Chain-O-Lakes Campground

Chain-O-Lakes Campground sits within a forested park outside Bellaire, Michigan, drawing drive-in campers with full hookup sites and access to the lakes that give the park its name. Sites accommodate rigs up to 100 feet with electric, water, and sewer connections, and the campground also has WiFi, showers, and a dump station on-site. Reservations are available, which matters here: the grounds see enough traffic that sites fill up, and each site is limited to one tent and one car.

Reviewers consistently note that the grounds are kept clean and the camp store is reasonably priced compared to similar facilities. Waterfront sites in sections like Honeysuckle sit directly on a lake, fully shaded, though spacing between adjacent fire rings runs close. The campground can get noisy. Pit toilets and flush facilities are both a short walk from most sites, in opposite directions.

"Quiet, kid-friendly, great value," notes Hailey C. in her summary of the experience. The park itself gives access to hiking trails, fishing, rowboats, and horseback riding. Downtown Bellaire, about eight minutes away, has a brewery and small shops for a break from camp. Torch Lake is close, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is reachable within roughly an hour.

Campers who want a different setup nearby can look at Antrim Meadows Campground to the southeast or Rapid River Campground to the south for alternative configurations.

Campers regularly cited clean, well-maintained grounds with level sites and quality amenities including a fairly-priced camp store. The atmosphere is generally peaceful, though some areas may experience occasional noise.

Will be back!

Our time at this campground has been exceptional. The grounds are kept very clean and tidy, the camp store had what we needed, and the atmosphere is very quiet and calming. Everything on our full hookup site worked good and our site itself was level.

Our weather wasn’t very good, 66 and rainy, but we made the best of our time by going downtown Bellaire and visiting Shorts Brewing. The little town has some cute shops and is only 8 minutes from the campground.

We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to book again next year.

Very friendly

Great campground, amazing camp store, and friendly staff. Most camp stores over price and this camp’s store prices are very fair. Can only have 1 tent and 1 car per site. Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5

Nearby activities Super close to torch lake and lots of great small towns. Only an hour away from sleeping bear dunes and like 30 minutes from traverse city.

Safety I felt very safe my entire trip

Hotel highlights Quiet, Kid-friendly, Great value

Lots to see and do

Chain O'Lakes Park has it all: trails to hike, horses to ride, boats to row, and fish to catch! After an adventure- packed day, you can return to your nearby campsite for some rest and relaxation.

There are several campgrounds in the park. Our site was in Honeysuckle. It was located on the banks of a lake, fully shaded. Nicely sized. But it is very close to the fire ring of the adjacent site.

The campground was somewhat noisy, but well maintained. The bathroom/shower house was clean. The pit toilets were not. Both were a short walk in opposite directions of our site. Dumpsters located throughout campground.
