Great Location with Potential but...

I was disappointed in the campground after having high expectations from previous reviews.  Sites were fine, good size and maybe could have been some planting between sites.  My concern was that there was only one bathroom, for the entire campground.  They were filthy, cleaned once daily which was considerably less than other campgrounds.  There was a sanitary pad discarded behind a toilet for over 24 hours. Possibly this is the norm, and guests were more disgusting than usual.  The scenic overlook deck was littered with toilet paper where someone had taken to using this area as their own restroom.  The grass and trails weren't mowed and the park attendant said they were changing mowing services, I understand that.  The water hose used to clean tanks had been cut off or fallen off, and when this was showed to a worker, they said they'd tell the manager.  What day, no one knows because he got in his car and left for the night.  The next day it was not fixed.

Which brings me to the point that while there were three people in the guard house, no one was really doing much.  No one drove around checking on things, no one walked a common path to see discarded trash, etc.  The on duty person left at 8PM.  This is all a management issue, not the campground itself.

I have camped at local/municipally owned campgrounds in Michigan before and was very happy, and gladly went with this campground but was disappointed.

Perfect camping

Great sites with electric and water. Dump on site, very clean bathrooms and helpful staff. The campground has great Elk Lake access and some sites have views of the lake. Well kept, ice and firewood for sale on site.

Amazing hidden gem

If you are looking for a no-frills secluded campground with spaced out campsites and beautiful views this is the place for you. It does not have a lot of extras but for a peaceful camping trip it has everything you need.

Nice grounds, friendly staff

Nicely run with several loops surrounding a central bathroom/shower building. Shade and sun with tall pine trees in rows. Not much privacy. Bathroom is nice, but if you’re a tent camper, it can be a bit of hike to the toilet. Showers run on quarters.

Clean!

They do a great job maintaining and improving site each year. Their bathrooms are very clean daily. Very happy with our stays at this campground.

Nice little Campground

Nice bathrooms. This park is situated up on a hill on beautiful Elk Lake. Elk Lake can easily access Torch River and into Torch Lake. It has a fantastic boat launch which we have used. There are hiking trails nearby and the campground is about 15 minutes away from the quaint town of Elk Rapids and a very touristy Traverse City. The playground isn’t much, but offers the kids a place to go.

Very Clean and Great Bathrooms

Camped here during the week. This is a township campground and does NOT get funding from The state so there are lots of little fees and also the showers are quarter operated (7 min per 25cents). But its well worth the money because they keep it very well cleaned and updated bathrooms. We got a lake view site, but the view was blocked by the RV next to us which sucked. Get site 7, 8, or 9 for an unobstructed view of the lake. Firewood was $6 a bundle, $5 to use the boat launch, and $15 per night for an extra tent. Regardless of viee and fees i would go back here. The location is amazing, right on Elk lake and 20min from Torch lake, 5min from the bay, and 30min to WINERIES (which we visited on a rainy day when we couldnt swim). Highly recommend!

Lovely hillside campground

Mother's Day weekend was our first trip to this park, but we'll surely be back.

At check in we got a bag of homemade cookies tied with a sprig of evergreen. It was such a great touch. The folks that operate the campground really take great care & it shows. We spoke to a fellow camper that has been camping there for 50+ years and he had nothing, but rave reviews for the current caretakers.

The sites are beautiful and spacious. The park itself is positioned on a hillside next to a lake. We had a site at the top of the hill which I recommend.

There were bathrooms and showers on site; Tent & RV sites; a small playground; boat launch; hiking trails and fire rings and picnic tables at every site.

Excellent campground on Elk Lake

We just visited this campground this past weekend and it was beautiful! I loved the clear blue water down the big dropoff hill and how heavily wooded this entire park was. Made it perfect for hammock camping! Will definitely be staying here again in the near future.

Close to Elk Rapids

This campground is close to Elk Rapids which is what I really cared about. The sites are nice and large, however, I thought we would have better access to Elk Lake. I would stay here again though.

Nice sized campground in between Elk Rapids and Traverse City.

Set on Elk Lake with a boat launch and pavilion. The camp sites are surrounded by pine trees. They offer electric, some are seasonal. You should feel comfortable bringing your tent, pop up or RV. They have a water and dump station along with nice restroom facilities with separate pay showers that are cleaned often. Reservations are first come first serve and aren't taken until early April. So book early.
