Located between Orlando and Daytona, our Central Florida RV Park is surrounded by state-owned preserve land, but is still only 5 miles from Sanford, FL. The campground has a total of 817 sites, 569 of which offer full hookups, and there are plenty of over-sized RV sites to accommodate big rigs and small RVs alike. Wekiva Falls RV Resort and campground also offers tent camping at our Orlando-area campground. Some sites are equipped with picnic tables and grills, while others have fire pits, and some are located far back in the woods. Wekiva Falls is a premiere RV Resort and campground destination ideally located in beautiful Sorrento, Florida between Daytona Beach and Orlando. Before Walt Disney came to the area in the 1970’s, Orlando was a sleepy town with an economy based on citrus and cattle. Since then, Orlando has blossomed into one of our nations most sought-after destinations. That’s why the founders decided to build Wekiva Falls right up to the road, in Sorrento, Florida. The founders wanted to be close enough to all the attractions and local shops, without being disturbed by the noise, or frustrated by the stop and go traffic. Sorrento, Florida is truly one of the last peaceful reserves in Central Florida. With its near-perfect mild temperatures that last all year-round. Built on over 100 acres, you’ll find the beauty of the great outdoors stretches in every direction, as far as the eye can see. At Wekiva Falls a beautiful beach awaits, winding trails call your name, and a variety of nearby wildlife dot the picture-perfect landscape.

I have to admit, when I first discovered Mill Creek RV Resort on our smartphone’s GPS, I had nothing but low expectations and when navigating to get to this seemingly RV road stand, all of the traffic and commercial real estate surrounding this place was just begging me to turn around and hightail it out of here. That was, until we decided to check out this RV parking spot. And we were somewhat pleasantly surprised by what we found. While easily not a destination, if your aim is to simply find comfortable, affordable and safe accommodations to roll up your mobile living room for the night, then (especially for the price), you won’t be disappointed.
To begin with, the community and neighbors you will meet are incredibly welcoming and the owners / management couldn’t be more hospitable. This place on the one hand has a small neighborhood feel (because it is partly carved out of a residential area) and on the other, feels like a semi-decent nature preserve where RV’s aren’t jam packed next to one another. Sure, it’s tight in a few places, but all-in-all, one feels safe and secure here and offered a number of pretty great and new amenities. And if you don’t have an RV, no worries, the good folks at Mill Creek RV Resort will rent you one of their newly built park models.
Mill Creek RV Resort offers a number of amenities, including: complete RV hook-ups (20 / 30 / 50 electric amp, water and sewage lines) with pull-through and back-in flat concrete slab sites, picnic tables, heated in-ground pool complete with lounge chairs and umbrellas, recreation hall with ping pong tables, coin-operated laundry facilities, very clean restroom and shower facilities, kid’s playground w/ slide, doggie park (one for small and another for large), mail center, cable TV access, free WiFi access (near the office only though) as well as indoor and outdoor games (e.g. horse shoes, shuffle board, corn hole), propane refill station, LP gas, cable TV access and even sheds for extra storage.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a handful: (1) This location puts you within short driving distance to Walt Disney World, Universal, Seaworld and a bunch of other family-friendly entertainment options; (2) When you get tired of paying for overpriced amusement park food or can’t muster enough strength to plan your next meal from the confines of what might be available in your RV fridge, then venture out to one of these nearby eateries: Coqui Snacks, Sol de Borinquen Bakery Restaurant & Deli or Dolce Bakery and Café; and (3) If you brought a kayak or canoe, I highly recommend launching in nearby Kissimmee Lakefront Park, where if you go to the far eastern side, you can cast a line and catch some pretty good fish.
Happy Camping!
We enjoy this park a lot because it has so much to offer in the park, nearby, and we often see our friends here each winter. They have approximately 850 sites depending on the tortoises (sometimes they get a whole spot if their best is there). They are adding about 180 sites on the south side of the park. Full hook ups, generous yards, decent landscaping. There are some permanent structures, mostly rentals and the cabins. There are some personal sites as well. The park is about 2.63 miles all the way around the outer loop. Sometimes the cows from next door get loose and come visit. Sometimes there are alligators underneath RVs.
With so many guests they also have a gate guard shack thing and lots of staff members. They have dark green polos ride around on golf carts. They are super friendly. Most of them are RVers at the park as well.
They have many sections. A- Lots of pull throughs B- Giant Field where the kids play C-Not sure where this section is... D- Jungle, Secluded, Private, also with snakes but a lot more shade E/F/G- Normal RV Park in the grass, some shade in some parts. H- Residents of the park and some staff I- Residents and long term guests.
Getaway Cabins- they are adorable from the outside, they look massive compared to an RV.
Cell signals: This park is in Clermont, FL and it’s not a huge town but decent sized town. There isn’t great cell service. The park is further from a tower and there are so many RVers in the area that don’t count towards the population, it becomes a bandwidth issue. This park does have some kind of DSL for long term contracts. They have WiFi for a few throughout the park, and in the Club House they have better WiFi.
They have: 2 Pools 1 Hot Tub Mini Golf Tennis Courts Pickle Ball Courts Shuffle Board Club House Mail Room Camp Store A small Lake with Kayak rental Alligators Sand Hill Cranes Tortoises A Garden Basketball Kids play room and play area Arcade Gym Several pretty ponds and a giant lagoon
Most of all we come here repeatedly because we love to see our friends and being a member we can all stay for free.
We recorded several videos about Thousand Trails Orlando:
Well maintained RV resort with short term guests and long term residents. All folks were very hospitable and grass spots were relatively level! Nice shade and public areas available. We will return on our trip back through Ocala!
What’s in a city, you ask? I would think organization, solid utilities, an infrastructure, stated rules and a semblance of community. If that’s the definition, then I guess Orange City RV Resort lives up to that moniker. As soon as you turn into this RV enclave, located just a stone’s throw from the major I4 highway, just due north of Orlando, this place will immediately impress you with it’s very organized and structured way that it lays out its design, from grid-like, well-paved streets and well-lit infrastructure to the outsized number of amenities you will discover here. If ease of access and turn-key entrance is on your check-list than OC RV has you covered.
Back to those amenities – here you’ll discover some fairly premier RV resort living plus-ups from a heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi, state-of-the-art work-out facility, multi-purpose community center (complete with fully operational kitchen), onsite laundry, shower and restroom facilities, doggie park, recreation hall (bingo, billiards tables, game room, card tables, etc.), dedicated mail center, private small pond (catch& release only), a handful of picnic pavilions, BBQ grills, traditional RV hook-ups (electric, water and sewage) plenty of games such as bocce ball, horse shoes, petanque and, of course (in Florida, the prerequisite) shuffleboard. This place is pet-friendly and while I thought it was more of a retiree community, there were plenty of kids playing around the nice little park that they have.
OC RV Resort offers up a number of different types of sites to choose from between standard, premium and ‘super sites’ – as you can imagine, ranked by size as well as position within the resort. Of course, the more modest size comes with less land, compromised vistas and places you in very close proximity to neighbors. In addition to open back-in and pull-through RV sites and slots, you will discover that there are also a number of 1BR cottages and newly constructed mini-homes available for lease.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) The biggest tip I can give you is that literally only a 10 minute drive due west, you’ll hit arguably one of the best natural springs in all of Florida – Blue Spring State Park. And while there’s a small fee to get in, trust me, it’s worth it!; (2) To my fellow tent campers, if you’re reading this, my apologies, because OC RV Resort doesn’t offer up any spots to pitch your shelter for the night. That said, Blue Spring SP has some pretty awesome campsites that I would absolutely recommend, and if you want tent camping paradise, then just a bit further afield is Trimble Park Campground, arguably, some of the best tent camping in the entire state – for more details, you can read my reviews on both of these campgrounds on The Dyrt; and (3) As you would guess being located this close to Highway 4, you’ll come across all the usual franchise restaurant chains (Chili’s, Tijuana Flats, Perkins, Applebee’s, etc.), but if you’re looking for a nice meal, check out Riverwalk Pizzeria for some pretty great pies and fresh suds.
Happy Camping!
Orlando RV resort Thousand Trails is a huge resort. Lots of fun things to do. 2 pools, shuffle board, pickle ball courts mini golf. Nice spacious sites. Food trucks are a bonus. Ok now the cons….Fire ants galore. Slow internet with the exception of in the weee hours of the morning when everyone is sleeping. I have Verizon and Visible. Maybe others are faster. Laundry rooms need update $6 a load from start to finish. Old equipment. A towels came out with grease on it??? I would still come back.
The Orlando RV Resort(Thousand Trails) has over 1000 sites thanks to their newest section opening November 2020. To make reservations call 800-388-7788(TT members) or 888-481-6348(Non-members). This resort is impeccable with newly updated bath houses, laundry facilities, 2 pools, playground, camp store, mail room, pickle ball and tennis courts, new basketball court and dock to launch kayaks, boats or fish from. The resort sits off the main road far enough that it’s peaceful during the day and quiet at night. It’s only 30 minutes from most of the Orlando theme parks and shopping/restaurants are within 5-10 minutes. This park is fun to bike through and chat with neighbors, everyone we encountered was friendly. The older sites could use some resurfacing (as seen in photo).
Nice little Thousand Trails in Florida. Had full hookups at every site.
If you were any closer to Daytona Speedway, you’d be feeling the constant swoosh! of cars racing by non-stop. This RV pitstop conveniently located just off Florida’s main interstate highway I-95 and just due north of its second most well-driven highway 4 (the gateway to Orlando), you’ll discover Daytona RV Speedway, which is just a few hundred yards walk to the reason likely you’ve come here in the first place – the Daytona 500 (or any of the other spectacles that call this car track home). And if you are just passing by, then Daytona RV Speedway offers a quick and convenient place for you to drop anchor for the night.
Apart from its easy access and proximity to the Daytona Speedway, you’ll enjoy the flat, well-laid out pet-friendly RV park here along with all of its amenities: the typical RV hook-ups (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage), 80’ (max) pull-through sites, on-site mini-mart / store, WiFi& Cable, restroom & bathhouse facilities (from the 80’s but clean nonetheless), firewood and propane (for purchase), coin-operated laundry as well as scattered picnic tables and BBQ grills. As for the campus itself, the RV slots have pretty decent space between them with just OK shade (with an odd tree here and there).
Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) If you find yourself lucky enough to be here on the weekend, you’ll want to check out Daytona Flea & Farmers Market conveniently located right across the street from Daytona RV Speedway; (2) While you couldn’t find a place more heavily trafficked in the entire state of Florida, in just a short 20 minute drive further west, you can discover Tiger Bay State Forest, which has an amazing hiking trail called Buncombe Hill Trailhead that’s a nice distraction from this otherwise concrete jungle; (3) As you’re a stone’s throw away from Daytona Beach, arguably, one of the best beaches in the state, if not the country, you’ll want to hit one of these ‘drive-on’ white sand beach destinations – but get there early!; and (4) While you are surrounded by a ton of franchise restaurant chain eateries like Cracker Barrel, BJ’s, Tijuana Flats and Waffle House, I highly recommend Double Barrel Grill, which functions as one part whiskey distillery and also operates a shooting range – who says you can’t shoot and eat your meal too?!
Happy Camping!
This is a Thousand trails Trails collection. Nice size park. We stayed for a couple of days as we prepped for our trip to the Northeast. One thing that separates them for the other campgrounds is the unique style they have of getting you to your spot. You follow a person to your spot and they then stretch a rope for you to back along to make sure your at the farthest from one side to give both you and the next site all the space allotted to your site. Nice touch.
Sites are all full hook up.
Att and T-Mobile Hotspots and phones were perfect, no issues.
We did not use the laundry and the pool but both looked clean and well kept. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Road noise was heard during the day by late in the evening things quieted down nicely.
Easy in and out for any size rig.
We leaded a spot in this RV park for 17 months before heading out on a new adventure. The park is very well run by friendly staff who are very accommodating. Location is convenient to Central Florida attraction. This is a 55+ park, though you will see an occasional family here, as well. Highly recommend for long -term stays.
I have to admit, with a name like International RV Park Campground, I was expecting, I don’t know, something much more like Epcot Center but for the RV’ing crowd, but there was no real cosmopolitan or multicultural experience (or foreign languages or exotic restaurants for that matter) to be had. That said, if you have an RV and are in town for Daytona Speedway or perhaps even the beaches (although for this latter attraction, I would submit that you are too far west), then International RV Park Campground provides super easy off-road access to a fairly spartan and incredibly quiet night underneath the stars (that is, if your RV has a moon roof).
From an amenities standpoint, you’ll find nice flat, well-paved roads throughout the campground, full RV hook-ups (water, electric and sewage), where free WiFi is offered for your non-stop web surfing pleasure, an onsite mini-mart (say hi to Sean for me!), coin-operated washer and dryers, a fairly cool club house (where you can take over a table, throw down some cards and have a nice poker match), outdoor pavilions, sanitary dump station, scattered picnic tables, BBQ grills, propane gas refilling station, pin-coded bathhouse and restrooms (that are incredibly clean) and two different community pools with patio lounge furniture. Everywhere you go, pets are welcomed, so bring your furry friends!
While International RV Park Campground isn’t the only campground in town or nearby, what distinguishes it from the others is that it has 2 different small lakes that really amp up the natural feel to the place. Plus, unlike many of the other campgrounds that are placed too close to I95 and I4 for my taste, in just a short time after exiting either highway, you really can get lost from all of the concrete jungle and feel as though you have truly escaped all the noise, traffic and congestion that is less than a mile away from this place. Add to this, the camping community that I discovered here is absolutely fantastic with staff that are incredibly welcoming and helpful.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) As nice of a roadside pit stop this might be, it is not a destination, so get in late, leave early, but make a reservation well in advance; (2) If you find yourself lucky enough to be here on the weekend, you’ll want to check out Daytona Flea & Farmers Market conveniently located down the street from where you are staying and right across the street from Daytona RV Speedway; (3) While you couldn’t find a place more heavily trafficked in the entire state of Florida, in just a short 20 minute drive further west, you can discover Tiger Bay State Forest, which has an amazing hiking trail called Buncombe Hill Trailhead that’s a nice distraction from this otherwise concrete jungle; and (4) Even though you are surrounded by a ton of franchise restaurant chain eateries like Cracker Barrel, BJ’s, Tijuana Flats and Waffle House, I highly recommend Double Barrel Grill, which functions as one part whiskey distillery and also operates a shooting range – my recco for this restaurant is the fried bologna slider - don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
Happy Camping!
The stars just reflect that this is an older campground near a busy road serving a larger city. It does this job well. (If you are an encore member-it is part of that group.)
This is campground provides a good location to downtown Wintergarden with its charming downtown with cute shops and restaurants.
Our favorite activity is biking to the trail head for the West Orange rails to trail which is located downtown @ 3 miles from campground. This rail to trail is 22 miles long and can be extended another 9 miles ....if you link to South Lake Trail.
Also close biking (and driving distance) is Winter Garden Village -a great big outdoor mall with big name stores and specialty stores (easy 5 mile bike ride on sidewalks and multi-use trails not related to the West Orange trail.)
If you want to use this as a base for attractions. It is 21 miles to Disney and 15 miles to Universal Studios.
We stay here routinely for maintenance appointment for our Newmar RV at Independence RV and there are many big RV and Trailer showrooms in the area.
What you can expect at the Campground itself- tight quarters with a lot of long term residents and surprisingly a few tiny homes too.
When it rains it does get muddy and it looks like there is a propensity towards standing water after a rain. However, we get full hook ups with cable and and short term stay sites are a bit bigger than the long term and this has outweighed the water issue. The staff is always helpful and attentive and we have stayed here 3 times.
There are 2 pools, shuffle board, dog park, fishing pond, laundry room, nice mail room with lounge and free Wifi and many planned activities.
Happy Camping! Pamela and Keith!
Formerly known as Water’s Edge Oak RV Park, this lakeside RV retreat has been completely refurbished under new ownership who have renamed this outdoor camping respite Old Florida RV Park, so do take note of these changes as of October, 2024. This RV resort, complete with just 34 FHU (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage) slots that dot a small, simple single loop, sits right on Orange Lake. One of its great assets is the quick and EZ access you’ll have to this formidable fresh water lake that is very decent in size and is perfect for kayaking, canoeing and boating along with fishing where you’ll have no problem reeling in redear sunfish, large- and smallmouth bass, black crappie and bluegill. When we rocked up, all we needed to do was scan the QR code to book a slot for the night – while somewhat impersonal, it was incredibly convenient and EZ enough to find our slot and apart from meeting all of our neighbors, we never actually got to meet the owners as it seems as though they run this RV park on remote control.
This RV resort lives partially up to the name of ‘resort’ as there’s freshly minted Tiki huts throughout the property that look to be like they are in partial construction-mode, although when finished, these freestanding structures will definitely be a draw for those wanting to sip their Mai Tais under a straw-covered canopy. The road that leads you into this CG is perfectly smooth but wide enough only for a single vehicle moving in a one-way direction around the loop, where you’ll easily find diagonally-slotted pull-through (in the center) or back-in (on the exterior) RV sites complete with a perfectly paved adjoining patio decked out with brand new picnic tables. And while the interior of the RV resort is barren, exposing you to all of your soon-to-be-neighbors, the exterior perimeter is surrounded by a decent thick tree line along with brush and a new fence that encircles the property adding to the sense of safety and security here.
From an amenity’s standpoint, what exists now is very good, but apparently there are plans to develop a lot more, like an in-ground pool, pickleball courts, horse shoe rings, game room as well as kayak and canoe rentals along with offers of wildlife and fishing tours. There’s also the promise of a general store, full Tiki bar (open to the whole community), weekend food trucks and a community grilling area. There’s a lot of ‘Coming Soon’ amenities, so hopefully the good folks here at Old Florida RV Park make good on their plans, but those newly built Tiki Huts, which apparently will be offered only with the more premium sites (read: upcharge), are a good indication that all of these other amenities will be offered shortly. What is currently on-site is in either fairly excellent condition and / or brand-spanking new, like a facility that has an 8-seat movie theater, showers and restrooms, excellent boat ramp launch as well as a community fire pit.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) Unfortunately, for mi tent-pitchin’ bredren, there are not sites that allow for you to set up for the night, so you’ll have to keep looking for higher ground; (2) Should you be in the mood to check out some local fare, there’s just a small smattering of offerings in the nearby hamlet of Citra with options like Phil’s Grille and Sweet Baby Cheese’s or you’ll have to head a bit further west to the tiny town of Orange Lake to feast on Eagles Nest Bar & Grill, Lupita’s Taqueria, Southern Cooking and Georgie’s Lakeside Restaurant; (3) If you haven’t tried your go at a spring here in Florida, you need to add this to your bucket list – and fortunate enough for you, Salt Springs, which is one of the best springs in all of Florida, is located just about 20 minutes away from Old Florida RV Resort, so bring your goggles and fins and head on over to Salt Springs where if you are lucky, you’ll find some friendly manatees to swim alongside.
Happy Camping!
Fantastic New RV Park open in Ocala, Florida! Reasonably priced, wonderful service, immaculate grounds, restrooms and amenities- you could not ask for more! Pool, hot tub, bocce ball, pickle ball, shuffleboard, inside Rec area with pool table, games and more. We didn’t bring Daisy this trip but plenty of walking for exercise and dog areas for potty!
Since it is a new campground the trees are still growing so at the moment, it is not shady; however that is the only thing I can think of as a negative at this point. Close to the springs, world equestrian center, golf, and Ocala in general- Champions Run RV Resort is Fantastic! We will definitely be back and look forward to the Tiki Bar that is on the way!
Easy to find, close to I-75 Freeway. Older RV park with many permanent sites. Pull through, full hook ups with cable TV. Not too quiet but building on East side blocks much of the Freewaynoise. Large shade trees. Intermixed temp and permanent sites. Didn't see a store nor sites showers and restrooms. Pool is closed. Looks permanent.
This is a top notch RV park/marina.....has a full service restaurant with a very nice tiki bar right on the river. Staff is just the best and the sunsets are beautiful. Full size RV sites with full hook up and the whole park is paved or pavers. Very nice pool and full laundry. Plenty of bars and restaurants within a short drive.
We're members of Thousand Trails but we had to pay extra to stay here. It was a place to stay, nothing special. If you are there in the winter, the pool was cold and closes early. It is basically a place to stay and not very scenic. There are a lot of full-timers with their 'stuff.' The people in the site next to us had an outdoor shed with tons of junk everywhere. The park was close to Disneyworld and we dropped about $400 on a day at Epcot and had to drink our way through all the countries to make it worth our time since many of the attractions/rides were closed. I had fond memories of times at Disneyworld in the past with my kids but now, it feels like an artificial money suck. If you are in the area, I would recommend one of the other RV parks that has more to offer.
This park has unorganized roads and is difficult to navigate. The checkin office was unfriendly and did not provide a map of the park or sites, we had to use satellite view on google maps to find our way. My husband and I travel in our 37 foot motorhome with car in tow. Upon arrival we unhooked the tow and I prepared to drive in front of our motorhome to the site and survey it before guiding our motorhome in. The escort talked down to me (I'm female, mid forties) and shouted that my husband is only to listen to him when pulling in to the site and I'm not allowed to say anything. If it hadn't been a peak weekend we would have left to go elsewhere.
This park caters to long term permanent residents.
We had full hookups (water/sewer/electric) and raised picnic table.
This is a great campground if you want to visit Orlando/ Kissimee attractions without paying an arm and a leg. It is located by old town in Kissimmee. The RV resort is always neat and clean. Sites are well maintained with full hookups. You can also rent a cabin or even buy one on site for full-time rsort living. There are showers, laundry facility (at pool). pool side cafe, shuffleboard and wi-fi. This place is always busy with a calendar of scheduled activities like Holiday parties, block parties, etc.
We booked this to be in Orlando for a family event. The campground is fine. Lots of long term or permanent residents. Bathrooms are well maintained & in decent condition. Has a pool. The grounds were fine. Nothing special but at the price for 2 nights, it was good. Full hookups & site was concrete. Would use this for a short term stay again.
Good RV Park near Disney and it is a very pretty, lush, tropical park. Old town Kissimmee is right next door, and it has several loud amusement rides. This is definitely an active RV Park, lots of people out enjoying all of the activities. Spaces are tight and roads are narrow and lots of curves and curbs. The only bummer we noticed was the dumpster area in the middle of the park would get hot and it would stink pretty bad, Florida is breezy and it was pretty unpleasant.
They have golf cart rental, thought that was pretty cool.
They have a gate guard shack thing and lots of staff members. They have dark green polos ride around on golf carts. They were very friendly and they have many planned activities for guests and residents.
They have a few sections: -The premium spots on the south side of the park were the nicest with the most space. -Thousand Trails section is on the West side and they do not have sewer (they said they are working on this in 2020)
Lots of built in units for rental, some streets are narrow and challenging to navigate. Many spots did not have sewer, but they had free pump outs every Wednesday and a dump station. They will be fixing this during 2020- per management.
Cell signals: Decent cellular service for AT&T and Very good T-Mobile service.
They have: Pool Cafe/Bar 1 Hot Tub Mini Golf Volleyball Courts Shuffle Board Club House Mail Room Camp Store Basketball Laundry Shower Houses Kids play room and play area Gym Pool Tables Creek running through the middle
Great location, simple, clean, safe, good people. Tents, vans, skoolies, pop ups, rvs/motorhomes. A mix of long term and short term. Great fire circle and clubhouse with bathrooms and showers.
If you are watching, training or riding world-class horses and find yourself here at World Equestrian RV Resort, you'll experience brand-spanking-new facilities, complete with its very own petrol station. It’s a mall-like parking lane maze of slots designed exclusively for the RV camping lot– so sorry fellow tent campers, you’ll have to keep looking for higher ground. For the RV’ers out there, you’ll be pleased with the new sticker smell of this place, complete with all of the standard water, electric and sewar hook-ups. There’s decent space between you and your neighbors, although there is zero privacy in this greenery-free parking lot. If you’re hauling horses, then you’ll have plenty of space, but the place is incredibly high maintenance when it comes to cleaning up after yourself(or your mares!). That said, it’s a stone’s throw to the World Equestrian Center, so what this place lacks in ambiance and nature, its proximity, newness and ease of navigation make it an attractable location to stay in.

Boggy Creek RV Resort and Fish Camp Review
Boggy Creek RV Resort and Fish Camp Is located in Kissimmee, Florida on the edge of East Lake Tohopekaliga. We stayed there for a month from the middle of June to the middle of July in 2021.
As new RV'ers, this was our first attempt at reserving and staying somewhere in our new Apex 293 RLDS Travel Trailer. The staff was very accommodating when my wife first contacted them by phone and offered a "pull-through" site for an extra $100, but being the cheapskate that I am I opted to stick with a "back-in" site (I've got to learn to do it at some point, right?).
When we arrived we checked in at the office/gift shop/small grocery store and both the ladies there at the desk were very courteous and helpful. They had one of their staff, a fine gentleman named Rego, escort us to the site and he spent 45 minutes helping me to back in. I should mention that the site was nestled between two trees, some kind of metal post sticking up about 5 feet from the ground, and the vehicle of our next door neighbors, so in addition to my inexperience we had to maneuver around all those obstacles. I got it backed in without touching ANY of them! As he left us, Rego urged me to call anytime we needed anything.
There are more than 200 sites in the park, but a lot of them are year-round residents. That still leaves roughly half of the sites for guests and the park looked to be about three-fourths filled to my untrained eye. They come with 50amp shore power, water, and sewer connections, as well as concrete pads and picnic tables.
I was born in, and grew up in, Florida so my first impression of Boggy Creek RV Resort and Fish Camp is that it is very much like "Old Florida" with towering Oak trees covered in hanging Spanish Moss, Scrub Pines, and even Palm trees. This is not a manicured RV park, though the grounds are well kept by the staff, where the sites are laid out like cookie-cutters in a parking lot. The abundance of trees provide a very nice amount of shade around the park and, even in the Summer heat and swelter of Florida, made the temperature bearable with our little 13,500 BTU rooftop air conditioner. East Lake Tohopekaliga is also large enough that it provides a nice, cooling breeze during the day.
The park advertises a pool and restaurant, but both were shut down during COVID-19 restrictions and have not yet re-opened. They hope to have the pool up and running as soon as they can break through the supply-chain issues that have plagued the industry. We did not ask about the restaurant, but I imagine the same issues apply.
There is an abundance of wildlife including Sand Hill Cranes (which serenaded us every morning and barked their unhappiness when we walked near them during our daily treks around the park), Peacocks (which was an unexpected sight, but very enjoyable), Herons, Tortoises, and Alligators. So if you're looking for a sterile environment, this might not be the place for you. If you're a boater or fisherman, there is a dock for fishing off of and a boat ramp for putting your watercraft into the lake.
Our month long stay was enjoyable because of the staff, the flora and fauna, and the slow, laid back atmosphere. We would highly recommend Boggy Creek RV Resort and Fish Camp for those who are seeking the same.
If your idea of a good time is joining a rather overpopulated roadside RV parking lot, chock full of amenities and distractions then look no further than Bee’s RV Resort located right off Route 27 just due west of Lake Apopka in central Florida. This location is a good layover and while very well-established for those looking for a built-in community and infrastructure, the stinging reality here is that spots are quite tight, far and few between and too well organized for my particular taste.
You’ll discover a ton of amenities from nicely paved roads, newly refurbished solar-heated pool, complimentary WiFi, laundr-O-mat (located right next to the front office), sparkling clean showers and restrooms as well as an on-site propane station – and there’s even an on-site restaurant in case you don’t want to stray too far from this beehive. But wait! There’s more! This RV parking corral encircles a natural pond in case you want to cast a line, there’s pull-through and back-in sites with all of the traditional water, sewage and electric (30 / 50) hook-ups, scattered picnic tables and BBQ grills as well as a ton of activities to choose from – classic car shows and autumn craft-making to well-being seminars and even a Thanksgiving dinner and dance - for those that want to connect and socialize.
Insider’s tips? Sure, here’s a few: (1) If you’re a golfer, you’re in luck as there are a ton of golf courses near Bee’s with Clerbrook Golf course located just across the street; (2) If you don’t want to get out of this honeycomb, then try your luck at Diggity Dawgs, which is the new on-site restaurant – but they only feature pizza and subs from Coney Island, so lower your foodie bar!; (3) If you don’t want to dine on compromised eats, then you’ll have to head south to Clermont where you’ll find PeruRican Ceviche, which for these parts is pretty outstanding and if you are still longing for pizza, check out Mamma Rita’s Pizzeria for some good pies and pasta; and (4) If nature is calling and you want to get out for a good hike, then head due south to Hiawatha Preserve that has a few dog parks, playgrounds, picnic areas, hiking paths, and of course, access to Lake Hiawatha, in case you want to drop your kayak or canoe in the water.
Happy Camping!
I called the Winter Garden number listed, which transfers to Encore, Thousand Trails reservations 888-07-1477. They were very helpful to inform me that there are only RV sites at this location. Tent camping 27 miles away at Tropical Palms.
We stay here through Thousand trails and love it! There are so many amenities and even a full golf course!
