Loved our stay!

This is a lovely campground with large dispersed camp sites. There is an on-site restaurant that has stayed busy, and we are here the second weekend of April. Cafe also sells firewood when in stock and rents out boats and kayaks. John, the host is very sweet! Electric only with a dump station. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained, I like that size of the showers. Fishing is good. A beautiful weekend for our first time here.

Good, peaceful, quiet

Loved this stay. Walking trails all around the campground, all sites close to or on the lake. Little restaurant, ice cream, and kayak rental place on site through October 17. Good fishing spot. Several playgrouds. So quiet and peaceful. Recommend Grey Squirrel sites 15-27

Great family friendly environment

The park campground and all of its facilities were very clean. The park employees were friendly and super helpful. My family had a great time fishing. The lake was well stocked and maintained. We will definitely go back.

Hidden Gem in East Central Illinois

I can’t believe I didn’t know about this place until this year. The walk in tent sites are in a shady woody area and with lake views. Clean pit toilets, serene setting, and a really cool hike to an abandoned observatory. 🙌🏕

Great family spot- relaxing

Stayed for 3 nights and loved it. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because it was electric only. There are 4 total camp areas in the campground portion of the park. Grey Squirrel and Fox Squirrel are the RV sites and Grey and Fox Tent are the tent areas. Tents are allowed in the RV area as well. Each site has a gravel pad, grill/fire pit and picnic table, as well as electric hook up. There is one dump station near the campground entrance, and water fill there or in a few locations in the campground. There is not water and sewer hookup at each pad. Some spots have decks, but not all, and the handicap accessible spots are paved with concrete. All spots in Fox Squirrel are landlocked. In Grey Squirrel, odd numbered sites 15-25 back up to the lake. All the Grey Squirrel sites have trail access to several docks and a couple of boat launches. There are a few out house/bathrooms for each area. There is at least one communal shower house. There are playgrounds throughout the park and a concession building near the campground entrance. You have to get firewood at the concession building to burn in the park. You can also rent kayaks, purchase bait, get info, and buy snacks. The concessions has recently changed hands and is now run by the same company who handles Moraine View. Overall it’s a great little park. Nice hiking, lots of quiet fishing options. No swimming or motor boats. We will go back for sure!

An awesome and family friendly campground!

A wonderful small campground with clean shower house. A great lake for fishing and kayaking. A hidden gem in central Illinois with a great little family owned restaurant. The staff and camp host are super friendly and helpful!

Perfectly primitive, idyllic environment

Love, love, love this primitive campground! It has well-maintained walk-in primitive sites. The sites are close to the water for fishing, bathrooms are kept fairly clean, sites are spaced out enough to not feel crowded and it’s alsays been pretty quiet when we’ve gone.

This is a basic, no frills, camping experience.

Peaceful and fun camping

I visited this park in July of 2017 and July of 2007, it was loads of fun both times. There are great sites for both RVs and tent campers, fairly good fishing and hiking and clean restrooms. The thing that sets this place apart from other State Park Campgrounds is the concession stand and operators. Both times I stayed there they held a dinner special, RibEye sandwiches and walleye to choose from at a very reasonable price and had a band playing from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The bands were good and the food was great. If your in the mood for a camping weekend that is not so rustic this is a good time.
