Within 30 miles of Bar Mills, Maine, several RV parks provide full hookup options for motorhome travelers. Wild Acres Sun RV Resort in Old Orchard Beach offers big-rig friendly sites with full hookups, operating from April 30 to October 13. Pinehirst RV Park, also in Old Orchard Beach, features 50-amp service and sewer hookups with a longer season running April 1 through October 31. Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park in Scarborough accommodates large motorhomes with 50-amp electrical service and full hookups on gravel sites. Thousand Trails Moody Beach provides big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp service and sewer connections but lacks a dump station. "Our site was level and long enough to fit our 45' RV. The pad was gravel and the patio was grass with a firepit and picnic table," noted one RV camper about their experience at a nearby park.

Summer months bring heavy traffic to coastal RV parks, making advance reservations essential, particularly for premium pull-through sites. Most RV campgrounds in the region operate seasonally, typically closing by mid-October. Cell service varies between parks, with Verizon generally providing reliable coverage throughout the area. Many parks offer on-site amenities specifically for RV campers, including laundry facilities, camp stores, and trash service. Pet policies differ significantly between locations - Wild Duck Adult Campground and Wild Acres Sun RV Resort welcome pets, while Sun Outdoors Saco Old Orchard Beach does not. Some parks charge additional fees for pets, as one reviewer mentioned: "We also had to pay extra for our dog, which we thought was odd." RV travelers should note that several parks have narrow interior roads that can make maneuvering challenging, particularly for larger rigs.

      Bearcamp River Campground

      Bearcamp River Campground

Bear camp River campground is a great place to camp for a weekend or be a seasonal. You can walk 6/10 of a mile to the covered bridge nearby and float right down to the beach at the campground or you can start on one side of the campground and float to the other via river for a good 30 minute float!! You get to Camp right on the Riverside. Owners (Mike and Tabby ) are great. Good place for the kids to run around and explore. The Camp store has sweatshirts and sweatpants , candy and snacks ,s’mores kits, and much much more.  They also  sell wood and ice on site. There is also hot showers for free, and bathrooms. Two thumbs up from this happy camper.

      Sea-Vu West Premier RV Resort

      Pleasantly surprised.

This campground is mostly seasonal, privately owned park models, but has 45 spaces for RV’s. I was a little skeptical about staying at this campground with so many park models and seasonals but was pleasantly surprised at how nice, clean, and tidy all the sites were. They obviously take pride in how things look because the grounds and campsites were very well-kept.

All campsites are 50/30-amp full hook-up with level gravel pads with grassy patios, a picnic table, and fire pit. We stayed in site#702 which was long enough for our 45’ motorhome and tow car. All the utilities were easy to reach and the electric worked well. The only problem was that we were parked under a large oak tree that was profusely shedding large acorns. There are some sites that are in the open which I would definitely choose, if I came back in the fall. The campground is gated which is a nice feature. It is located a mile or so off Route 1 which means you don’t get the road noise and traffic, but still conveniently located near shops and restaurants.

One nice feature are the shaded walking trails in the park. While they are not super long, it is a nice change from walking the roads (which are paved). Other amenities include a decent size swimming pool (closed while we were there), a basketball court, playground, laundry, and camp store.  I thought it was a little expensive at $75/night (for full hook-up) at the end of the season, especially since the pool was closed.

      Sun Outdoors Wells Beach

Tight sites and expensive, busy area along the Maine coast

We stopped here in the summer to check out the coastal towns in southern Maine. There are many campgrounds in the area and we chose this one because they had a 25% off coupon (on a 7-night stay) which gave us the best nightly price in the area. However, the nightly rate was still$74/night, one reason being they charge a “resort fee” of$15/day which is ridiculous. This is a typical resort-style campground with lots of amenities (most of which we never use). But, for some people, this is a destination campground because of all the amenities- a large heated swimming pool, basketball courts, sand volleyball, bocce, fitness center, two playgrounds, 18-hole minigolf (that you pay extra for), and more.

The campsites in the front of the park are sandwiched between the swimming pool and Route 1 which is very busy and noisy. Campsites in the far back portion of the campground are shaded and a much quieter section. Camping pads and patios are a mix of gravel and sand. Many sites have shade and some have an astroturf patio (I think those are “premium” sites). Our campsite was in the middle section which was fairly quiet but the sites are close together with no privacy. The site was a long and level pull thru with a gravel pad and gravel/sand patio. All sites have a picnic table and fire pit.

There is a tent-only section and they have renal cabins. There is lots to do for families in the area including the beach and amusement and water parks. Restaurants of all sorts are nearby. You can easily walk to Congdon’s Donuts which is a Maine classic.

      Seacoast Camping and RV Resort

      Nice Campground, Love the area!

This is a nice, clean, well-maintained campground for RV and tenting. The campground is located on Route 1 which means you are convenient to a lot of things but there is lots of traffic. Half the campground is seasonal/long term campers and the other side is mostly transients. The roads and campsites are fine crushed gravel with nice grassy patios. The campground is very well maintained (the best part being that the mower collects they cut the grass so no clippings get tracked in your camper). There are some mature trees that provide shade but don’t impede navigating in and out of sites or impacting slide outs.

Campsites range from tent with water/electric to RV water/electric and RV full hook-up 50-amp and full hook-up 30-amp. There are three bathhouses on the property (one of which has a dishwashing sink) and laundry. Tent sites 50-55 are in an are set away from RV sites and more private. They are also close to a large bathhouse with multiple toilets and showers. Tent sites 90-100 are across from a large playground which can be quite chaotic, but if you have kids, this is a great spot.

Our site (#147) was a long pull-thru with a descent amount of space between our neighbors. We got about half a dozen over-the-air channels (one being a major network station) and were able to connect with eastern arc satellites with our Dish Satellite. The 50A electric was good as was the water pressure.

The campground does not have much in the way of amenities except for a game room, basketball court, and playground. The game room is pretty cool with lots of arcade-style games, a pool table, foosball, and table tennis. While we were there, they just finished putting in all new playground equipment and enlarged the size making it really big and a hit with the kids in the park. Once convenience is that maintenance picks up garbage at your site (between 8am– 3pm). Unfortunately, people leave them out after hours and animals got into them and scattered garbage everywhere.  We've stayed here before and always enjoy being in the area as it is close to the fun cities of Portsmouth and Newburyport.

      Jigger Johnson Campground

      Location Location Location

This is our favorite campground on the Kanc. Lots of great hiking and scenic views. Close to Conway as well. Leaf peeping season will find you stuck in traffic. Recommend going afterwards. JJ closes for the season on October 12th.

Boothbay Craft Brewery & RV Resort

      Best brewery and glamping spot

This is one of our favorite campgrounds in the region. Close to the Botanical Gardens and the lovely historic town of Boothbay. The campground is small and well appointed with a super clean bath house and laundry room. Showers are free and the water is hot. Tasty beers and great food available at the brewery, though the brewery isn’t open on Monday- Wednesday.

      Town Hall Road Dispersed

      Dispersed Camping

The campsites are very nice, but they are mostly made for tents or at biggest a van. There were only two spots that we could fit our school bus. About 35ft. We also have starlink so that’s a necessity to have clear sky view. The only campsite with this was the last campsite before the end of the road closes. Which was taken but they were gone in the morning we just moved down. Now it’s very secluded but the drive is very long down so plan for a couple days. You can stay up to 14 days. Road down is a little bumpy but our school bus made it through!

      Powder Horn Family Camping Resort

      Great Place

Very Clean. They mow something everyday. Asphalt roads. Easy access to every spot. Extra clean showers and restrooms. They have activities for all ages. But no dog park. Why not? They have plenty of room.

    Guide to Bar Mills

Camping options near Bar Mills, Maine range from coastal RV resorts to wooded campgrounds with tent sites. The region experiences average summer temperatures between 70-80°F, with coastal areas being slightly cooler than inland locations. Seasonal operation typically runs from early May through mid-October, with most facilities closing before the first frost.

    What to do

Beach access: 15-minute walk from camping: Thousand Trails Moody Beach offers proximity to coastal activities. "The beach is a short 15-minute walk. For children, there is a swimming pool, a basketball court and a small playground," notes Arno W.

Kayaking in Scarborough Marsh: Wild Duck Adult Campground provides marsh access for water activities. "It is within a mile of the Audubon center office, where you can either put in your own kayak/canoe or rent one," explains Heather C. The same reviewer cautions about launching directly from the campground: "In theory, you can launch a kayak from the campground, but I would not recommend it. There is a culvert under Rt 9 that you need to pass under which is dangerous."

Cycling on nearby trails: Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park connects to regional biking paths. "This quiet campground is about a mile from the Eastern Trail through the Scarborough Marsh," explains Kevin W. The trail offers paved surfaces ideal for family cycling adventures through scenic marsh areas.

    What campers like

Heated pools with features: Cole's Mine RV Resort and Campground offers water recreation on-site. "The pool is heated and has an amazing water slide and themed. We had a blast and plan on visiting again next year!!" shares Andrew G. The pool area has become a major draw for families seeking rv sites near Bar Mills, Maine.

Wooded privacy at select sites: Sun Outdoors Saco Old Orchard Beach provides secluded options among their camping areas. "My sister and I lucked out with our cabin and the cul-de-sac it was in. It overlooked the woods and was a bit more secluded than many of the other sites," explains Rachel P., who recommends specific locations: "K3, K2 and K1 are great options as well, located along the wooded edges of the grounds. Tent sites 96, P5, P4, P3, P2 and P1 were also among the best spots, offering full shade and privacy."

On-site food options: Several camping areas near Bar Mills provide meal services. "One of the nice features was the on-site restaurant which claims to be famous for their 'blueberry pancakes' and also offers Belgian waffles, pizza, hamburgers, and hot dogs. I admit the pancakes were delicious and loved eating them campfire side," shares Nancy W. about her stay at Sun Outdoors Saco Old Orchard Beach.

    What you should know

Train noise impacts beachside sites: Wild Acres Sun RV Resort locations closer to the ocean may experience railroad disruptions. "The campground map is missing the train tracks that are between the campground and the ocean. The trains all blow there horn and you will hear it if your at one of the site 'by the ocean'," cautions Bryan. Another camper confirms: "We asked for a site on the edge of Atlantic Ocean, like was described on their website map, we got a train honking behind of our RV."

Mosquito preparation essential: Insects can be problematic at marsh-adjacent camping areas. "The only negative of this place was the mosquitoes. They were TERRIBLE. In the time it took after we parked the camper, to when I could dig the bug spray out of our truck I was covered in bites," warns Megan W. about Wild Duck Adult Campground.

Weekend vs. weekday experience: Crowd levels vary significantly throughout the week at coastal rv sites near Bar Mills. "Sun night was way quieter than Fri and Sat night. Park has great amenities, and well run but just be prepared for large groups, loud music and managed chaos," explains David A. from Wild Acres Sun RV Resort, suggesting Sunday through Thursday stays for those seeking quieter experiences.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Shamrock Campground provides entertainment for younger campers. "Kids had a blast with Friday and Saturday movie nights," shares leona. Another camper notes, "Has a heated pool for de kids to enjoy. In the woods but close to Kennebunkport."

Playground options: Cole's Mine RV Resort stands out for recreational infrastructure. "2 amazing playgrounds, clean facilities and one amazing pool. We are local to the area and are thrilled to have met the owners and Cole himself!" shares Laura C., who adds that the smaller size is advantageous: "This place is perfect for small families or parents of younger kids."

Shuttle service to beaches: Some campgrounds offer transportation to nearby shorelines. "In the summer there is a shuttle that takes you to the beach which is convenient," explains Nancy W. Similarly, Jill P. notes, "Great location trolley will pick you up from the campground and take you to Old Orchard Beach."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Sea-Vu West Premier RV Resort provides spacious options for larger vehicles. "The close location to dining, motorcycle rides, wide/grassy sites and quietness all contribute to a very good stay," notes Susan J., who appreciates the layout. "If you want shade, not much but you have plenty of space to just sit on your other side of your RV and use that for shade."

Seasonal timing considerations: Thousand Trails Moody Beach operates within specific dates. "Our annual membership fees basically covered what it would cost to camp here for two weeks," advises Paulina B., who suggests considering membership options for longer stays at this and other rv sites near Bar Mills, Maine.

Road surface quality: Sea-Vu West offers paved roads throughout their facility. "Roads are paved so kids can ride their bikes with ease. Place is very clean and close to the beech," confirms nick. This feature is particularly valuable for RVers concerned about site accessibility and reduces dust issues common at gravel campgrounds.
