HIGHLY recommend!

Family owned and operated and everyone is so fantastic and accommodating! Beautiful scenery and trails. Canoe and kayak outpost. The Outpost peacock named Elvis hung around with us! Dog park for my pup was fantastic and well maintained. We decided to extend our stay after our first day bc it was so wonderful! Hot showers, clean bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and you can also rent cabins, RV’s, buses etc. We will def be back.

Group camping for small parties is PERFECT

During covid we had a lovely faerie themed campout with just over a dozen friends. It was absolutely perfect. A Pavillion to cook meals on, a stage to perform a burlesque show in which i used to propose to my fiance. And plenty of electric hookups for everyone.

Peaceful Grounds great staff

We had originally only booked 1 night here but ended up staying an extra night so that we could kayak down the river. Beautiful old oak trees with lots of shade. John & Eric were superb from start til end. Hot showers, decent wifi. And just a 2 min walk down to the river for the most peaceful noise. Love the old hippy vibes at this family friendly campground. And a great price!

Wonderful

It was our first “EVER” camping trip so really Newbies! We loved the scenic campground with its idyllic view of the river and very friendly management. We did need help checking out which was happily given. Thank you we will return. Chip and ML Maxwell

Nice & quiet

We stayed for 3 nights over Memorial Day weekend. Campground was quiet & restrooms were clean. We rented canoes & kayaks, and had a fun day on the river. Employees were very nice & helpful!

Wonderful hospitality

We stopped in to rent kayaks not realizing that they also had sites for camping and RVs. We enjoyed our 3 hour kayak trip and then they very kindly found us a spot to stay for the night. We honestly didn’t want to leave. We hope to be back next trip and book in advance. Very relaxing place, shaded sites

Great Place to visit

As a beginner camper the time I have spent on these campgrounds has been a lot of fun. Got to go there with a group of 8 guys and were able to have enough space to be by ourselves and plenty room for activities like frisbee, football, and soccer. Canoeing to your camp site is the way to go. We did the 8-mile trek which wasn't too bad for a group of 30 year old guys that are out of shape. However the campgrounds do get pricey. Either way its a great time for a group.

Great Time!

I stayed here in Feb 2016, in a friend's camper/RV (I was with a band that had a gig there). I was really impressed with the bathroom & shower facilities! Cool firepit areas. Gorgeous spot! Really wish I would have had the time to kayak/canoe around! Would definitely go back!

Decent spot. If you want privacy and primitive, it’s not the spot

So I grew up camping a lot and like to be more primitive/ private. The campsites are close together, with little privacy. It’s also located right off the highway, so you get all the noise. All day and all night.

Now, for canoe and kayak trips, I guess it’s a good spot. There’s a lot of folk that come just for that. The staff is very friendly. They drive around maybe once a couple of hours. They are pet friendly. A long as your pup isn’t running around the whole property. I’m pretty sure every site has water and electricity.

Great Canoe/Camp set up close to South FL

The Canoe Outpost is a franchise and there are several throughout the state. The one that's closest to me is in Arcadia, FL and runs along the peace river. Been camping here for years and it is without a doubt my go-to camping get away. The staff is friendly, and informative.

The best part about camping with the Canoe Outpost is that you have the option to select different sections of the river. Depending on how long you want to be out there or how many miles of river you want to paddle they will drop you and your canoe off upstream so that you can paddle down to the pick up point of your choice, camping along the way.

The canoe outpost operates throughout the year and can be visited at any time. I usually go anywhere between November and March. Since this is Florida and its practically summer all year round I feel those are the best times.

Overall, its a great set up and great camping spot. Excellent choice for all campers, newbie to seasoned. Highly Recommend.

NOTES:

  1. Once your on the river there are no bathrooms or electricity. You'll have to rough it.
  2. If necessary the folks at the Canoe Outpost can bring you materials, food, ice, etc. in case you run out or forgot something. This of course comes at a cost but is available. I've never used this service so I cant offer a review on the experience.
SiteAnywhere! Some areas are restricted but most of the river bank is available
