Plum Creek Park Campground

Electric hookups and a county-managed setting make Plum Creek Park Campground a practical base camp option in Walnut Grove. The park sits near both creek and lake water features, though campers should expect rougher access roads leading to the property.

Most full hookup sites accommodate seasonal renters, while daily visitors typically find 30 and 50 amp electric-only spots available. Sites include mature trees that provide shade and visual separation between camping areas. The park maintains clean restroom facilities with showers, and a dump station serves RV users. "Clean park and facilities," notes Scott K.. Fresh water fill access is available at the bathroom building nearest the daily sites.

Recreation options include hiking and biking trails around the lake, disc golf, kayak rentals, and a swimming beach. A playground serves families with children, while tent-only sites across the lake offer non-electric camping for those preferring fewer amenities. The park operates a small store selling ice, firewood, and basic supplies. Weekend periods see higher occupancy with seasonal campers, though the treed sites maintain privacy between spots.

Campers seeking a more remote experience might consider Swift Lake Park for a different setting.

Hidden Gem

This is the definition of a hidden gem. The park is well maintained with friendly staff. There are nice trails around the lake and more in the lower unit. There is disc golf and kayak rentals and a small store where you can buy ice, firewood, souvenirs, and an ice cream treat.

For extra peace and quiet, get the tent only (non electric) sites across the lake! There are a variety of sites if you want to “rough it” or not. Bathrooms are clean.

You can tell the workers here care about the park and your experience. I found 0 trash on the trails, and I usually come out with a handful.

It fills up on weekends with “seasonals” but all the sites have trees and nice shade that gives you a sense of privacy. Theres a tent site close to the playground and bathrooms perfect if you have kids.

Excellent Campground for Kids

This park features great sites, trails, a swimming beach, and playground equipment. There are seasonal spots and overnight/on-the-fly spots. The spots were very spacious and the park staff was very friendly. WiFi is a bit on the slow size and is paid for extra but better than nothing!

Hiking, biking, canoeing, disc golf, playground..... All sorts of fun stuff. Clean park and facilities. Must full hookup sites are occupied by seasonal renters. The park appears full but while we were here I saw 3 other people. The daily sites are 30 and 50 electric only. There is a fresh water fill spigot on the bathroom closest to the daily sites.. There's also a dump station onsite. 2.5 miles from Walnut Grove if you're visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. T-Mobile 40mbps download and Verizon 5mbps download.

Nice, clean park

Nice and clean place, large sites, nice beach. This year there was more goose poop on the beach than last time we were there and the beach had a lot of big ground wasps.
