Best RV Parks & Resorts near Bismarck, IL

Several RV campgrounds provide options for motorhome travelers within driving distance of Bismarck, Illinois. Prairie Pines Campground in Rantoul offers full hookup sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections on level gravel pads. The campground maintains pull-through sites that can accommodate larger rigs and remains open year-round. "Sites are close together so little privacy. At least one site even next to dumpster. Seems they crammed too many sites into campground," notes one visitor about spacing at area parks. D & W Lake RV Park in Champaign features big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp service, while Turkey Run State Park Campground across the state line in Indiana provides electric sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp options surrounded by mature trees.

Seasonal considerations affect campground availability, with some parks operating only from April through October. Most RV parks in the region maintain dump stations near entrance areas, though access can become congested during busy departure mornings. Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds, with better coverage at parks closer to Interstate 74 and more limited connectivity at state recreation areas. According to one visitor, "Our site was a pull through full hookup site that was very level." Prophetstown State Park near West Lafayette offers spacious sites with full hookups in the Spruce Loop, while its electric-only sites in Savanna Loop provide less shade but remain suitable for larger motorhomes. Pet policies generally allow leashed dogs throughout most campgrounds, though restrictions apply in buildings and on certain trails.

    Crawfordsville KOA

    Nice KOA

Shade, grass, and gravel sites. A lot better than most KOAs. They ask that you not put outdoor rugs on grass; no problem as grass is nice. Sites 1-10 are your best bet for Starlink if that’s what you have; best opening through tree canopy of the northern sky. Pet friendly; counted three cats and a dog in the office when I checked in. Was given the option of choosing my site out of the seven available for my reservation. A mix of long term residents and travelers; some of the long term resident sites were a little junky.

    Earl Park

    City park

This is a small town park. Sites all grass. Most are only 20 amp a few have 30 amp. No fire rings. Playground is huge. Sites have water, dump station on way out. $25 for campers $15 for tents. Honor system pay at Festival Office in center of park. Sites are first come first served. 30 amp sites in center fill up fast. 31ft toy hauler. AC ran fine off 20amp.

Cecil M Harden Lake Raccoon State Recreation Area

    Plenty of fun!

Raccoon State Recreation Area | Cecil M Harden Lake is located in the heart of historic covered bridge country just 50 miles West of Indianapolis. The campground is surrounded by the 2,060 acre Cecil M Harden reservoir offering boating (boat rental), fishing and a large swimming beach with concessions and amenities. The campground is extremely well maintained with many sites sheltered by tree canopy ranging from non-electric, 30 amp, to 50 amp. Fresh water is available at fill stations and a spacious dump station area make for easy disposal. Many of the sites are not level so chose wisely to suit your needs. Easy beach access from the campground via a paved walk/bike path, well stocked camp store at the entrance to the campground, well maintained bath house facilities, active interpretive Naturalist programs, and numerous hiking trail opportunities round out the amenities. This is a beautiful campground; and if you like to explore...take a drive through the area and enjoy the many historic towns, covered bridges and roller mills throughout the county.

    Prophetstown State Park Campground

    Campground with lots to offer

This is a really nice campground with many shaded sites. We camped in a pull-through full hookup site that was very level. There is a 5-mile paved bike trail that runs through the park. The trail winds through a prairie to where the Wabash and Tippecanoe Rivers meet. Very pretty ride. The state park has a water park and a working farm.

    Turkey Run Canoe & Camping

    Close Quarters

The manager Tina and her husband are great people but the camp sites are to close together and we would not camp here again. The sites are difficult to get into and although they allow one car on the site there is barely room for that one car. The electric is shared with another site which could be a problem if you have the same type of service since there is only one 50 amp, one 30 amp, and one 20 amp service per hook up. There is portable water at the entrance but the road coming and going to the campsite is only wide enough for one rig and you will block traffic while you are filling up. The campsite is backed up to a major highway so it is loud by nature. We choose to enjoy our stay but will not be back. I hope this helps you!

    Turkey Run State Park Campground

    Terrific campground and state park

We stayed here this weekend and had a terrific time. The weather was very hot but there is a river to tube and canoe in to keep you cool. We stayed at site #35. It is in a very quiet, off the main road, in a circle, in full shade. It’s is very close to the restroom but a distance from the camp store and dumpster. The site was clean and well equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. The site is very uneven. It definitely sloops to the back corner. It’s was difficult to level our camper but we got it in the end. The site was huge but given the unevenness it would be difficult for tents. The campground is family friendly and was quiet at night. There is a lot to do at this state park. We hiked the #3 and #5 trails and it took us about 2 hours. It was very busy but everyone was very polite. It was a great stay all around.

    Turkey Run State Park Campground

    Large campground with spacious sites

This campground was reasonably priced, had clean facilities and quite unusual and intesting hiking nearby. There are multiple trails and some quite challenging ones. No water hookups at the site but all except the "youth sites" had 110, 30, and 50 amp power. I was able to charge my ev without issue. Sites tried from all concrete to a dusty dirt and rock tent area, and all had old wood picnic tables. While the hiking was incredible, the maps of the trails were poor and not up to date, with some trails not on map at all. On one trail part of it went through box canyons up an active, though trickling, stream bed.
