Spacious tent camping areas: The grassy sites accommodate tents well despite being in equestrian areas. "Great for tent camping, very spacious and grassy sites, clean, grill/fire pit was really very nice. Very clean and modern bathrooms, easy access to water. Off-season value: Winter and shoulder season visitors find excellent deals. "Open for off season camping. $14/night for full hookups with pull thru RV sites," reports Anna C. about North Equestrian Campground.
Minimal light pollution: The open prairie setting creates ideal stargazing conditions. Staci I. from Ledges State Park nearby noted, "The stars were so bright! This little nugget is laid out on a vast prairie... Very little light pollution."
What You Should Know
Campground differentiation: Each of the three campgrounds at Brushy Creek has distinct characteristics. "We did drive through the Beach Campground and the South Equine Campground. Beach had very little shade and was primarily families with younger children... North Equine was where most of the horse folks were staying; it was quite crowded. A very bustling area," explains Stephanie B.
Limited shade in some areas: Especially in summer, shade can be scarce. "Unfortunately, we had no shade in the afternoon so weren't able to eat dinner outside or enjoy a fire in the evening," reports one camper at South Equestrian Campground.
Seasonal facility closures: Bathroom and shower facilities may be closed early or late in the season. "The shower house was not open yet due to the time of year, but the drop latrine was open, very clean and well lit," notes a visitor to the area.
Tips for Camping with Families
Paved biking areas: The asphalt campground roads create safe biking zones for children. "The roads inside the campground were all asphalt so lots of bikers enjoying rides around the grounds. There was also a nice playground for the kids surrounded by a well maintained, large, grassy area," notes Stephanie B.
Playground accessibility: Each camping area has easy access to play areas. "Lots of cool kid activities," mentions Luke C. about Jester Park, another nearby option for families seeking equestrian camping near Lehigh.
Nature education opportunities: The area offers wildlife viewing and nature exploration. "First time camping at south campground. Loving it so far! There is still plenty to do! Walking, hiking and exploring," shares Andrea H. about South Equestrian Campground.
Tips from RVers
Power requirements: Different campgrounds offer varying electrical service. "I like beach camp, but I LOVE north equestrian camp. Wish the boxes accommodated my rig. If you need 50 amps, you're going to want to head to the Beach Camp," advises Jeannie D.
Level sites: Most RV sites are well maintained and level. "This was a super cool state park, great amenities, level and spacious RV spots," says Adam about South Equestrian Campground.
Off-season camping advantages: Lower rates and fewer crowds make shoulder seasons attractive. "We chose to stay in the equestrian campsite (even though we didn't have horses) because it was a bit more secluded and shaded. The campsites were nice and the lake and stream were very nice as well," shares Brandon C.
