Hillsborough River State Park Campground and Alafia River State Park Campground offer cabin accommodations within 30 minutes of Temple Terrace. These cabins typically include electricity, air conditioning, and basic furnishings such as beds, tables, and chairs. Most park cabins feature small kitchenettes with refrigerators and microwaves, while some provide full kitchens with stoves. "The cabin was absolutely amazing, clean, spacious, and stocked with everyone we needed. Just had to bring food," noted one visitor about their Lake Louisa State Park experience. Bathroom facilities vary by location, with some cabins offering private bathrooms while others require guests to use nearby campground facilities.
Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park offers primitive cabins without electricity, while KOA-style cabins at St. Petersburg-Madeira Beach KOA Holiday provide more amenities. Cabin sizes range from small one-room structures sleeping 2-4 people to larger family cabins accommodating 6-8 guests. Most locations require advance reservations, especially during winter months when Florida's mild climate attracts visitors. According to feedback on The Dyrt, "The cabins were equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay—fresh linens, a full kitchen, and even a private patio with a grill and fire ring."
Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen supplies vary significantly between locations, with state park cabins generally providing basic cookware and utensils while private resort cabins may offer more complete setups. Happy Traveler RV Resort and Southern Aire RV Resort both have on-site markets for basic provisions, though prices are typically higher than at grocery stores. Walmart and Publix supermarkets are located within 15 minutes of most Temple Terrace area cabin accommodations. Firewood is available for purchase at several locations including Hillsborough River State Park and Little Manatee River State Park for guests planning to use outdoor fire rings.
"Church groups and other not for profit organizations can book this space if the scouts have not - but they are given first opportunity according to park staff that I worked with."
"One of the most awarded State Parks! This park has everything! 3 full service camping loops full of sites - lots of space for RV's and Tents - 2 designated hammock camping spots."

Quiet. Definitely skewed toward equestrian. Sites are well spaced. Outer loop is best. Restroom/showers are very well kept. Not much for kids. Short trails are ok. Cayaking is best option if you're in to that. Relax here, enjoy the peace and have your favorite beverage
Great location
Nice little place. Gravel, pull-through sites, clean bathrooms, and friendly staff. Tons to do for the littles!
Everything went pretty well except for one hiccup. Our first night staying there our bathroom drain got backed up with sewage that came back up from the drain which caused a terrible smell of The shower then also clogged and had to shower in puddle of water that got gross from our feet being all dirty because of the mud. I had mistakingly booked the stay without adding the hot tub.. so when we mentioned the issue to Dan(main guy in charge) we asked about the hot tub for the second day since it says it needs to be booked for a 2 night minimum. He said it would be taken care of.. so in our minds of a server and bartender and having worked in the service industry for a long time, we figured that the hot tub would be taken care of for us, considering that it's simply a$30 charge. So l then later get a text message from him asking if the card that I had on file was Ok to charge for the hot tub, and I asked if there would be any sort of compensation for the bathroom situation, he said being charged for one night instead of 2 was the compensation.. which made no sense to me since we only were getting it for one night. To top it off the hot tub was not even hot.. Was def not very impressed by that.
If you like peace and quietness this is a place for you. I’m sure it is busier during the winter months. Plenty of shade with a new pool. You can rent canoes, play putt putt or paddle along the Peace river. If you’re into nature just walk the meandering trails through the woods. New concrete pads with a fire pit and picnic table. Everyone was polite and the WiFi was excellent. We stayed in lot 61. It overlooks the pasture with plenty of shade. Lot 60 and 59 also have total coverage and will be one of my next next choices. Plenty of space between your neighbors even make it better
Took the littles (ages 5 &4) for their first tent camping trip - had a blast once they learned what s’mores were all about! Decent space, warm days and unusually cool nights.
Great lil place. Nice private bathrooms, mini splits in these and in tent, comfortable for family of 5. Fun turf play area near main office. Shark tooth sifting, trail hike, but the bank river fishing was tough. Owner/manager was a jack of all trades, very helpful and did it all.
Great little spot. Seemed to rain every 5 minutes where they had to shut everything down but had good contingency plans. Golf carts galore with some sites a little more rowdy than the next, but plenty of room. Kids loved the pools and crafts, adults loved the tiki bars and live music.
Tampa's Temple Terrace area offers cabin options within conservation areas containing cypress swamps and pine flatwoods. Winter temperatures typically range from 50-70°F, making December through February prime cabin camping season. Mosquitoes are particularly active during summer months, especially near stagnant water areas.
Kayaking opportunities: Hillsborough River State Park features river canoeing along the Hillsborough River. "Nice trails, great river canoeing. Close to Tampa and Busch Gardens," notes one visitor. The park also rents kayaks for those without their own equipment.
Mountain biking trails: Alafia River State Park offers extensive mountain biking opportunities on former phosphate mining land. "I was probably the only hiker at this park and there were a ton of mountain bikers. I loved that they had a ton of different trails to choose from, some just hiking or biking, and some mixed ones," reports one visitor. The trails are rated for various skill levels.
Wildlife viewing: Look for deer, tortoises, and over 150 bird species in the wooded areas near Temple Terrace. "This is such an awesome place! I go here every year to see all of the various birds that migrate here," writes a visitor to Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park.
Clean, reliable facilities: Cabin campers appreciate the consistent maintenance of bathrooms and common areas. "The bathrooms are well kept and clean. The park itself is very nice, with some hikes and kayak rentals," shares a visitor to Hillsborough River State Park.
Natural privacy barriers: Many cabins offer vegetation buffers between sites. At Little Manatee River State Park, campers appreciate the "clean campground with good natural foliage dividers between campsites." Another visitor noted, "Natural trees providing privacy between lots."
Convenient location: The Temple Terrace area cabins provide quick access to urban amenities while maintaining a natural setting. "The campground is also not far from some big cities, such as Tampa and St. Pete, which is convenient," according to one Hillsborough River State Park visitor.
Seasonal bug considerations: Insect activity varies dramatically by season. "The mosquitoes were ridiculous in June. We practically had to anchor our toddler to the picnic table so he wasn't carried away by them," warns a Hillsborough River visitor. Another camper at Alafia River State Park noted their site had "probably worst mosquitoes in 30 years of camping."
Reservation timing: Book well in advance for winter stays. According to a visitor at Tampa East RV Resort, "Office management were very nice. We left early due to hurricane Nicole. They gave us a voucher to stay there again or at any Sun Outdoor Resort." Some parks offer rain checks for weather-related cancellations.
Campground personalities: Each location has distinct characteristics. Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park offers "rustic and semi primitive camping" with "clean restrooms and helpful staff." Little Manatee River State Park provides "a gentle river for an easy paddle" while Alafia River is "basically a large field with a small lake in the middle, and campsites scattered around it."
Playground access: Several parks offer play areas near cabin sites. At Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, "There are many hiking, bike trails, and 2 playgrounds within mere steps of your tent or cabin. I've camped here with my 4/5 year old boys and our Cub Scout pack."
Educational opportunities: Look for parks with nature centers. "Nature Trails are amazing," notes one Hillsborough River visitor, while Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park offers a "Nature education center for children."
Swimming options: Southern Aire RV Resort provides "a large pool and jacuzzi" according to a visitor who adds that "lots of old trees provide abundant shade and a great walking environment." However, note that this resort is "ADULT ONLY, no kids" beyond overnight stays.
Site access considerations: Many cabin areas share roads with RV campsites. "The sites are extremely close. I had a very difficult time parking my 37' foot travel trailer. If someone is parked across from you, you basically are stuck," warns a visitor to Winter Quarters Pasco.
Utility quality: Water pressure and electrical service vary between parks. Tampa East RV Resort cabins feature "2 pools" and "our electric box was a bit tricky to plug in since somehow it was almost on the ground." At another location, campers reported intermittent water service.
Site drainage: Florida's sudden rainstorms can affect cabin areas. At Hillsborough River, one visitor observed their "site did not flood when we had torrential downpours for a few hours one night." Others mention that some parks have poor drainage during heavy rains.
