Starlight Campground is a quiet RV park in a peaceful setting in “Up North” Michigan. Formerly known as Whispering Pines RV Resort, the campground has been reborn with new ownership in 2020 and a new name for the 2021 season that reflects our commitment to create a camping destination where life is simpler, easier, and where families can learn to reconnect and create lasting memories.

Starlight Campground is a family friendly campground nestled amidst mature pine trees, with cozy campsites, full facilities, a beautiful hiking trail, both vintage and contemporary trailer rentals, impeccably clean facilities, incredible sunsets, and star-filled night skies. It is those dark skies that have inspired our name, carried over into our Starry Nights Weekend during the annual Perseids meteor shower in August, just one of a season full of themed weekends filled with carefully planned activities.

We also strive to provide our guests with a level of hospitality and service that will exceed their expectations. We are home of the “Welcome Wood”, where you will find three pieces of firewood already in your campfire ring as our way of saying “Thank you” for being our guest. We will even deliver wood, ice, and store items directly to your site. Think of it as room service in the great outdoors!

    Nice Campground

We camped in a 40’ motor coach for a week. Site is gravel and dirt. It is a pull through site that required us to do quite a bit of leveling. The hookups are rather far away so we needed extensions. Our site required us to pull through in such a way that the hookups were on the opposite side of our coach. They only have 15 full hookup sites and none were available for our time frame. They have several long term tenants. Roads are narrow but most sites are ample. They have a pump out service twice a week for $10 each time. Bathrooms, showers and laundry available and are clean and nice. Staff is kind, helpful and knowledgeable. Pool is heated. Wifi is through a third party and very inexpensive at $2 a day. Very family friendly with lots of children. Campground is clean and well maintained.

    Very well kept KOA

While it was pricey at $65 night, we had a very spacious full hookup site within easy walking distance of pool. Shower house was very nice and modern, with 4 shower stalls. Full coin laundry was helpful too! They had kids activities over the 4thof July weekend, and our kid loved it. The KOA is about a 5 min drive to Otsego Lake and the state park, where there's a nice beach and easy lake access. There's also a newly paved bike trail right by the lake for you to log some miles on. Nearby towns of Gaylord and Boyne provided us with plenty to do, and only a couple hours to get to Sleeping Bear sand dunes. We thought this place was worth the expense- big, flat, level sites with fire pit and full hook up. Nice pine trees and plenty of space for kids to play. Did not like the additional fee for kid to get wrist band for jump pillow and mini gold, but did it anyways.

    Not fancy, but nice

Really nice little campground. Not fancy, but clean and well kept. Pool and petting zoo for the kids. Small store with ice, few necessities and ice cream. Pond in the back on the small river for fishing. Quite a few seasonal campers. Anywhere from rustic to full hook up. Pet friendly. All gravel/dirt/grass sites. Most have trees. Fire pits quite small. Bathrooms very nice and updated.

    Our favorite place!

We spend several weekends at this campground and love it. On holiday weekends we camp further away from the boat launch, as it gets extremely busy! Try to get a full hook up site if you can.....no line to dump on your way out!

    Vista Green RV Resort

    Large, beautiful campground

Our site was $65.63 a night. (This was the average after receiving one night free for staying a week).

We were in Site# 4A (premium site). We had Full hook- up with a blacktop pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with limited trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table. There was not a fire ring since only propane fires are allowed.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are many local channels.

There is an adult pub-style game room with poker tables, a large tv, a table shuffle board, air hockey game, foosball table, and board games. There is a community catering kitchen located in their activities center.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster. This can be a long distance for some.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent golf carts. It is beneficial to have a golf cart to get around since it is a large campground. We have our own e-bikes which helped.

They do have a large heated Swimming pool and an adults only hot tub. There is a fitness center.

They have quite a few ponds throughout the campground.

There is not a Playground. They offer pickleball courts.

There is not a general store nor snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are paved and good for riding bikes.

This is solely an RV park. They do not have any cabins to rent or any tent areas.

The showers are located in the activity center. These are typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. They allow you to use cash or an app. It is approximately $2.25 to wash and $2 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Bugs/gnats were a small issue and bug spray was needed.

There is supposedly a mowed trail to hike off of the campground (about 3 miles) but I was unable to locate it.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are the shops (Front Street) & water activities in Traverse City, the local wineries/vineyards, and the DNR Outdoor Shooting range (5 miles away & free to the public). We ate at Yankee Boy where all of the locals hangout. Excellent food (no alcohol served).

    Old Growth Forest

Love this campground for a good weekend stay. Small campground but there’s some nice wooded sites and some more open sites. Looks like there’s some full hook ups. A few trails walking distance from the campground.

The old growth trail is beautiful and really well maintained. The trees are crazy TALL. There’s a ton of history on the logging industry of Michigan. Also there’s a wee church in the middle of the woods which is pretty cool.

Our site in particular had a nice hill behind it with a trail where you could get a cool view of the campsite. Also a foot trail to the dumpsters / dump station.

    Nice little RV park

It was the prefect RV park. The staff is very accommodating and the amenities are amazing. You can bring a tent if you like, but you will hear the gentle hum of RV AC units all night (I thought it was generators, but the staff informed me generators are not permitted). The sites are a little cramped, but part of the fun of camping in a campground like this one is meeting the neighbors. Pretty nice RV park in the middle of Michigan.

South Higgins Lake State Park Campground

Large State Park on a beautiful inland lake.

This is one of our families favorite places to camp. Higgins lake is beautiful. The water is less than waist deep for about 100 yards out and then drops off to about 90' deep. The water color is amazing when the sun is out. There is a massive boat launch in a protected lagoon. The campground has about 400 sites. There are a few sites with full hook-ups. some of the sites are difficult to get into once you get up into the trees away from the water front.  Getting a site here during the summer can be very difficult. You will want one of the sites closer to the lake.  If you want one of these sites, you will need to be ready to book the site 6 months in advance. There is also a camp store that sells ice cream and homemade pizza.

    Great Old School Camping

This campground is the perfect spot if you want to still have a camping experience and get away from RV parks. The terrain there makes for a beautiful view. The new owners are great and made our group feel right at home! The pool, putt putt, and walking trails were nice as well! The pull through sites were great for the two 28’ fifth wheels and 30 ft bumper pull in our group. There are a lot of trees but the new owners have worked hard to make sure the sites are cleared enough to park in. Will definitely be back again and will be interested to see what more great things Shane and Cindy have in store for this place.

    Traverse Bay RV Resort

    Very high-end class A Resort

We have spent six weeks at this park for the last 6 years. We attend a horse show circuit near by. It is the creme de la creme of RV parks. The sites are individually owned (and leased out) and many of the owners have made their lots very nice. The park is limited to Class A, Fifth Wheels and Class C only. This park is dominated by big, very nice class A's.

We have a 5th wheel and have appreciated the amenities very much. Great wifi, curbside garbage pickup, trails, dog park, and many others. You are limited to 2 dogs, and they are very strict about leashes and picking up poop. But, that keeps the place looking nice.

We enjoy it very much and it is so close to the horse show, it cannot be beat. Because they are such a popular place to stay during the show (July - mid August), they sites book up a year in advance.

Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort

Excellent Location with Lots of Activities

We were searching for a super last minute campground near Traverse City for Memorial Weekend and everything within a quick drive seemed booked. I called up Timber Ridge to check if anything came available and they offered an RV site that we could use for our tents. It was a miracle!

The campgrounds were easy to navigate and even with all the activities available it never seemed too busy or too crowded or too loud. our campsite (although surrounded by RVs was perfect size and spot for 4 of us camping with 2 tents and an SUV loaded down with kayaks.

The RV spot had electric and water so we were able to take advantage of that to keep portable devices charged and clean dishes we’d brought along. and the campsite comes with a fire ring (with attached grill) and picnic table.

Would definitely come back here next time we’re in the area!

    Beaver Creek Resort

    Typical Outdoor Adventures membership campground

This is one of the smaller campgrounds in the Outdoor Adventures membership camping sites. The individual sites are relatively close together, with about half having full hookups, the others just have water and electric. There are cabins available for rent on site, but those are managed by a completely different company.

The campground has a great indoor pool, camp store, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. There is a great outdoor water slide that looked fun. A small lake has boats and kayaks for use by campers.

    Will be back!

Our time at this campground has been exceptional. The grounds are kept very clean and tidy, the camp store had what we needed, and the atmosphere is very quiet and calming. Everything on our full hookup site worked good and our site itself was level.

Our weather wasn’t very good, 66 and rainy, but we made the best of our time by going downtown Bellaire and visiting Shorts Brewing. The little town has some cute shops and is only 8 minutes from the campground.

We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to book again next year.

This park is very quiet and peaceful. It has full hookup sites and others with just electric. If you want a place to just be in the woods and enjoy the woods this is the place. Many family's love how quiet and restful it can be. The bathroom and showers are very clean. The DNR Rangers are really very friendly and willing to give go suggestions on places to eat, hike and swim. If you have children who love water, you will have to travel to a swimming hole.. The Chapel in the Woods is beautiful. The kids loved learning about the area and the wood mill camp. I totally recommend this park if you want to sit and relax! !

    First time, will be back!

We had a chilly Memorial Day weekend but were very impressed with the campground. Great mix of activities for the kids. Big park but felt small, no problems with traffic and golf carts like we have experienced at other “resort” style campgrounds. All sites are full hookup and there are just enough cabins, cottages, and yurts for our non-camping family to tag along! Staff was very friendly.

    Great private campground

Great little campground just on the outskirts of Cadillac. Great rates especially for full hookups. This was our first time at this park, we originally had a site next to the pool, but quickly realized our TT would not fit due to the trees. The front desk quickly changed our site and we were good to go. All sites were well maintained, they had a petting zoo (goats) and a store with a little game room in it. I would definitely come back.

    Wilson State Park Campground

    Nice "In town" campground

Unfortunately, it's bordered on 2 sides by 2 major roads, Old 27 and Townline Lake Rd, and Harrison is loaded with people who think "no exhaust" equals "cool car", and are happy to show you just how big a POS they have while driving by the campground, several times a day...For no apparent reason....

Fair week will suck. Loud, crowded, just not fun in my mind. I avoid town on holidays and fair week, you should too.

Yes, some spots are smaller than others, so be honest about your rig length when booking. Many sites are rather large, like 97, but severely sloped, also like 97... Others are flat, small, and your camper is right near the road (I forget the site numbers, but on the circle drive across from 97).

Power at sites, water at posts in the area. Clean place for the most part. Paved roads. A few are full hookup. Those are in a row by the playground. All in all, typical state park...

Varying topography. Very low sites on the West edge, side nearest Old 27, far South end it is higher, sloped, can be cramped to get into for newbs. One spot in the corner, the very Northeast corner camp spot, is low, and flood prone during rain.

Didn't use the facilities. That's why I bought a camper, and I use it. GF says they were decent.

Beach is ok. Can tie up a few boats to trees nearby. Bathrooms at beach as well.

Not my number one go to spot, unless I'm looking to just get out of the house for the weekend and not leave town. It's $62 total for 2 nights, so it's cheap. Plus it's 6 minutes from home. Still kinda feels like we're flatlanders, but no traffic worries on the trip home🤣.

We had no issues with traffic in the park. Everyone drove slow when we were there. No loud parties, either.

FOOD TIP: Walk over to Steve's county market, just a 5 min walk North, and get the fried chicken. Get there before 5:30 or 6:00, I forget when they stop frying. Lots of other lip smacking grub there as well.

    Round Lake State Forest Campground

    Rustic camping dream

Love this campground. Rustic camping! Sites are spaced out, several trails, and a beach to swim at. Only 15-20 minutes form Lake Huron and the lighthouse.

Site 1 only has one neighbor but there is a good distance between. RV 30ft fit perfectly fine with truck.

The kids were able to ride their bikes around without a worry, cement pad.

No water or electric hook up Water pump right across from site 1. Back by site 10 is a path that leads to the beach area.

Ice cream shop on the corner of the street you enter from.

End of May trip, bugs were pretty bad. Bring bug spray.

    Whitewater Township Park Campground

Nice sized campground in between Elk Rapids and Traverse City.

Set on Elk Lake with a boat launch and pavilion. The camp sites are surrounded by pine trees. They offer electric, some are seasonal. You should feel comfortable bringing your tent, pop up or RV. They have a water and dump station along with nice restroom facilities with separate pay showers that are cleaned often. Reservations are first come first serve and aren't taken until early April. So book early.

    Rifle River Campground

Decent views, unhelpful staff and difficult sites

This campground offers sites for tents and RVs, has water and electrical hookups available, and has bathhouses (if you can call them that). You can also rent canoes, kayaks, and inner tubes to traverse the river with; they drop you off upstream and you bank right at the campground for them to collect the various watercraft. There are fire pits placed periodically around the camp, however, they do not correspond to specific sites and are communal with whatever sites are nearby.

While the views of the river are great from the majority of sites, the entire campground is on a hill. There are few - if any - level areas to camp, and very few hammock-friendly trees. The staff are crotchety and disorganized; they will give you one answer one hour and a different answer the next; they add charges on for every little thing (including showers & firewood - you cannot bring in your own), while the cost to rent a site is exorbitantly expensive (compared to other, comparable sites) to begin with. We attempted to rent kayaks; they were out and told us that we would have had to reserve a year and a half in advance, while others of our group managed to rent them with no problem. The times for the bus to take us upstream were constantly changing with no notification Standard policies such as amounts necessary to rent a site, security deposits, minimum nights required, and how many people were allowed per site were also fluctuating depending on who you inquired with and when you did so. It must be said that when we camped there the camp was far from full, so an overwhelming number of campers could not be to blame at the time.

I would not recommend this campsite or canoe livery to anyone.
