    Schreier's On Shetek Campground

    Great Park, Mostly Seasonals

We visited here before the fishing opener, so while most of the spots were occupied by long term RVs, very few people around. We were told from fishing opener until the fall the place is busy. Family owned and operated park. Amenities include playground, fish cleaning house, paddleboat and canoe rentals, hiking trails.

RV park and some tent sites located next to the public pool and softball field. Amenities are good. WiFi is shared with the public pool so it's very slow.

Hiking, biking, canoeing, disc golf, playground..... All sorts of fun stuff. Clean park and facilities. Must full hookup sites are occupied by seasonal renters. The park appears full but while we were here I saw 3 other people. The daily sites are 30 and 50 electric only. There is a fresh water fill spigot on the bathroom closest to the daily sites.. There's also a dump station onsite. 2.5 miles from Walnut Grove if you're visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. T-Mobile 40mbps download and Verizon 5mbps download.

Lac qui Parle Upper Campground — Lac qui Parle State Park

    Spacious and tranquil

Lots of space between sites. There are not many trees so not much shade. Sites are gravel and relatively level, not much leveling required. Variety of sites, from group camping, primitive (no hookups), electric only, full hookups (water, electric, sewer) as well as cabins and tent only areas. Limited hiking trails connected to campground. Surrounded on two sides by farm fields and Lac Qui Parle Lake on another. There are two loops in the campground. One loop has view of the lake. Boat/canoe launch is in lower campground about 10 minutes from Upper Campground. Recycling and garbage dumpsters on site. Dump station near entrance. Verizon cell signal is poor. Pit toilets available. Bathhouse is centrally located, includes private showers. No laundry on site. Nearby attractions in Montevideo include Talking Waters Brewery/taproom, Jake’s pizza and Java River cafe (with outdoor seating, dog friendly).

    Nice!

Campground was nearly full of local campers but the kids played great together. Decent pool & showers, fun activities like bags tournaments and a potluck. We had a pull thru spot, leveling was tricky. They let us put up a tent for no additional cost. I think it was around $25 night for full hookup. Was a fun campground & the national pipestone monument area is right across the road. Really neat interactive place to visit.

Sunrise Campground — Lake Shetek State Park

    Fantastic campground !

This is the best campground I have been to! We have about a 30 foot Ice Castle so we stayed in the Sunrise campground with full hookups. We also did a week day camp so it wasn’t too crowded. When we arrived there was a ranger walking around and helped us back into our site. There are a lot of “extra” poles to maneuver around. Crews were out emptying fire pits, mowing and spraying for mosquitoes on Monday. I don’t think any of us got bit by a mosquito our whole trip, however we did see them. There were biting black flies that got us near the lake. All of the trails were EXTREMELY well taken care of. The actual swimming beach gets flooded out easily, however there are secret beaches all over! The lake is only about 10 feet deep at its deepest point so lots of kayaking and canoeing. On the north end of the lake there is more boating and water sport activity so kayaking on that side can get a bit choppy. Shower house is very nice with good water pressure. Good cell phone coverage (Verizon) Lots of deer, raccoons and turtles roam through campground often.

    Good visit

This campground has a good bit of seasonal workers with RV’s and you can’t beat the price. Since we can camp we don’t have to have power and water so Brian let us park and shower for 10.00. Rv’s pay 22.00 for hookup and power a night.

    Nice spots by the lake

Electric and water hookups. Spots are very close together. Luckily several people cancelled for the weekend and we were allowed to pick any spot. Shower houses are nice. I'd stay again, although a lady in town said the hole in the mound county park nearby is much quieter. The ice cream man made a loop through the grounds.

    This place was nice

I enjoyed my stay here--except for my neighbors. It was beautiful, filled with trees, along a river, great bathrooms and private showers. Very clean and well maintained. I just stayed one night in my van in an electric site, but they also have tent sites with no hookups. I would recommend this place.

    A Fine Park

Stayed for 3 nights. Very shady, but does not have sewer or water hookup. 30 amp electric service. Grounds are well maintained and the restroom and shower facilities are very up to date but heavily used. Sites are closer than I like. Park has nice trails and bluffs. Bison are within the park but did not see. Rangers and staff very friendly. Would be great for overnighter. The most irritating thing about the park were the next door neighbors who let their five dogs use our campsite as an area for deification. People with pets need to be respectful of others. I have come to the conclusion that all pets should be banned from public lands.

    Lime Lake Co Park

    Small and tucked away

Tucked back along a winding road past a cemetery, you'll find this cozy site, a well-groomed park with a handful of drive-in sites, picnic pavilions, and lots of open spaces. There's also an absolutely gorgeous lake and a small footbridge over an artificial dam/waterfall.

Lime Lake County Park's drive-in sites feature picnic tables and fire pits, along with electric hook up sites. There's no camp host, so after you drop in your $17/night fee in the strong box, you can settle in for the day, or perhaps launch your boat from the provided dock and ramp.

Leashed pets are allowed, and I highly recommend the walk to the back, over the footbridge where you can listen to the relaxing sound of the lake draining into a creek.

The toilet area features one stall, but it does have plumbing.

    Lagoon Park

    Beautiful little town campsite

Stayed one night, tent only, but water and electric hookups present, along with firepit and picnic table. Reservations have to be made in person, but can be done after hours, picked up at the Police Station box, $20. There's less than 10 sites, one half against the highway, the other backed to the disc golf course and swingset. Sites are a bit close, but on an empty weekend we were spaced well. On a beautiful Saturday it was quiet, and empty of visitors by night, and the sites cleared out early Sunday. Two bathrooms, with a shower each, seem well kept up, but are a bit dated. There was no firewood available, but Casey's nearby had some available. There was also a lot of fallen wood and branches in the area. Would definitely go again if in the area.

    Plum Creek Park Campground

    Hidden Gem

This is the definition of a hidden gem. The park is well maintained with friendly staff. There are nice trails around the lake and more in the lower unit. There is disc golf and kayak rentals and a small store where you can buy ice, firewood, souvenirs, and an ice cream treat.

For extra peace and quiet, get the tent only (non electric) sites across the lake! There are a variety of sites if you want to “rough it” or not. Bathrooms are clean.

You can tell the workers here care about the park and your experience. I found 0 trash on the trails, and I usually come out with a handful.

It fills up on weekends with “seasonals” but all the sites have trees and nice shade that gives you a sense of privacy. Theres a tent site close to the playground and bathrooms perfect if you have kids.

I decided to boondock in the general parking lot, couldn’t see paying $40+ for one night of hookups. No showers, bathrooms etc. so not for me. I want the campground fee to be free or really cheap if I come to a casino. We like the casino and have been coming here for years.

Oak Woods Campground — Lake Shetek State Park

    Lovely Park

We spent three nights at the Oak Woods campground at Lake Shetek State Park in May 2022. The six non-electric campsites are along one edge of the campground, across the road from the park’s four camper cabins. All of the campsites are large and open and grassy. They lack privacy but have good spacing, tall trees, and lake views. One of the two bathroom-and-shower buildings is nearby. We were there in early May and were the only tent campers in the park at that time.

The park is lovely. We saw and heard many birds including songbirds, woodpeckers, geese, turkeys, pelicans, turkey vultures, and a nesting swan. We saw deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and a mink. We heard coyotes the first night. There are some nice hiking trails. We especially enjoyed the Loon Island loop, which is accessed by a causeway across the lake. There is an observation deck with a viewing telescope at Eastlick Marsh, which is where we saw the nesting swan and a beaver dam. In season there are recreational rentals (canoes, kayaks, etc.), but we were a little too early for them to be available.

    Blue Mounds State Park Campground

    No water and biting flies

This campground is still charging $17 for a camp site, $7 transaction fee and $7/day entrance fee despite the fact they have no running water. The toilets still flush. In the morning our car filled up with flies that bit us for hours before we were able to eliminate all of them. It is a 5 mile drive back to Luverne if you need supplies, and I was unable to locate a grocery store.

Two good things; they have a Free Little Library and at night the lawn was covered with fireflies

The campground was so miserable that the campground host had abandoned their trailer and was never present. We did have several locals drive through the campground to spy on us, presumably to see who was stupid enough to camp there. You are entirely responsible for knowing what site you reserved because there was no attempt to label reserves sites.

There is no privacy between sites. This is just a big lawn with driveways, picnic tables and fire pits. The landscaping is nicely done with blackberries popping out of some hedges and providing eye-level interest at the base of trees.

This park features great sites, trails, a swimming beach, and playground equipment. There are seasonal spots and overnight/on-the-fly spots. The spots were very spacious and the park staff was very friendly. WiFi is a bit on the slow size and is paid for extra but better than nothing!

Beautiful views from the Upper Campground

We had a lovely weekend overlooking Lac Qui Parle from our campsite. The lack of mature trees on the upper campground bluffs is a plus. A gentle breeze keeps the bugs down and allows for nice views. We have a 26’ travel trailer and got 2 bars of T-Mobile 5G service.
