were a lot of activities aimed at kids. Great mix of modern campground and nature experience.
ScoutCampgrounds are nice, cabins are cozy, the campground rangers stop to inform us of a show or play at the main stage by the play ground in the evening. We’ve been to Johnson’s Shut-ins 3 years in a row & love our visit every time. The water is warm & clear, rocks are fun for climbing on in the summer, just be sure to wear water shoes because they’re slippery. Beautiful scenery for the Midwest!

This great little campground on the Gasconade River was a delight. I had a camper and the full hook up was awesome. They have a cabin, a little retro camper and a large guest house for those who don’t have a camper or want to tent.
Firewood brought to your campsite upon request. Shower house. Open spaces. Katie and her crew are awesome.
Float this great river and end up at your camp. Beautiful river that does not have any jet boats. Make this one of the places to visit for sure.
TravelerThe campgrounds and cabins can be a bit difficult to book, if visiting on a Friday or Saturday, but the park is worth it. Cold spring fed, stocked stream, which is the start of the current river. If you're trout fishing, you'll need your MO state fishing license, as well as a daily trout tag within the park. Below the park at Tan Vat landing, you'll need your MO state fishing license and a trout license. Areas on the Current River, directly below Montauk are "Blue Ribbon" areas, so be sure to read the restrictions on trout fishing.

Yay: large private wooded campsites, modern and clean facilities. They also have cabins and a hotel. Couldn’t believe they had a restaurant on site but we only got ice cream there since we had a cooler of food to use up. Kids loved making crafts and even learning some history with the rangers (all free). We rented large canoes on site for a very modest fee.
Nay: very bustling, but not overly noisy or crowded.
Surprise: loved exploring the area by boat, we saw tons of water fowl.
TravelerThis is a great state park. Sites are level and have cement pads with full hookups. Not much shade now but they have planted trees between sites. Bathrooms are clean. There is also a lodge with store and restaurant just down the street. There are cabins there that can be rented also. And the real treat is the wild horses. Came right up to our site - but please do not feed or try to pet. The rangers will have to move them if they get to used to people.
Also local river rafting companies will pick you up at your site
TravelerThis campground is a must visit. Obviously the main attraction is the amazing and magical spring. Flowing 226 million gallons a day! Campground is beautifully manicured and has spacious sites and many options. It's a self serve campground so pay at the front. The hot water in the showers was out but still giving it 5 stars because this place is just great. The cabins are super cute cottages that are being remodeled right now, and I can't wait! The trails are well kept and moderately challenging. I highly recommend camping here dont forget to bring in your own firewood.
GuideEstablished in 2016 the rv sites do not have shade, but are all concrete with great amenities. There is a beautiful lodge on the property and cabins/townhomes/hotel rooms are availble, too. A past governor had this built basically as a family rememberance and is not your typical state park.
The area is know for floating and there is live water in the park for playing. Our lab loved it!
Wild horses are in the area and three stay in this camping area. You will likely see them(or maybe almost bump in to them) when you open your door.
