      North Shore Landing

      Gem of a place

Being next to railroad tracks it has a railroad motif you can actually stay in a renovated caboose. If that’s not your thing there’s plenty of tent sites, cabins, RVs, and RV sites just a few of the many amenities are the activity center, the swimming pool, beach access to Lake Oconee ,laundromat, and dog park. There’s also plenty of helpful stuff ready to drive you down to the pool or continually working on upkeep of the property very nice. We were just passing through but I have no problem staying here again. Wonderful place.

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

So close to me and I love it.

Lived in Georgia my whole life and yet my first time to Stone Mountain was literally three years ago. Now we have an annual pass and go all the time. This place is world renowned for its fireworks and laser show but you have to go off the pavement to truly fall in love with Stone Mountain! This place is great for everyone. I mean everyone, from free runners to hikers and all you folk that like to “camp” in your RVs. Visit this place anytime of year and you will not be disappointed. Apparently it’s rated #1 as the best place to camp in Georgia. I’m more into the nature only kind of camping but that’s not everyone’s cup a tea. Stone Mountain has something for everyone.

      North Shore Landing

      Beautiful Lake and Friendly People

Located on Lake Oconee, North Shore Landing is a KOA/TRA campground. There is a dock to fish from, and a boat launch if you want to go out. There's some very large catfish in the lake, 30+ lbs. There's also bass, blue gill and crappie. The campground is per friendly, full hook-up, with WiFi (pay for premium). There is a pool, clubhouse and 24 hour laundry that's $3 per load, w&d. There's a dog park, basketball and cornhole. Propane fill and dump station.

      Shady Grove Campground

      Great views

We are at spot 97 and was suppose to get 44. The host at the front office gave us a different spot that would be easier access to our 40ft 5th wheel. The view is fantastic. We brought 2 dogs which they enjoyed the scenery. They are firm on making sure pet owners have their leash on and do not free roam. A lot of deer just walking around. Bathrooms are in good shape. We plan on staying a week. No Wi-Fi so we are using hotspots on our cells. We have Verizon and showing 2 bar LTE.

      Fort Yargo State Park Campground

      Relaxation in The Woods

Fort Yargo is in the Winder Ga area and is close to Helen, Jefferson, Athens and Atlanta. Entering the campground is a nice paved road and leads to tent camping, cabins, yurts and RV sites.

Very clean park and has Historical area, playground, tennis court, bike and hike trails. Not to mention beach and boating area.

Picnics, camping, boating biking and camping or just day use areas. Pet friendly and all around great park.

There is a small general store, but you are so close to everything if you need it, it's there.

Gread for the Georgia Bulldog crowd as its less then 30 minutes!

      I recommend this park highly.

      Indian Springs

      Nice campground - Site 19

1st time for us to Indian Springs. Very clean and well maintained. Site 19 was on a less populated loop and a long stretch of woods on the "driver" side thus no neighbors.  Site was very easy to back into.

We stayed in March, so when the leaves are off the trees, you can see the lake. Kinda doubtful you would during the summer. Gray water dump is very close. Bathhouse was about a 2 minute walk, but didn't use it.

I'd stay on this section again, but maybe across the street. or preferably down by the water.  There's a short drop off behind the fence by the fire ring, that the dog keeps trying to go down and getting stuck - imagine little ones may love that area.

The town of Flovilla is right outside the gates, with  some shops and a nice restaurant. Dollar General is 5 mins away. Dauset Trails Nature Preserve is about 15 minutes away, but note pets aren't allowed. High Falls State park is about 15 minutes away with good hiking trails. Plus boat, and paddle board rentals.

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

Awesome grounds with basic to full-hookups. Pet friendly.

Awesome grounds in a family and pet friendly atmosphere. Neighbors were kind and helpful. Very quiet and peaceful time. Walking the grounds was nice and hilly. There’s also trails in between areas and around the campground. If you like the water, bring your trunks, kayaks, and poles.

    Guide to Monroe

Monroe's forests and lakes provide multiple options for pet friendly camping near Monroe, Georgia, with most sites situated between 650 and 850 feet elevation. The region experiences hot, humid summers with average July temperatures around 90°F, while winter nights can drop to freezing. Natural water features throughout the area create popular swimming and fishing spots for campers and their four-legged companions.

    What to do

Hiking with pets: Fort Yargo State Park Campground offers multiple trails where dogs can join their owners. "Great swimming and hiking," notes Barbara C., with the park providing access to wooded paths suitable for leashed pets of all fitness levels.

Mountain biking access: Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground maintains dedicated mountain biking trails separate from hiking paths. "The park has a nice hiking trails and bikes trails, dog friendly," reports Winston M., making it possible for campers to enjoy cycling while partners walk dogs on separate trails.

Water activities: At Shady Grove Campground, lake access makes swimming and paddling popular for visitors and their pets. One camper notes, "Nice wooded campground on Lake Lanier, very spacious sites, many on the lake," providing ample water recreation options.

    What campers like

Private walk-in sites: Fort Yargo State Park offers secluded spots away from the main campground. "If you're like me and appreciate a bit of privacy when camping, the walk-in campsites at Fort Yargo are the place to go. Just a short 1-2 minutes walk from your car and bathrooms, but you feel much more secluded than the campsites in the regular campground," explains Amalia K.

Wildlife viewing: Campers at Pine Lake RV Campground enjoy natural encounters with local fauna. "Set back in the woods on a beautiful pond. Deer roaming everywhere," writes Todd L., highlighting opportunities for animal observation beyond just pet interactions.

Clean facilities: Newton Factory Shoals Recreation Area maintains functional bathroom facilities for campers. "They have fire pits and a main bath house with a shower. I will say that you should probably bring flipflops for the shower because it doesn't look like it's been cleaned in a year but it's nice having a option for one," notes Addison C., providing practical perspective on available amenities.

    What you should know

Alcohol regulations: Some campgrounds near Monroe enforce strict alcohol policies. At Shady Grove Campground, one camper warns: "Nice but Nazis. Nice campground. If you enjoy having a beer while camping don't come here. Beautiful day, beer in a solo cup playing cards with my wife at a picnic table. We were not making noise, nobody complained about us. Ranger pulls up and gave us both tickets."

Swimming restrictions: Not all water features permit swimming. High Falls State Park Campground has specific limitations according to Savannah W., who notes: "We had a great stay, though crowded and entering the water was prohibited due to leaches."

Site selection tips: At Brooks Lake Campground, campers find various site options for those traveling with pets. "Great little place to camp. Beautiful lake. Bathrooms and showers are on site," says Ali P., though site selection requires careful planning for those needing space for pets.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: High Falls State Park Campground offers dedicated play areas for children. "This campground is great if you have kids. The playground is centrally located. Trails are easy to get to and the falls are a nice sight," recommends Bille W.

Beach areas: Some sites provide waterfront access suitable for families with pets. At Newton Factory Shoals, "They have many water front campsites with a lot of room. They have a box platform for your tent. It could easily fit my 8 person tent," reports Addison C.

Spacing between sites: Look for campgrounds with adequate separation between camping spots. At Hard Labor Creek State Park, "The campground is not cramped at all and most of the sites are spread apart to provide privacy," notes George & Patty C., making it easier to manage pets without disturbing neighbors.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Prepare for uneven terrain at some campsites. One RVer at Shady Grove noted, "Only reason for the 4 stars is our site was not level, took some work to level our rig."

Site access: Stone Mountain Park Campground offers varying site access options. "The roads are a little hilly and twisting but if you have a big rig and go slow you will be fine. All the campsite driveways are angled so backing in is pretty easy," explains Nancy W., providing useful information for RVers traveling with pets.

Hookup availability: Many pet-friendly campgrounds offer varying hookup options. "Large sites, lake view, walk up sites, showers," notes Pamela E. about Fort Yargo State Park, with multiple options available for different camping setups and requirements.
