Hardee Lakes Park

Anglers and trail enthusiasts will find four interconnected lakes and an extensive network of dirt roads and boardwalks at Hardee Lakes Park, a county-operated campground built on reclaimed phosphate mining land. The park sits on 1,100 acres about 15 minutes from Bowling Green's main shopping, with mature trees that have grown back over the past two decades since mining operations ceased.

The campground maintains a notably quiet atmosphere due to its no-alcohol policy, which eliminates the party crowds common at many public facilities. Sites range from primitive lakefront spots at $20 per night to full-hookup RV sites accommodating rigs up to 50 feet. Joshua W. stayed at "a non-electric site right on the lake" and found the fire pit well-designed for evening use. Water trucks spray the dirt roads several times daily to control dust, though the access road can be rough during wet conditions.

Campers can explore wide, hard-packed trails that circle all four lakes and extend into surrounding woodlands. The lakes support fishing from floating docks and boat launches, with alligators and other wildlife frequently spotted from the water. Some visitors ride fat-tire bikes or electric scooters on the trail system, while others prefer walking the boardwalk sections that cut through wooded areas.

Site spacing varies significantly across the campground. Jim W. secured "the end site on the lake that was very private," though primitive sites cluster closer together in some sections. The bathhouse provides hot showers and stays well-maintained. Local firewood vendors deliver to sites, with contact information available at the camp office. Reservations are accepted, and the park typically sees lighter crowds during weekdays and off-season periods.

Great Spot with Wildlife

Great spot for a weekend of doing nothing. Park has 4 lakes with boat launches and floating docks for fishing. Lakes are loaded with gators and other wildlife. The campsites ashame plenty of trees for shad. They have power sites and primitive camping as well. Weather was great and as good as it gets for FL camping.

Fantastic Campgroudnd

My experience was great with my pup! Primitive sites were $20 a night at time of writing.

We stayed in a primitive site(p14) with water. I was excited to discover all these primitive wites with water are right on the lake.

There’s no alcohol allowed which is a double edged sword, but I welcomed this rule as there always seems to be groups partying at public campsites. Not here.

Bathrooms are typical campsite bathroom. They have showers too for campers.

It’s a dirt road campsite, but they have water trucks that spray a few times a day to keep the dust down. So thankful for that!

RV pull sites and promote. campsites are far enough away from each other.

Nearest major grocery store is wal-mart about 15 minutes away.

Only iffy thing I’d call out is how tight the primitive campsites are to each other. It was dead when I came, but had my neighboring sites been occupied, I wouldn’t have enjoyed my time as much.

Nice park and campground

We got lucky to get a site here last minute after our state park campground was closed for extended period due to hurricane repairs (without letting us know so it was a scramble to find alternatives).  The campground is nice.  We stayed in an "equestrian" site and most people didn't have horses (neither did we).  While much of the park isn't shaded (in fact there is waayyyyy too much lawn/grass in all the communal areas - would be much better if they planted trees and let forest grow back), most sites do seem to have at least some trees providing partial shade. Not much privacy between sites, but that didn't really bother us.  There are lots of walking "roads" (dirt roads) to the various lakes. All in all, we were glad to have a site and would return if needed again.

Secluded and well maintained

This is reclaimed land from an old phosphate mine.

The mine was closed 20 years ago and the land was reclaimed and turned into a beautified park and campground. The trees have had time to mature. There are four lakes, campsites are located on one of the bigger lakes. Like all parks some site are better than others, none are bad.  We had the end site on the lake that was very private. The campground and amenities  are extremely well maintained.

Lots of very nice trails around the lakes and surrounding woods. the trial's are wide and hard backed. we were able to ride our electric scoters on them easily.  Park is located in a rural area of central Florida. We used is as a halfway stop when traveling form the west coast to the east coast of Florida.

Tip: There are two brothers that sell firewood not to far from the campground.

You can go there your self or they will deliver to you. Camp office can give you their contact info.

Great Get Away

Hardee Lakes Park is a nice quiet park. Camp sites are nice and clean, with beautiful lake views.

Stayed at a non-electric site right on the lake. Fire pit is great and camp hosts even recommended a local small biz that will bring you firewood.

Trail system is great from dirt paths to boardwalks to cut straight through the woods.

Bath house was clean and in good working order.

Overall a great quiet place to visit for a connection with nature.
