Reservations are available at this county-run campground on the south shore of Lake Superior, with electric hookups at sites that run $30 per night during the May through September season. The park sits about 16 miles from Ironwood, so arriving with groceries, ice, and firewood already loaded is a practical necessity. Access is by vehicle or boat, and the campground is ADA accessible.
Sites are wooded and set back enough from each other that crowding, while possible on busy summer weekends, does not eliminate privacy. Teek D. describes the sites as "semi secluded and wooded," overlooking cliffs above the lake. All sites have at least partial shade. Campers spend time on roughly a mile of rock beach, where agates turn up occasionally, though they require patience and a sharp eye. Black flies are worth preparing for in early summer.
Cell coverage is inconsistent. T-Mobile users have reported little to no signal on-site, while some Verizon users have managed phone and text service. Reviewers note that moving toward the boat launch or heading west on CR 505/122 can improve reception. There are no dump facilities or on-site store. Toilets are available but require crossing a county road from some sites. Saxon Harbor County Park sits a few miles to the southwest for campers weighing nearby alternatives.
This campground works best for self-sufficient campers who want direct Lake Superior access, rock-hunting opportunities, and electric hookups without the infrastructure of a larger facility.
Description
The Little Girl’s Point Park is a rustic recreational facility established by Gogebic County in 1920, and is located at E1930 Lake Road in Ironwood, Michigan along the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. There are 29 electric (30-50 amp power), and 2 non-electric campsites available for nightly or monthly reservations. An on site water tanker provides access to potable water to fill containers. (** There is no direct water to sites and no dump station available at the park) Little Girl’s Point County Campground features breathtaking views of Lake Superior as well as two pavilions with grills and picnic tables, walking trails and recently updated playground equipment. Within the park boundaries, the mouth of Oman’s Creek offers boating access. Camping, swimming, fishing, rock hounding, boating and sightseeing are all ways to enjoy the beauty and grandeur of Lake Superior and Little Girl’s Point County Park. On most days the Porcupine Mountains are clearly visible to the west and the Apostle Islands are visible to the northwest. The sunsets are spectacular during the camping season and during the off season winter months there are often massive ice formations along the shore of the beach.
