About

Bureau of Land Management

Welcome to Henry's Lake BLM Dispersed area, a hidden gem in Idaho that offers a serene and scenic escape. This spot is perfect for those who love a bit of adventure and don't mind roughing it a little. The area is known for its breathtaking views of Henry's Lake and the surrounding mountains, making it a favorite among campers who appreciate natural beauty.

The camping spots here are dispersed, meaning you won't find designated sites or many amenities. However, what it lacks in facilities, it more than makes up for in tranquility and stunning landscapes. Visitors have raved about the peaceful atmosphere and the incredible sunsets and sunrises over the lake. It's a fantastic place to unwind and soak in the beauty of nature.

One of the standout features of this area is the easy access to the lake for fishing and kayaking. There are plenty of spots along the shoreline where you can set up camp and enjoy the water. Some campers have mentioned the abundance of fallen trees, which are great for gathering firewood. Just remember to practice fire safety and follow any local regulations.

While the road leading to the lake can be a bit bumpy, most visitors agree that the journey is worth it. Once you arrive, you'll find a mix of open fields and wooded areas, providing a variety of settings for your campsite. The area is also a great base for exploring nearby Yellowstone, with the West Gate just a short drive away.

Keep in mind that this is a primitive camping area, so you'll need to bring your own water and be prepared to pack out all your trash. Also, bear safety is crucial here, so make sure to store your food properly and bring bear spray.

Overall, Henry's Lake BLM Dispersed area offers a unique and rewarding camping experience for those willing to venture off the beaten path. Whether you're here for the fishing, the views, or just some peace and quiet, you're sure to leave with some unforgettable memories.

Not many spots, lake is nice

Granted we got in late, but there really weren't any visible turnoffs or clear places to camp. We got to the far corner of the lake and found a clearing by a fence close to the lake. Lovely view and very secluded, but even on the drive out around the other half of the lake we saw no clear camping spots.

Absolutely Lovely

It’s a bit of a drive off the beaten path, and you may find yourself thinking “is it really out here?” but it is. I promise. There are lots of dispersed sites on the way off of the paved road, but my partner and I stayed right next to Henry’s Lake with a gorgeous view. This was probably my favorite camping spot of the summer. We went in June while visiting Yellowstone. The weather was a little cold, so we made a fire and burned sage brush. The lake was swarming with non-bitting midges. They were quite literally everywhere and you could hear them flying, but they left us alone and we’re not an issue.

Peaceful, Scenic

Very easy to get to, typed in Henry’s Lake in Google. Along the road there are plenty of camping spots, some amongst the trees and some in open fields. Tons of fallen trees around for firewood. Fire rings near sites. ATV trails and easy boat access along the lake for fishing and kayaking.

Beautiful and quiet

The road off the main road is rough and full of potholes, BUT once you’re down on the waterfront it smooths out and the spots are fairly smooth. The dogs are loving it and the bird watching is awesome!

Great spot on the Lake

Pulled in just before dark after drive through Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Beautiful level spot right by the boat launch. Didn't even have to unhook. View of the lake and mountains in the back ground. Great spot!

Great spot for visiting Yellowstone!

Follow the road all the way to the lake. Large parking area. Not busy on a COLDD October night, but can imagine it would fill up more during summer months. Great place to camp before heading in to Yellowstone. Remember bear safety including proper food storage. BRING BEAR SPRAY!

Great Spot Near Yellowstone

Great spot about 30 minutes from the Yellowstone West Gate. Beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Lots of spots but we were the only ones here in late October! Good walking area for the dog. Little bit of a bumpy ride down to the camping area but not too bad for our Sprinter.

Incredible

Stayed here for two nights while exploring Yellowstone. Yes it is about a 30 minute drive outside of the west entrance, but absolutely worth it. Both days I didn’t get there until the evening and was still able to find a wonderful spot right in front of the lake. Neighbors were always super nice, can buy firewood from the rv park up the road. Would definitely return

Super quiet, super scenic

We got into Henry’s Lake Dispersed area around 6pm on a Saturday night. We stayed to the left of when the road splits, because that’s where the pit toilets were. There were 2-3 spots left, everyone spaced out nice let. Toilets were super clean, super stocked. There’s are a lot of bugs at night, but they are mayflies, not mosquitoes. 10/10 would recommend!

Peaceful

Got here on a Tuesday afternoon and there were quite a few people here already but found a nice spot right in front of the lake. We loved it here, it was quiet for the most part and the lake was beautiful. Read in a previous review that the bugs were bad, and they definitely were but I would still recommend this place!

Super quiet stay!

I stayed for 2 nights and upon arriving on a Tuesday evening, there were 2-3 spots left. There’s no official spots since it’s dispersed but several pull outs along the dirt road. There are 2 clean vault toilets that were stocked. Free to stay but no amenities other than toilet. Cows are free roaming around here so you will hear them all times of the day. Bugs were bad on some days but if you have any time of wind or fan, it wasn’t an issue. Had 3-4 bars LTE via AT&T. Only 30 minutes from west Yellowstone. Definitely would stay here again, felt very safe!

BUGS BEWARE

We arrived late in the night and as we were setting up our tent was swarmed by bugs, definitely the time of year. You are also right on the lake. There were two separate bathroom stalls which were both clean. Nice area if it weren’t for bugs! The road down to where you camp is well maintained gravel. We left as soon as we woke up because of the bugs.

Great spot for boon docking

The road in is Gravel and 2 miles from a paved road. There are 6-15 campsites at this location and the maximum RV length is 45 feet. You may stay 14 at Henry Lake BLM.

Convenient location to West Yellowstone(about 20-min) and great staging area for exploring the national park.
