Sherman Co Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sherman Park, managed by the Clinton County Conservation Board, contains this established campground along the Wapsipinicon River in Calamus, Iowa. The layout divides into two distinct sections: an electric area with gravel pads and more spacing between sites, and a primitive riverside section that sits closer to the water. Both boat-in and drive-in access are available, making the campground a practical stop for paddlers as well as RV travelers.

The Wapsipinicon River is a consistent draw. Reviewers mention tubing, fishing, and paddling as regular activities, and a boat ramp provides direct water access. On land, a playground, horseshoe pit, and a few trails round out the options. The shower house draws repeated attention from campers, with one reviewer noting it is "the nicest and cleanest I've seen." A seasonal host is on-site, firewood is available, and a dump station serves RV campers alongside full electric, water, and sewer hookups.

Nearby, Wapsi River Environmental Ed. Ctr. sits less than a mile to the southwest, and Porth RV Park is a few miles northeast for campers comparing options along this stretch of the river corridor. Reservations are available and pets are allowed. Sherman Co Park is a good match for families, anglers, and RV campers who want full hookups with direct river access in a small-county-park setting.

Scenic County park along Wapsipinicon River

The campground offers to camp areas: one better suited for RVs, and the other area is better suited for primitive tent, camping. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings, our recites include electric. There is a campground host, shower house, shelter and playground area there too. The tent sites are prone to flooding occasionally from the gun river. There is a boat ramp with access to the river for fishing and paddling.

Park includes 2 CG areas: RV and primitive. There are basic seasonal amenities: RR, playground, shelter, seasonal host, water, dump station, electric, fire rings, trails, fishing and boating (boat ramp) on the Wapsipinicon River. Primitive CG can get loud at times though it has spacious sites.

My favorite campground

This quant little campground is my favorite. There's plenty of room between sites in the electric section and there's even more room along the river in the primitive section, which is my personal favorite. The bathroom /shower house is the nicest & cleanest I've seen. The camp host's are very friendly. There's also a nice newer playground for the kids and a few trail to explore. Our favorite past time while we're there is to go tubing on the Wapsi River.

Smaller campground along Wapsipinicon River

Primitive sites with fishing, boat ramp needs work but fine for paddling, newer shower house, across river from great nature center- Wapsi River Env Ed Center that has live raptors, snakes, turtles, and exhibits. Good place to gather wild edibles.
