    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Love's RV Stop in De Motte features a gated dog park alongside basketball and tennis courts, providing dedicated space for pets to exercise after travel. Several pet-friendly campgrounds in the area offer full hookup sites with 50-amp service, including Oak Lake RV Resort, Lake Holiday Camping Resort, and Pioneer Family Campground. Most locations maintain standard leash policies when pets are outside designated exercise areas. Campgrounds like Michigan City Campground receive positive reviews for their well-maintained dog parks and secure gated access. The clean, convenient Love's RV Stop earned praise from travelers with pets who appreciated the basic amenities and spacious sites, though one visitor noted a ground fault on the 50-amp circuit requiring use of the 30-amp hookup instead.

Indiana Dunes National Park's Dunewood Campground welcomes pets at its wooded sites, providing access to nearby pet-friendly trails and Lake Michigan beaches. The campground's shaded environment offers relief during summer months, though mosquitoes can be problematic in low-lying areas after rainfall. Tippecanoe River State Park Campground combines pet-friendly policies with hiking opportunities suitable for dogs, making it popular with families traveling with pets. Campers report wildlife viewing opportunities along creek areas, including crane and duck sightings that pets should be kept away from. Several campgrounds feature playgrounds adjacent to dog parks, allowing families to supervise both children and pets simultaneously. Seasonal considerations affect pet comfort, with summer humidity increasing the importance of shade and water access at campsites.

      Family Fun

A relaxing campground for the whole family. Swimming, camp fires, children parks, dog park, small trails, and only 10 minutes from Indiana beach. Love staying here.

Dunewood Campground — Indiana Dunes National Park

Great spot to stay if you’re visiting

Compared to the other popular campground in the state park this is way less crowded. There’s tons of trails to do along the lakeshore and none are really far from one another. I grew up in NWI so I didn’t camp in Indiana often but I did here and loved it! There are a bunch of raccoons that can come steal food so beware of that! Overall nice though!

      Michigan City Campground

      Great campground

We stayed in the off season in a site close to the laundry facility and office. Great campground for families. Our site was smaller however, no one was around us so it seemed bigger. They do have nice premium sites in the front. Loved that it is gated and and key card access after hours. Has a dog park and a playground for the kids.

      Nice enough for local camping

Many very nice permanent sites. We loved the dog park along with the many activities available. We come here at least once a year. Check out their information on their website.

If you want a quick local get away this is the place.

      Michigan City Campground

Not my favorite, but not horrible

Pros - playground, pool, well kept grounds, helpful staff, gated/swipe card access, ponds, close to area attractions, decent campground WiFi, small fire ring, small dog park

Cons - tight spaces, BYO grill, bad showers, dirty/tight bathroom area

The mens room is just gross. Water in the stalls because showers don’t drain. Water in the shower never gets hot. Missing shower heads with pressure that almost tears your skin. Can barely squeeze into the tiny stall. Toilets are gross.

      Michigan City Campground

      Great Campground

We used it as an over night stop right off of 94. It was perfect for that. It would also be perfect spot to stay longer if wanted to be in the area. Grounds were nice. Clean bathrooms, laundry, dog friendly, pool, office is friendly and has a store with game room. Nice dog park. We are in a 40ft with tow and did not need to unhook.

      Clean and convienent

Great stop for the night, It's new, gated and has basic amenities like a General store, Dog park and basketball court and tennis ball court for some activities if you have kids. Plenty of space and Convenient. We reserved and checked in online. The only complaint I had is the site we were at showed a ground fault on the 50amp Circuit so I had to use the 30 amp circuit but it's Nov so no need to run dual ACs minor issue but still make sure your using your EPM devices.

      Norway Campground

      Great seasonal park

This park is under new ownership. They have gotten the pool repaired and open and have cleaned up much of the park with more to come. The creek flowing through makes it so cool and peaceful and the animal life is beautiful. Saw a huge crane in the creek today along with a whole duck family…the folks there are friendly. There’s a dog park, playground, bounce pad, basketball court, pavilion and a great big dam across the street where the fishing is great! Boats are welcome and the staff is great!

    Guide to De Motte

Camping areas near De Motte are situated in the Kankakee River valley, where the flat terrain contains a mix of wetlands, oak groves, and prairie remnants. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-85°F during the day with high humidity, while nights can drop to 55-65°F. Seasonal rain patterns create varying ground conditions across campgrounds, with sites near waterways experiencing more mosquito activity after precipitation.

    What to do

Hiking the trails at Tippecanoe River State Park: Explore the network of trails through woodland terrain. "There is a firetower, which is fun for the kids and the hike to get there is short," notes Kaley A. in her review of Tippecanoe River State Park Campground.

Swimming at the lake obstacle course: Oak Lake RV Resort offers water activities beyond standard swimming. "Pond swimming & obstacle course, movies on our inflatable screen, golf cart glow parades, s'mores, homemade campfire pizzas & endless family memories," shares Nadiehsda B. in her review of Oak Lake RV Resort.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple sites offer fishing access with no license required for children under 16. "There was a nice big field for the dog to run. Nature trails and of course Cedar Lake. People seemed friendly," writes Christopher G. about his experience at Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park.

    What campers like

Clean facilities with modern amenities: Bathroom facilities vary significantly between campgrounds. "Station A looked like it had been totally rehabbed in the last 5 years. Everything looked nice & the showers could be turned to your preferred temperature," writes Cynthia K. about Tippecanoe River State Park Campground.

Well-maintained family areas: Playgrounds and recreation spaces at several campgrounds receive positive reviews. "Pulled in as the sun was coming down after a looong day of driving. Our site was right next to the playground and my kids had a blast swinging, climbing, and jumping while we set up camp," shares Sadie H. about her experience at Oak Lake RV Resort.

Variety of site options: Sites range from standard back-in to pull-through configurations. "All the outer sites are pretty good. Our site ponded water after a rain, but soaked in fast," notes Cynthia K. about the campground layout at Tippecanoe River State Park.

    What you should know

Seasonal weather impacts: Timing matters for comfort at these dog-friendly campgrounds. "This is a North Central State Park in Indiana. Not one of the better units, but it has some charms. The mosquitos get bad in the summer, so come prepared. We camped the end of May & they were just getting going. Spring & late fall would be a good time to visit," advises Cynthia K. about Tippecanoe River State Park.

Train noise near some campgrounds: Several sites experience periodic noise from nearby rail lines. "The only reason I rate this park a three is that it's very close to train lines and the trains going through and blasting their horns all night long. If you're a heavy sleeper and can deal with that, you'll be just fine but us tent camping there was nothing to block the sound," warns Kaley A. about Indiana Dunes State Park Campground.

Site spacing considerations: Site privacy varies significantly between campgrounds. "Spaces are TIGHT on the full hook up side. We have a 21' and hardly got in. We were super close to fellow campers. On the other side of the grounds around the pond (electric only) sites were much bigger and secluded," explains Heather G. about Last Resort Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: Select sites with direct visibility to play areas. "For the playground, sites 2,3,4,6,&7 have direct access to a playground & you can watch your children from your site. All the interior sites by comfort station B have direct access to the playground from your site & you can watch your children from your site," advises Cynthia K. about Tippecanoe River State Park.

Safety features: Some pet-friendly campgrounds near De Motte offer additional security measures. "We stayed on site 27, sites are full hookup up, there's a nice bathhouse which has a key pad handle which made me feel safe while showering. There's a playground as well," reports holly S. about Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park.

Activities beyond the campsite: Many campgrounds schedule regular events. "One highlight, especially for kids is the Saturday night golf cart parade. After dark the campers with golf carts do a parade around the campground and toss candy," shares Ron L. about Last Resort Campground.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection guidance: RV-friendly campgrounds offer varying levels of assistance. "From the moment you drive up, staff are waiting in golf carts to guide you to your site & even help with setup. We were nervous about fitting our big rig, but pull-through site #17 made it flawless," reports Nadiehsda B. about Oak Lake RV Resort.

Hookup reliability: Electrical service can vary between sites. "Fueled up here and realized it was a loves rv overnight. Easy in and out with all the basics plus a nice convenient store and fuel," notes Jennifer H. about Love's RV Stop-Demotte IN 394.

Leveling requirements: Site preparation varies by location. "We pulled in around 4:30 in the evening. The sight was spacious with plenty of room in between sites. The sight had 50 amp electric hook ups but no water or sewer connections, and we knew that going in. We had a back in sight #69. There was plenty of space on all sides," reports Chris M. about Indiana Dunes State Park Campground.
