Cuivre River State Park is one of the state’s largest and most rugged parks! Cuivre River State Park lends a wilder, Ozarkian flavor to the otherwise predominately agricultural landscape of northern Missouri. Although not far from St. Louis, the park is a nature lover’s paradise. It is an outdoor delight to stroll through the park in the spring when flowering dogwood is in bloom or in the fall when the trees are ablaze with autumn colors. The park is perfect whether you want to enjoy an afternoon visit or spend a few days. Both primitive and modern campsites are available, and Lake Lincoln offers swimming, boating and fishing. The park’s wild and natural areas provide hiking, backpacking, photography and wildlife observation activities. There is also an equestrian trail with a campground for overnight stays. Cuivre River State Park offers reservable basic, electric and sewer/electric/water campsites, an equestrian campground, three organized group camps and a special-use camping area. Try one of the park's family campsites for a little extra space or a platform tent site for a unique camping experience.

Pere Marquette State Park is a nature lover's paradise. In addition to enjoying the spectacular views of the Illinois River and its backwaters from several points atop the bluffs, visitors can take advantage of a variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and boating.

Pere Marquette's Visitor Center has a 3-D map of the park and wealth of other displays and exhibits concerning the Illinois River, wildlife habitat, local history and geology.

Fall color drives are popular along the wooded ravines and riverside roadways at and near Pere Marquette. In January and February, the park is a hot-spot for bald eagle watching. For many years, the park has hosted tours of the river bluffs and woods for visitors to get an up-close look at wintering bald eagles in the hundreds along the Mississippi River and lower Illinois River near the park.

Campers will find plenty to like at Pere Marquette, from camp sites and cabins to the popular Youth Tent Camp and three group camps. Campground reservations can be made at ExploreMoreIL.

The beautiful Pere Marquette Lodge and Conference Center is an ideal place to stay for a weekend or weekday getaway. Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the lodge has been expanded and updated in recent years. The mammoth stone fireplace in the lobby soars to a roof height of 50 feet, and is said to weigh 700 tons. There are 50 spacious guest rooms and 22 stone guest cabin rooms.

While groups of 25 or more are welcome and encouraged to use the park's facilities, they are required to register in advance with the site office to avoid crowding or scheduling conflicts. At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. Pets must be kept on leashes at all times. Actions by nature can result in closed roads and other facilities. Please call ahead to the park office before you make your trip. We hope you enjoy your stay. Remember, take only memories, leave only footprints.

Laying at the foothills of the gently rolling Ozark mountain range, Greensfelder Park features lovely shaded trails and spectacular views, horse boarding, equestrian and group camping, hayrides, trails, nature learning center, picnic sites and shelters, playground and trim orienteering course.

The area was donated to St. Louis County in 1963 by the Trustees of the St. Louis Regional Planning and Construction Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1939 by A. P. Greensfelder, civic leader.

This is primarily an equestrian campground. There is a tie horse stall located behind the restroom that is lighted and will hold approximately 30 horses. A round pen is also available for horse turn out. Two trail heads are at opposite ends of the campground, with connectors to additional trails.

    Nice but expensive

This is a city run camp with like-new amenities. Unfortunately it sits on the wrong side of a levee with not much atmosphere. The water is part of the Missouri river flood control. An overnight site in my opinion.

    Quiet and Relaxing

We really enjoyed this campground. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Check-in was very easy and we were met at the gate. They drove us over to our spot and brought us over a firepit. The electrical box was setup correctly and everything worked as expected. Water hookup was very close as well and water pressure was strong. As an FYI, we did have to use a regulator to reduce the water pressure.

We were able to stay right along the river. We had arrived a little too early in the camping season and we happened to pick days where Missouri had a cold front (previous weekend was warm). Even with the cold weather, we were able to really enjoy the trip and get our RV ready for the upcoming season.

The camping spots are basically just spots in a big parking lot layout. It is fully paved, but during busy season, you would be very close to other rigs. The park is beautiful and a very short walk over to the cave and ziplines. There is easy access to the river and you are able to easily put in your kayak or small boat. Restroom, showers and trash were a short walk as well.

We will return to this site.

Love the camp loop with room to play

We visited here June 2012. It was a beautiful park with full hook-up sites. The camping loop was a bit different but we loved how it was open in the middle for all the kids to play together. We had a nice campfire at night while the kids played manhunt in the open field area between the sites.
This park has hiking, biking and boating although we didn't do any of that because our purpose there was to visit the St. Louis Arch ( about 1 hour away). This was the closest State Park we could find on that trip.

Clean, nice size lots, one of our favorites close to us!

We have been backpack camping here twice and RV camping once. It’s close to our house and there’s always something new to do each time. The bathrooms are well maintained and the campsites are fairly large and provide lots of shade. They have a large lake to swim in and you can kayak as well! Their trails are well marked and a pretty walk. This State Park is one of our favorites to visit.

    Close to the city

We enjoy this park because it’s a pretty close drive allowing us to stay one night. We come here to have a fire at night and go kayaking the next day. Perfect little getaway.

    Cuivre River State Park Campground

    Natural, well maintained

Nice campground with tent areas and RV area well separated. Fire rings with attached rebar grills on a bricked square. Picnic table and lantern post. Small playground near the check in station/camp store. The store is small but will have what you need. The showers were adequate with the requisite daddy long legs. There were a fair amount of ticks so spray your gear with permethrin. Many of the sites were pretty small - we had a hard time seeing where a tent would fit, usually the answer was on the side of the road. Also, many were close together with little privacy. We stayed on site 53. Which I definitely recommend. Plenty of space for the tent (on a bit of a slant with tree roots, but doable, especially with air mattresses), great privacy on one side, decentprivacy on the other, and a lovely view of the woods at the back.

    Beautiful small campground

This campground has a lake you can rent kayaks for. They have a small store at the check in booth. It also has an accessible fishing dock that is covered. The sites for full hook ups are separate from the other sites.

    One of our Favorites

This park has plenty of trails for all lengths to keep you busy and the camping is spaced out nicely so you are not right on top of each-other. Not alot of people know about this park which is nice. they have a nice size lake with swimming area and rental. This is personally our go to because it is so close to home for us and we never have to worry about it being too crowded. From my understanding the electric sites do fill up so you may want to call for reservations.

Awesome place to hike and beautiful views of the lake and creeks!

Great place for a leisurely hike around the lake. They also have reservable spots in their campground, which is a quick drive from the beach area, and you are also able to rent kayaks and canoes! Great secret swimming hole worth the walk down the creek bed!

    Very clean, level camp grounds

This time we went with our Cub Scout group and stayed at one of the family sites. There was a water main breaks so the outhouse was our only option for restrooms and no clean water. The overall grounds were great and liked the ability to walk down to the lake from the the campsites.

    Great campground and general park

The campground has a lot of very nice campsites. Some are close enough to be near others, which is nice when you are camping with friends. There are also sights that are a bit more sectioned off from neighboring campsites. There are multiple trails, but my favorite is the one around the lake. Be prepared for it to take a little longer than map states if you stop to look at things and take pictures. Trails are well marked. There is a beach to swim and play in the lake. They rent kayaks if you want to get out and explore the lake.

    Beautiful State Park

A state park with FULL Hook-ups!  Cuivre River state park is a nice hidden treasure for a weekend getaway from St. Louis.  Great trails to hike and a sandy beach to dip in for a quick swim.  Did I mention full hook-ups in a state park.  It would make a great return place for a weekend in the fall to see the colors as the trees turn.  I would highly suggest getting a screen house to enjoy the evenings outdoors to keep the gnats and mosquitos away.

    Cuivre River State Park Campground

    Not my favorite campsites

We stayed in the full hookups. It’s a very uneven gravel pad to start with. The campfire sits right next to the camper and the sites are very close together. So the sites are far from glamorous. But there were two close by trails that were very nice. They had offered a class about Mo snakes and a class on how to build fire with flint that our kids really enjoyed. We didn’t make it to the beach because we enjoyed the creek so much. The kids loved using the net to catch small fish and crawdads, throwing rocks and playing in the water. It was fun to explore. So 3 stars cause the campsites were not great but lots of fun to be had on the actual campgrounds! We will still be going back.

Nice park but loud in busy season

The park itself is very nice, we enjoyed swimming and kayaking in such a beautiful area. The campsite seems hit or miss. We went in the fall when it was quite busy. Our campsite didn't have a good flat spot for the tent so we slept on a slope and kept sliding down while sleeping. Our neighbors were a large group of adults and children. The adults were around the fire making a lot of noise until well into the night, at least past 1 am. I don't begrudge them having fun and catching up, but it lessened our enjoyment of the campground.
