Description

North Ironwood Acres has been a staple family destination for traveler's looking to explore the beauty of Ironwood and the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan for decades. Season-after-season, we host individuals, families, and groups from all over the Midwest, United States, and even a few internationally. Several bring stories of times they spent here as a kid or for weddings/family events. Most come to enjoy recreation as there is something for everyone nearby in every season.

Our family operated resort has grown and evolved over the years to include general nightly lodging, full hook up camping, group services and event & wedding services. We offer several accommodation types: 10 unique guestrooms and 4 condos inside of our Lodge, 2 private townhouses across our parking lot, and 25 full hook up campsites a little further back on the property. All accommodations are dog friendly. Additionally, our property features an event hall seating up to 200 people, a cocktail bar, and general store located inside our Lodge.

**Our campground, named Stargazers UP Campground, is a new accommodation for 2025. All sites are large 75' x 35' grassy sites with water, sewer, and 20/30/50 electric hookup. There is a bath house with showers and flush toilets. A small playground nearby plus a pond available for catch and release fishing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Our private, wooded multi-use trails provide guests direct access to the Black River for river fishing, wading, and exploring. The campground has a stunning northern view at night which is perfect for stargazing or catching a glimpse of Lady Aurora when she's dancing.**

Our lodge, named Black River Lodge, is very unique and a great middle option between a private vacation rental and a standard hotel. The entire space feels very cozy and homey like a vacation rental, but we offer all private sleeping quarters with private bathrooms like a hotel. We have a couple of guest lounges (Birch Lounge and Loft Lounge) which are great for relaxing, playing games, or even remotely working if needed. We do have Wi-Fi available to all property guests inside of the Lodge. Our small general store is located near the main entrance and ideal for those looking for travel essentials, snacks, beverages, ice cream by the pint, firewood, bagged ice, and more. Our cocktail lounge is located in the bottom level of the Lodge and is a wonderful space for socializing. We offer cocktails, mocktails, bottle and tap beer, wine and (frozen) 12" bar-style pizza's.

Our townhouses within our Townhouse Village are steps from the Lodge and are comparable to any private vacation rentals, but with the amenities of our resort. All are bi-level and include a kitchen, living room and fireplace, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and private laundry. Perfect for those looking for more of a self-sufficient stay. Cleaning and resort fees are always included in all our advertised rates.

Our property is located on the Black River Scenic Byway and the closest lodging in the area to the five Black River Scenic Byway waterfalls, Copper Peak and Lake Superior (Black River Harbor). Little Girls Point park/beach is within 20 minutes along with several other falls, lookouts, and trails in the immediate area to explore. 35 minutes to Presque Isle (Porcupine Mtns). 1 hour to Lake of the Clouds (Porcupine Mtns). 1 hour to Bond Falls. 1.5 hours to Apostle Islands. Mountain biking available just up the road at Copper Peak (3mi). Coming for winter recreation? Snowshoe right on site, or head down our road to the Lake Superior or the waterfalls. We are within 10 minutes to ABR Ski Trails, Wolverine Ski Trails, Iron Belle Trail, and about 20 minutes from the Historic Montreal Ski Trails. We are 3 miles from Big Powderhorn Mountain, 8-10 min. to Mt. Zion Ski Hill & Tubing, 10-15 min. to Snowriver Ski Resort, 30-35 min to Whitecap Ski Resort, 1 hour to the Porcupine Mtns Ski Resort. If Snowmobiling or ATV/UTV/Offroading, we are located 5.5 miles north of Trail #2. Yes, it is legal to ride straight from our resort to the trail using Black River Road and Powderhorn Road if you have trail passes. Trail #160 isn't far either, just a different direction.

From general lodging/camping to group getaways to Northwoods style weddings, let us know how we can make your visit to the Western Upper Peninsula memorable!
