Stunning views in every direction and plenty of spots to choose from once you turn onto the gravel/dirt road. It’s a little bumpy so take it slowly, but I had no problem and I drive a 2WD hatchback.
A quick word of warning: rattlesnakes could be in the bushes! Keep your dog close and be cognizant of your surroundings!
These roads can get muddy! And I don’t mean just a little muddy, I mean “need to get your car towed and it will be a multi hour event.” Before driving on these roads, get out and ensure the route you’re about to drive is dry!
Great hosts at this campground, interesting and beautiful National Forest, lots of ATV trails. A bit far from good hikes, would likely need to drive to a trailhead instead of just setting out from the campground if you wanted to make good time.
Didn’t end up staying overnight, but enjoyed some day use of the area. Gorgeous views, well-kept pit toilets (with hand sanitizer!) and it wasn’t too busy.
Beautiful managed campsite right on the beartooth scenic byway in Montana. No cell service (at all, no matter your provider) but you’re a quick 15 minute drive to the town of Red Lodge with everything you could need.
Perfect amount of tree cover in these campsites with gorgeous views of the Beartooths and scenic hikes every direction. There are three campsites on this main road loop (Greenough, Parkside, and Limber Pine). All have a mix of first come first serve sites and pre-booked sites.
Lovely hiking, somewhat close campsites but good amount of tree/brush coverage separating them. Fantastic services (bath house, visitor center, etc).
The wooded sites and beachfront sites are the best, highly recommend the wooded sites. Although you don’t have the view, it’s further from the road so you don’t hear any traffic, the RVs, etc. much more quiet that way.
Gorgeous views, busy, but enough space between wooded sites for a touch of privacy.
I spend all day every day at the lake, which has lovely beach walks for about a mile total of available shore.
I found it hard to locate any cell service (T-Mobile).
2 day stay in mid august was absolutely lovely (bring bug spray). -> gorgeous hikes nearby (hiking around Clark lake is an 8-10 mile trek that’s gorgeous the whole way -> bathrooms kept clean -> nice and quiet -> beautiful views of the forest from every campground (not just staring at other campers), very private.
Beautiful fog rolling in in the morning, kind people at the campsite, and bears at night (just sniffing around). Completely serene and calming as an off season experience (we stayed April 30 2023) The water is good to drink We had no cell service (T-Mobile / sprint) There was still a few feed of snow cover so dress warm!
Completely unobstructed view of the Buffalo gap. After turning onto the main road for the site (gravel, potholes), you’ll come up to the gap. There isn’t a bad place to park, but we parked about 500 yards along the gap to the left after the road meets it. Stunning view.
We stayed overnight mid April- it got down to 26 degrees so dress for the weather! The landscape is unforgiving (windy, no shade, etc.) Water is key!
This dispersed campsite has a stunning north-facing view (depending on the angle you park) with the gap right below you. Honestly, don’t even bother paying to get into the National park unless you’re passionate about seeing Buffalo up close.
Not too crowded, got to 26 degrees in mid April (so pack for the weather!)
