Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Williamsport offer premium glamping options with canvas cabins and yurts within a 25-mile radius of Cavetown. The glamping accommodations at these resorts provide comfortable sleeping arrangements, electricity, and proximity to recreational facilities. According to a camper, "The cabins had a queen bed, 2 bunks, microwave and refrigerator and a small bathroom. That was a tight space but a bathroom none the less." Both locations maintain well-appointed facilities with hot showers, clean restrooms, and on-site stores stocked with camping supplies and food items. The glamping units typically include comfortable beds, heating, and convenient access to the campground's central amenities.

Accessible hiking trails surrounding the glamping sites connect to major attractions including the Appalachian Trail and historic Harpers Ferry. Jellystone Park features dedicated glamping zones with easy access to the swimming pool, playground, and seasonal activities for families. One visitor noted, "There are a lot of activities for adults and kids alike. The jump zone and playground are great for children." Water recreation opportunities abound with the Potomac River offering tubing, kayaking, and swimming options during summer months. Both glamping resorts maintain seasonal operation schedules with peak availability from April through October, requiring advance reservations during summer weekends when boutique camping accommodations frequently sell out due to their popularity with visitors exploring the historic battlefields and water recreation in the region.

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

We booked two nights mid October not realizing that it's duck hunting season and that hunting is allowed RIGHT by the campground - with kids everywhere. We were jolted out of sleep at 5 am by gun fire right near our site. It kept up for the next hour. In addition, the bathrooms, although clean are in poor condition. Peeling paint everywhere with bare concrete in the showers. For such a pretty site, we had a miserable stay. We left after one night.

      Codorus State Park Campground

      Hurricane camping

You just can't beat a pennsylvania park. This one is not an exception. Nice clean restroom, plenty of room. Now, what cost a star. Yes, it rained like hell. When we broke camp and go dump. The dump station was overflowing with sewer. Go to the guard shack to tell them, and find another site. None there. Can I go to an unused full hookup to dump? No! I would have to pay for the site. Two hours later, we found a place to dump for $10.

Fifteen Mile Campground — Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park

      Safe, clean, and beautiful!

The campground is a nice size with enough space between sites to feel as though you have some privacy.

We reserved site 4 online but someone had set up there when we arrived. Site 6 was open and it had a better view anyway and was farther away from the toilets, so we didn’t mind.

The boat launch is right there which we planned to paddle board in the morning, but got rained out. The river looks really nice and clean though.

Tables and fire pits are a great size. We saw some gorgeous stars as there isn’t any light pollution.

It’s only half hour from Berkeley Springs, so fill up your spring water for free there and then come enjoy the campsite!

      Will definitely return.

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA

      Close to history!

This KOA offers close and cozy get away near Harper’s Ferry Virginia. Technically within walking distance to the National Park shuttle to downtown. Spots are open and spaced out and they offer private showers/bathrooms

    Guide to Cavetown

Cunningham Falls State Park near Cavetown offers two distinct camping zones within a 15-mile radius—the Manor Area and Houck Area—with elevation changes of 300-800 feet across the Catoctin Mountains. The region's limestone terrain creates unique water features that enhance camping possibilities while maintaining relatively mild temperatures from April through October, rarely exceeding 90°F even in summer months.

    What to do

Creek exploration: 3-mile access point at Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA where you can tube or kayak. "You can get a site along the creek where you can tube or kayak (they rent them out here)! Close to Antitiem battlefield, vineyards, antiques or even DC (1 hour)," notes Misty C.

Battlefield hiking: Historic trails within walking distance of Artillery Ridge Campground. "Behind the campsite we stayed at, we learned connected to Stangler Farm, which served as a hospital for the wounded. Literally right outside the entrance of the campgrounds is where the battlefield starts," explains MJ B.

Rock climbing: Moderate difficulty on the AT near Annapolis Rock. "The best part is the Annapolis Rock cliffs. they offer beautiful views and all kinds of single pitch rock climbing! There are also two bear poles," says Cory D.

Fall festivals: Local celebrations throughout October. "If you're there around Columbus Day weekend, check out Colorfest in the town of Thurmont!!" recommends Ella P. from Cunningham Falls State Park.

    What campers like

Spacious yurt sites: Manor Area at Cunningham Falls State Park Manor Area provides larger campsites than the Houck Area. "I haven't seen this much space between campsites in a long time. The place was clean, paved roads, great price and very quiet," explains Ellen C.

Waterpark access: All-day activities for families at Jellystone Park. "We recent went camping for the first time at Jellystone in Maryland. 5 of our 6 kids came with us, so we knew we needed to find a camping ground more geared kids. Jellystone was amazing in every way possible," shares Mary.

Primitive camping options: Hike-in only locations provide quieter experiences. "About a dozen campsites to choose, and several group sites. Some fairly private. No camp fires allowed. Short walk to cold natural spring for water. Short walk to Annapolis rock," notes CHRISTOPHER B.

Glamping cabins: Canvas structures at Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA offer unique sleeping arrangements. "The cabins had comfortable beds and well-maintained utility hook-ups. The whole park is quiet and well-maintained," reports Matt S.

    What you should know

Seasonal limitations: Water features may be disappointing during dry periods. "We hiked to the falls but with little rain, there was no falls. A very crowded hike with people everywhere," explains Laure D. from Cunningham Falls State Park.

Bug preparation: Insect repellent essential from June-September. "Even though this seems like it's in the trees there was actually no shade! Literally hundreds of gnats outside my tent and it was April! Can't imagine how bad it is in the summer," warns Jakob D.
