Clean bathhouses: Facility cleanliness stands out at many campgrounds. "The bathrooms were quite possibly the cleanest camp bathrooms I've ever come across. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better first experience there," reviews Lee Anne H.
Natural water slides: Unique water features provide natural recreation spots. "Aside from the rock water slide, which is burned into the kid's memories, there's great, easy hiking trails and a pet-friendly campsite," shares Erin H. about Ohiopyle State Park.
What You Should Know
Cell service limitations: Many campgrounds have minimal connectivity. "Note that there is very little to no cell phone reception in the park, so combined with the lack of hookups, this is definitely an unplugged, 'connect with nature' type of camping experience," explains Jen V. about New Germany State Park.
Alcohol restrictions: Pennsylvania and some Maryland state parks prohibit alcohol. "This campground is in a PA state park. Alcohol is not allowed in any PA State Parks," notes Tracy B. about Ohiopyle State Park, adding that "Rangers are vigilant about patrolling."
Tent pad sizing: Some parks provide inaccurate measurements online. "There are two loops- one pet friendly, one not. The larger (not pet friendly) loop is nearer the lake. Some of the sites are close together, some are not as large as they are made out to be on the reservation site," explains Bill G. about New Germany State Park.
