Best RV Parks & Resorts near St. Petersburg, FL

The St. Petersburg area features several RV-friendly campgrounds with varying amenities and site configurations. Encore Vacation Village in Largo provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections. Sites are typically arranged close together on gravel pads. "Park has a lot of long term RVs and many of them older. Dog friendly and has a decent sized dog run. We had a pull thru spot that was plenty long enough to leave our dolly hooked up to our 33' class A," noted one visitor. Terra Ceia RV Resort in Palmetto accommodates big rigs with spacious sites and offers year-round availability, while Encore Winter Quarters Manatee in Bradenton features waterfront sites but with considerable highway noise from nearby I-75.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended for most RV parks in the region, particularly during winter months when snowbirds significantly increase occupancy rates. Full hookup sites at Pleasant Lake RV Resort and Avalon RV Resort maintain high ratings for their level pads and reliable utilities. Cell service varies considerably throughout the area, with several reviewers mentioning weak AT&T coverage at certain locations. Many parks enforce pet policies that include designated dog areas but restrict certain breeds or sizes. Dump stations are available at most parks, though older facilities may have dated equipment. A recent review noted that "the electrical (30 amp and 50 amp) was farther back than the water, which wasn't a huge deal but might be inconvenient for some" at Winter Quarters Manatee RV park. Propane refill services are limited at the parks themselves, requiring trips to nearby commercial suppliers.

    Sherwood Forest RV Resort

    Megalopolis RV Circus

Allow me to begin by saying I have never been to a large RV campground… ever! This place is so huge that you won’t be surprised if you get lost in this place at least a couple of times before you find your slotted RV destination for the night. Also, I was amazed by how close to the concrete jungle you are at this place, but once you turn on the winding little lane that will bring you to this megalopolis RV circus – fitting given your proximity to all of themed amusement parks! – after crossing through the entry gates, you immediately lose sight of all the traffic, noise and business as you are swallowed up by the lush verdant trees of pines, palms and Ancient oaks.

As for the campground itself, you’ll enter off the very busy 192 and head south on Scott Boulevard, where you’ll pass 3 intersecting lanes before arriving to Sherwood Forest RV Resort. There will be plenty of signage, so you shouldn’t get lost arriving here – it's another story once inside this massive compound. To navigate yourself to the proper location you have been assigned of the 514 potential overnight possibilities that exist, you’ll first want to stop off at the administration building, where they should give you a map – and if they don’t, be sure to ask for you, because you’re going to need it! Basically, this entire place is back-to-back RV’s parked at a diagonal with very little to no privacy whatsoever and given that Sherwood Forest is so heavily populated, you are going to encounter both a decent amount of traffic (the golf cart kind) and noise. And while I would normally encourage folks to get as close to the pool area as possible, I found this main congregating place to be quite jam packed and noisy.

Amenities: Clubhouse / lounge, mini-golf, basketball, dog park, RV storage, restroom / shower facilities, horseshoe pit, WiFi (at a cost away from the main building), shuffleboard, darts, fitness center, in-ground heated swimming pool, nearby Tiki bar, LP gas refill station, laundr-O-mat, ballroom, mail room, library, banquet hall, catch-and-release lake fishing, marketplace store, playground, game room, billiards, whirlpool / spa / hot tub, picnic tables, pavilion areas, fire pits, BBQ grill, designated trash receptacles, trash compactor, cable TV / satellite and back-in / pull-through sites with full hook-ups (30/ 50 amp electric, water and sewage). In addition to all of the amenities, there’s also a ton of activities, including live music concerts, potluck dinners, BBQ cookouts, dance lessons, ice cream socials, craft-making classes, outdoor chess, mini-golf tournaments, church services, aerobic dancing, exercise classes, line dancing (yeehaw!), board game nights, Bingo, card playing as well as formal holiday dinners around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) The best sites, in general, are all of the ones that are completely on the perimeter of Sherwood Forest RV Resort, specifically sites #1– 137 (you will note that there are a handful of cottages and cabins for rent in these slots as well); (2) When you get done staring down the inside of your cooler or mini-fridge and are looking for a place to sit down and eat for a change, then there are no shortage of food joints to have a look at, including: Krispy Kreme (my personal favorite), Cracker Barrel (my personal least favorite restaurant in the universe), Longhorn Steakhouse, Ichiban Buffet, Martin’s BBQ, Olive Garden and 192 Crab & Lobster Juicy Seafood & Bar;(3) If by chance you have forgotten anything, avoid paying double or triple the price at the on-site market by going to either Walmart or Publix, which are both about a mile and half away; and (4) If you would actually like to enjoy a bit of the outdoors while staying at this RV amusement park, go for a day trip to Lake Tohopekaliga, which has some pretty amazing bass fishing as well as a few choice places to drop your boat into, like Twin Oaks or Cherokee Point Conservation Areas (and if you don’t have your own kayak, canoe or boat, contact Wild Willys Airboat Tours and they’ll show you around).

    Happy Camping!

    Plantation Oaks

    Basic mobile home/RV park

We stayed there during the Tampa Show. Last minute decision. Park has a lot of long term RV's and many of them older. Dog friendly and has a decent sized dog run. We had a pull thru spot that was plenty long enough to leave our dolly hooked up to our 33' class A, and still have plenty of room to park in front. Although it was very narrow and I was a little concerned about my leveling jacks sinking in when it rained due to it being all grass. Fortunately it didn't rain much. There were cable hook ups, but I couldn't get a signal. Not sure about wifi, because I just used my hot spot. Most, if not all, of the short term spaces had picknick tables. Overall just a fairly quiet place to park with hookups and not too far off the highway.

Palmetto Ridge Campground — Myakka River State Park

    Enormous park

I’m staying in the Palmetto Ridge loop which is the only paved loop & I think the only one w/sewer. The Big Flats & Old Prairie loops are gravel road, tight, no privacy & very small sites like for popups, vans or small campers. The Palmetto Ridge pull thrus are gigantic. I would say the vegetation gives semi privacy but they aren’t on top of each other so it’s not like you’re looking right at your neighbor. There is a picnic table & a fire ring. Gravel sites but pretty level. My site was 50 amp. Not sure how many are. Bath house & laundry facility appears clean. Pet friendly. The outpost is literally like 3 miles into the park down from the entrance & Palmetto loop. The store was nice & there was a food truck. It was a little spendy but good food. The river was low so the kayak rental & boat tours were shut down. Tons of great hiking & even some elevated bridges for site seeing. Tons of gators, birds, deer etc. There is also a scenic drive in the park, a “fisherman’s loop” & a few picnic areas. There are cabins to rent but I didn’t see them. Also never saw a playground if you have kids. Very dark & quiet at night.

    Horseshoe Cove RV Resort

    Great short or long stay

I live local and have been staying here in the pull through area a month until I transition to 100% travel trailer life. I have 2 50 lb+ dogs and there are many other people with dogs, plus a dog park. Park is very well kept, beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes. Love this place! Maintenance is A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!! I will be staying here again for short and extended periods and feel more than comfortable to recommend to friends and family. Laundry facilities and bathrooms are fine too. Dryers dry a full load of towels in one cycle, was pretty impressive! Also plenty of area to ride a bike a couple times around the park. It is also close to gas, grocery store and really good restaurants. Two thumbs up!!!

    Hickory Point RV Park

Nice, quiet, well maintained, friendly, wooded CG on the water

We have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed in site 132 for 3 days in mid April. The CG is very clean, well maintained, but relatively expensive. The CG is a mixture of long-term and transient folks. The roads are paved, but the sites are sandy, shelly gravel. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They have beach chairs near the water and a fire pit that they lit every evening near sunset. In addition to the Bark Park area, there is a nice wooded area where you can walk your dog as well.

AT&T coverage was pretty good, with 3-4 bars of 5G service and speeds up to 11 MB/s. The CG has a lot of trees, but the sites in the front of the park are pretty open. We had no line-of-site to the DISH satellites, but did have an open view north, so Starlink usable, but the CG had WiFi and we were right across from the antenna, so we didn’t use Starlink. The CG WiFi achieved speeds up to 8 MB/s.

    Edward Medard Park

    Gem of the County

What a beautiful well kept facility near suburbia. Just a short drive from Tampa and Lakeland areas this first come first served facility is a favorite of locals. Full service for RV's (even a dump station. Clean, monitored bathroom facilities close to lots of additional activities! Kayaking and fishing on the lake is a blast! Frisbee Golf (this is an advanced course) equestrian and hiking trails, picnic and playground areas. Pet friendly but there were more than a few stray cats when we were there (a problem the rangers are trying to address). Midweek is best time to visit as weekends fill fast (usually by Thursday night)

    Plantation Oaks

    Nice peaceful place

It’s a great basic park. It does have a nice size dog run and very pet friendly as long as you pick up afterwards. The office manager Christina along with Melisa the maintenance manager has been nothing but fantastic since day one. After spending a few months here it seems to be a safe friendly environment.. I highly recommend it, it’s close to shopping and some good restaurants yet it’s not in the middle of the hustle.

    MacDill AFB FamCamp

    Utilitarian

No surprise on a military base but felt like a campground equivalent of base housing. Tight spots with full hook ups. Lots of snow birds, so getting in was a challenge. We had to show up without a reservation and take advantage of first come, first serve spots.

Full hook up (electric/water/sewer) and cable. No wifi (so weak it didn't work) and cell coverage almost non-existent (AT&T).

Close to a small beach and marina with a restaurant walking distance. Several dog parks but muddy/dirt. Laundry available for fee. Bath houses clean and large.

Good amenities on base. Gym not too far and massive.

Make sure you arrive at the base through the gate at the end of Dale Mabry, as it's the only gate campers can come thru. And be sure to go to the far right lane, even if it's got a red X showing the lane is closed. They will open the wider lane for you. You don't want to know why I know that or how close our Airstream was to the guard shacks if you don't go in the far lane!

    St. Petersburg-Madeira Beach KOA Holiday

Natural Spot Hidden in the City

I recently had a wonderful experience at the St. Petersburg/Madeira Beach KOA Holiday, and I’m excited to share my positive review! I’ve hosted friends in their Deluxe Cabins before, and they were thoroughly impressed. The cabins were equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay—fresh linens, a full kitchen, and even a private patio with a grill and fire ring. And they had a great view of the lush mangrove lined Long Bayou.

They loved the blend of cozy and convenient, making their getaway truly enjoyable. At the end of the road driving out of this campground is a great restaurant called Doe Doe's that makes a delicious homestyle breakfast if you don't want to cook it yourself.

Wanting to be close to them I opted for one of the small tent sites at the end of the park where I car camped in my Subaru Outback. It was a peaceful and charming spot, perfect for a relaxing camping experience - and away from more of the centrally located activities that people camping with children enjoy.

Overall, the amenities were top-notch, including the heated outdoor pool, bike and kayak rentals, and clean and large facilities. They have something called KampK9 which is a fenced in dog park area. Less than a mile away is Bay Pines Park which is nice to jog or ride your bike through and there is also a super Walmart nearby so you can stock up for your drive to the next campground. You also have easy access to the Gulf Coast's stunning beaches and the scenic Pinellas Trail.

Driving on the main road, and seeing the somewhat industrial area you pass through on your way down the small side street to this campground, you wouldn't expect much - but this KOA has been there for decades and is one of the nicest family campgrounds in the middle of a city I have experienced.

Guide to St. Petersburg

RV campgrounds near St. Petersburg, Florida offer diverse options for travelers exploring Tampa Bay and the Gulf Coast. The area features numerous commercial RV parks within a 30-mile radius of downtown, with most facilities providing full hookup services and centralized access to beaches and attractions. Winter months bring significantly higher occupancy rates with seasonal temperature averages ranging from 60°F to 80°F.

What to do

Beach access opportunities: Caladesi RV Park in Palm Harbor provides a convenient base for visiting nearby beaches. "The beach is a 5 minute drive and pet friendly! The Pinellas bike trail is also located right behind the park and easy to get on," notes one camper. The park's location allows for easy day trips to multiple Gulf beaches.

Fishing spots: River Vista RV Park in Ruskin offers water access for anglers. "Some new sites done very well with concrete slabs, picnic tables, water, sewer, electric and wifi. Pool and water access too," says one reviewer, making it ideal for fishing enthusiasts wanting direct water access.

Local attractions: Encore Terra Ceia in Palmetto serves as a strategic location for exploring the region. "This place is 20 minutes away from several beaches and the TB Rays stadium, the Trop. The facilities were clean and we have a view of the pond with ducks," reports a visitor. The campground's central position allows campers to access multiple attractions within short driving distances.

What campers like

Pool facilities: Multiple St. Petersburg area RV campgrounds maintain swimming pools as primary amenities. "The pool is clean and clear and that works for me. Also, the manager is always around greeting people and doing things around the park so the grounds are nice and tidy," mentions a guest at Caladesi RV Park, highlighting the well-maintained recreation areas.

Convenient locations: Encore Winter Quarters Manatee in Bradenton receives praise for its strategic position. "Location is nice because you are right off I-75 and can be anywhere in the Greater Tampa Bay area with easy access," notes one camper, though they mention persistent highway noise as a drawback.

Friendly communities: Several parks foster social environments, particularly for longer-term stays. "Wonderfully situated around a lake. Good amenities and close to everything. Some highway traffic noise but nothing bad," shares a visitor about Winter Quarters Manatee. Many parks feature predominantly permanent or seasonal residents who create community atmospheres.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Avalon RV Resort in Clearwater features typical Florida site configurations. "The sites are a little tight but that's normal for most of Florida, specially in a heavy populated area like Clearwater. It's unbelievably quiet although it's right off of US 19," reports one camper.

Traffic and noise considerations: Several RV campgrounds near St. Petersburg sit adjacent to major highways. "Located right on U.S. 19 so don't expect quiet," warns a camper about Holiday Travel Park. Traffic noise impacts many parks, particularly those with convenient highway access.

Permanent resident populations: Most parks maintain a mix of travelers and long-term residents. "We had a very difficult time parking my 37' foot travel trailer. If someone is parked across from you, you basically are stuck. The rules are extremely strict, as this is mainly a retirement community," explains a visitor to Winter Quarters Pasco.

Tips for camping with families

Pool accessibility: Tampa South RV Resort and several other parks offer swimming pools suitable for families. "Nice little resort. About 100 sites including park models. Place is very clean & well maintained. Sites are close but everyone is very friendly," shares a visitor, though families should confirm pool hours and supervision requirements.

Pet accommodation: Most campgrounds allow pets but enforce specific rules. "Dog friendly and has a decent sized dog run," notes one visitor about pet amenities. Families traveling with pets should verify breed restrictions, designated dog areas, and leash requirements before booking.

Noise levels: Some campgrounds enforce strict quiet hours appropriate for families with children. "Super Peaceful! We are only staying one week but it has been very pleasant so far," mentions a camper at Avalon RV Resort, noting the surprisingly quiet environment despite highway proximity.

Tips from RVers

Hookup configurations: RVers should confirm specific utility layouts before arrival. "Very convenient location and close to Walmart and Costco. We will definitely be back!" shares an RVer about Winter Quarters Manatee, appreciating the practical location near supplies.

Navigation challenges: Several parks feature narrow internal roads requiring careful maneuvering. "Staff is so great. I even had 2 maintenance guys help us park our big rig!" reports an Avalon RV Resort visitor, highlighting the assistance needed for larger vehicles.

Reservation timing: Advanced booking remains essential during peak winter months at St. Petersburg RV campgrounds. "We were looking for a new place to spend the winter. This is an amazing park," notes a visitor to Holiday Travel Park, emphasizing the importance of securing winter accommodations well in advance due to "snowbird" seasonal migration patterns.
