Several RV campgrounds surround Monroe, Georgia, each providing varying levels of hookup service. Pine Lake RV Campground in Bishop features full hookups including 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on spacious sites that accommodate large rigs. The well-maintained Madison RV Park offers similar amenities with both 30-amp and 50-amp options. Stone Mountain Park Campground, approximately 30 miles from Monroe, provides RV sites with water and electric hookups in a wooded setting near the lake. Riverside Estates RV Park in Covington maintains year-round availability with full hookup sites for motorhomes. "The sites are nicely maintained and the bath houses and laundry are immaculate and private," noted one camper about Pine Lake.

Access conditions vary between properties, with most parks featuring pull-through sites that simplify arrival for larger motorhomes. Many campgrounds maintain gated entry systems for security, with several requiring fob access. Dump stations are available at Pine Lake, Stone Mountain, and Atlanta South RV Resort, while all offer trash service. Laundry facilities exist at Madison RV Park and Pine Lake, though limited at other locations. Reservations are essential during peak periods, particularly autumn weekends when occupancy reaches capacity. Shoal Creek Campground

Beautiful lake front AND lake view camping spots; friendly staff

This was our first RV camping experience -- testing out a new pop-up camper during a two (2) night stay. Reservations were made through Campspot -- about $120 with fees. Communication with the main number for the campground went through the Margaritaville Campground nearby. Separate direct lines to the camp office and security were provided after arrival. Overall communication was good with both, and the staff were always polite.

We skipped our first night reservation due to high winds. We had concerns about damaging the pop-up roof during first-time setup. We decided, instead, to visit the campsite we'd reserved and pick up our paperwork. Site 56 was our first choice, and we were NOT happy with it. I selected the wrong size on the Campspot website -- a 20' campsite. It was not big enough to park both the camper AND the tow vehicle, AND the camper would've been facing away from the lake anyway with water and electrical hookups.

The next morning, we called to arrange for a different site. The camp office was very accommodating and blocked off four (4) available sites to choose from. We moved to site 55, which was a large circular pull through. Probably too big for our pop-up camper, but also probably too close to trees for a larger trailer or even a 5th wheel. The campsite was large, with the picnic table, fire ring and sand pit away from the camper. There was lots of room to set up and enjoy the beautiful lake views.

Electric and water hookups worked just fine. The camp office lent a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter free of charge. We had no issues with either service. The showers and bathrooms were about 2-3 sites down and up the road from 55, and they were reasonably clean for what they were.

I WAS disappointed that the main gate was broken, and the key code locks on the showers and bathrooms were duct taped shut. However, I did not feel that the campground was all that insecure, and there did not appear to be a lot of traffic coming through. Security DID come through overnight on Sunday morning -- probably due to some noise at 1-2 of the campsites across the cove from ours. Things quieted down after. The camp host was cleaning bathrooms on Sunday morning, and he was very polite when we talked. I saw him regularly coming through to check on campsites and clean up.

Overall, we liked this campground and will be going back. I will likely request to scout out some different sites in person before selecting one, as I don't want to be in a position to have to give up my spot when it's very busy.

      Shady Grove Campground

      Great lakefront spot

We stayed at site #82 pull through. $30/night. 30' hybrid travel trailer. We will come back here again

      Pros:

      • easy to level trailer
      • excellent lakefront view (many of the sites have lakefront views)
      • private with plenty of tree cover
      • quiet
      • large site area
      • friendly gate person
      • good cell reception with t-mobile
      • clean restrooms
      • good water pressure

      Cons:

      • 30 amp issues on pole with EMS readings. 50 amp was fine
      • steep hill to get to the lake

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

      One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

      Lake Sinclair Campground

Good Location for Ocmulgee Mounds Visit

Lake Sinclair, GA: (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

Summary: I have stopped by to camp for 4 years. This time we stayed in the electric, Loop A which has 5 sites. There were other users there who were concerning. One was what looks to be a homeless extended stay occupant in a trailer. The other was a tent camping couple who decided to camp with their tents in the RV only area. That said, the lower loops, Loop A and Loop D are more visible to the camp host, thus a safer feeling. If you don’t want electric hookup, those loops are a nicer area of the campground.

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer with a desire for a campsite that has at least some visual privacy - after the trailer is in the spot.)

Overall Rating: 1.5 for the electric sites - they are not necessarily attractive, out in the open, and no visual separation between sites. They are moderately spaced. The non-electric sites(no generators allowed as per website) area 4 rating. There are spacious and well spaced sites in the Loop B. Many sites are set back from the campground loop road.
Price 2023: $ 10.5 for elect site & 4.5 for non-electric site w interagency pass Usage during visit: Very light - Thanksgiving Site Privacy: More privacy in non electric sites Site Spacing: 5 decent sized sites in the electric loop. Non- electric loop has very large sites.
Site surface: Gravel Reservations: First come, first serve.
Campground Noise: Very quiet. Only one other camper Road Noise: Too far from a main road to be an issue. From electric sites and from some non electric sites the traffic in the access road can be heard.
Through Traffic in campground: Not through campground. There is on the access road to access the lake. Boaters use this road along with other day users. Electric Hookup: Loop A, sites 1 - 5 only Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: Yes, just following the check in station on the right. Potable Water Available: At electric sites. Generators: Not allowed. This is a shame since this campground is so lightly used. Bathroom/ Shower House: Yes - In Loop B (services both Loop A and B). Hot water worked only in the woman’s shower. The hot water in the shower in Loop D works fine and is in a little nicer facility. Drive to that one for a shower. These are pretty old buildings, but pretty clean. Bathroom only house in the day use area is new and nicer to be in. Pull Throughs: Site 5 is a pull through. Cell Service (AT&T): 1 to 2 bars. Setting: In a deciduous forest. Lower loop( non-electric) has a lakeside (or two)trailer sites . Weather: Cool and partial sun. Bugs: None Solar: Depends on the site and probably none when there is foliage. Host: Yes. Located in D-loop .
Rig size: Not suited for big rigs.
Sites: Loop A is the Electric loop with 5 sites. Loop A is not so great. There are beautiful extra large sites in non-electric/no generator lower Loop B. Loop C has been “temporarily”, as per signage, closed for at least 4 years. Loop D has smaller sites, many of which look to be tent sites. Some of these sites are nicely located close to the lakeside in both B and D.

      Twin Lakes RV Park

A place to park with no bath, no amenities and mostly long term residents

The 5 star reviews are perplexing. We're not new to RVing and have stayed in plenty of lovely mom& pop parks. This is a family owned campground, but it is basically a parking lot with hookups for people who live there long term. Our site was on the side of a road about 50 yards away from the Dump Station. It was referred to as a premium, pull through rather than what it is... a pull to the side of the road. There was no grass or picnic table. I'll post pictures that show the condition of our site and how close the spots are to one another. The pictures online and YouTube videos of this park are very deceiving. The grassy areas beside and between the lakes can only be accessed by walking though other camper's sites.

** Use caution navigating the park because the roads at the back have no way to turn around if you get back there.

Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground

      Great little state park

Real friendly staff. Nicely laid out, but I guess could be challenging for really big rigs. W & E with dump station and pretty good facilities

Cell coverage a little challenging but managed to get enough download for Visible to stream Netflix. Too many trees to break out Starlink

      Trails are a fun walk.

Moved to site 47(Pull-Thru) but due to road slope pull-thru is un-usable. Lower numbered sites(less than 30) appear somewhat better. Empty camp ground host side byhind 47 cannot be used unless site 47 is emprty due to sloping road. One single use dump station. One campground host presently in the park- their site was not marked. Appears that most sites are back-in and set sideways to a hillside and lakefront leaving very little level space for chairs. Fire rings are frequently located 12-20 feet away from picnic table and 3 to 9 feet below site level on a slope. Reservation Software used by office was down upon Saturday arrival with no IT help until Monday- two days away leaving office staff frustrated and using their own phone to access the reservation system customers use instead of management side of software. Staff stated it goes down frequently with no IT support on weekends. Six bathhouses in park. Bathhouse nearest beach closed awaiting replacement of fixtures after renovation. Shower has outdated fixtures- several shower heads had significant mineral deposits restricting flow. Men's side closed at another bathhouse. Many shower stalls had no hook or fixture to hang a towel or clothing. Several showers had broken shower valves making them unusable. Stayed 9 nights and did not see anyone working on bathhouses. Beach area parking is limited to 6 or 7 spaces and one handicap space however, there is a larger parking lot a little further away. Bathhouse showers have a pull string valve next to the shower head that had to be held down to get water with many strings broken, missing and too short to allow shorter people, children, or handicaped wheel-chair use. Some sites have precarious/dangerous sloping driveways for RVs to get into. Newly installed sites are near completion but they make sites very close together. Many sites do not have a fire pit and many do not have a grill. Many sites arer too small to park a second vhicle even if the camper is small. Parking on dirt or grass is prohibited by rules but appears to be selectively enforced. The campground has a boat ramp and reasonably large parking area. Extra careful site selection is warranted. Four docks in River Forks Park. Firewood is available at the office. CHECK-IN: 01:00 PM CHECK-OUT: 12:00 PM RIG: 42ft- 17,000 lb 5th Wheel"

      Don Carter State Park Campground

Love the view from our site 13

Really nice state park located at north end of Lake Lanier. Site 13 was great. Had woods and lake view. Paved pull through site with gravel pad for picnic and fire pit area. Plenty of room for camper, cars and boat trailer. Bathroom facilities were extremely clean, well lighted, no spiders or bugs, etc. Enjoyed fishing and kayaking. Nice beach and swim area, boat docks and 2 boat launch sites, playground, etc. Saw lots of deer and enjoyed walking some of the trails. Will plan a trip in cooler weather fall or spring. Camp hosts were helpful and visitor center staff were very nice. Great cell service too.

    Guide to Monroe

Monroe, Georgia camping destinations offer convenient access to state parks and private campgrounds within 30 miles of the city center. The region sits at approximately 910 feet elevation with humid subtropical climate conditions that allow for year-round camping. Winter overnight temperatures rarely drop below freezing, making extended season camping viable throughout much of the year.

    What to do

Hiking trails: Stone Mountain Park Campground provides multiple trail options around the base and to the summit of the 825-foot granite dome. "We saw a lot of beautiful wildlife while hiking," notes Jennifer T., who visited with family.

Fishing opportunities: Twin Lakes RV Park features two small lakes where fishing is permitted. "You can fish in the lake, but no swimming or kayaking," explains Alanna W., who enjoyed the relaxing setting with several swings overlooking the water.

Shopping excursions: Georgia RV Park provides a convenient base for outlet shopping. "Good option for anyone making a day of the Outlets," states JuJu D., who appreciated the park's friendly atmosphere despite sites being close together.

Mountain activities: Stone Mountain Park offers additional activities beyond camping. "There are tons of things to do from Golf, hiking, zoo, laser show, food and you can hike the mountain or take a ride to the top," shares Holly B., highlighting the variety of entertainment options.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Pine Lake RV Campground maintains exceptionally clean shower facilities. "Been coming here for years and can't say enough great stuff about the staff and the site. Clean shower houses, laundry facilities, full hook ups," reports Robert J.

Lake views: Several campers appreciate waterfront sites at Stone Mountain Park Campground. "My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site. There was a lot to see and do at Stone Mountain," writes Susan K., who only noted minor issues with trailer leveling.

Easy access: Atlanta-Marietta RV Park serves as a convenient location for Atlanta visitors. "I use this park strictly for sporting events as it's close by and is relatively quiet considering how close it is to the highway," explains Mike N., who frequents the park for Atlanta events.

Security features: Riverside Estates RV Park implements comprehensive security measures. "It is gated and there is a fob for everything for safety. It is a great place the manager here is awesome," notes Corey G., a long-term resident who appreciates the park's safety protocols.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds near Monroe require advance booking, especially during peak seasons. "Luckily they had one full hookup site left for us. You can book sites daily or monthly," mentions Alanna W. about Twin Lakes RV Park.

Length-of-stay considerations: Riverside Estates RV Park primarily serves longer-term guests. "Most people in here are long term week+, there are 4 areas, and one is a flood zone. They are still upgrading the park slowly but they are," explains Corey G., who has resided there over a year.

Site spacing: Atlanta-Marietta RV Park has limited site space. "The sites are TINY. No campfires allowed. Close to everything which is a plus, but if you want to actually camp then find somewhere else," cautions Myranda in her review.

Weekend operations: Some parks have limited office hours. "Who closes a RV camp on the weekends? Phone number reaches answering service. Pick a site," notes Grant B. about Jones RV Park, highlighting potential check-in challenges.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Stone Mountain Park Campground offers numerous family activities. "There's all kind of activities for the kids. They have free transportation within the park/campground area. Helpful staff too," shares Harvey B., though he notes sites are somewhat close together.

Consider activity options: Pine Lake RV Campground has limited children's entertainment. "If you're traveling with kids though-there's not much to do other than bike through campground or fish in the pond. But locally there are parks & playgrounds," advises Carey R.

Choose lakes with safety rules: Twin Lakes RV Park allows fishing but prohibits swimming, creating a controlled environment. "They have several swings overlooking the lake for a very relaxing view. You're allowed to fish in the lake, but no swimming or kayaking," explains Alanna W.

Pack entertainment: Atlanta South RV Resort offers basic family amenities. "Wi-Fi works great, pool was clean and good size. 1 bathhouse but it was well maintained," reports Kara A., who visited with her family for shopping at Tanger Outlets.

    Tips from RVers

Check site leveling: Many reviews mention leveling challenges at area campgrounds. "The only downfall was that the trailer needed a lot of leveling. But it was totally worth it," writes Susan K. about her Stone Mountain Park Campground stay.

Consider pull-through availability: Atlanta South RV Resort offers convenient pull-through sites. "It's a big park, lots of full time residents so there aren't a lot of spots open, at least during our stay. They seem to be pretty level spots, not much of a yard space," notes Kara A.

Verify dump station locations: Some parks require additional fees for dump services. "Some sewer sites, dump station cost an extra $10 on top of $50 fee. No other amenities to speak of," advises Anthony B. about Twin Lakes RV Park.

Ask about payment methods: Cash or check may be required at some locations. "They only take cash or check payments. They have a lot of grocery stores and restaurants pretty close so you don't have to travel far if you need anything," mentions Alanna W. about Twin Lakes RV Park.
