Best RV Parks & Resorts near Boca Grande, FL

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV resorts surround Boca Grande along the southwest Florida coast, primarily managed by Encore hospitality. Harbor Lakes RV Resort in Port Charlotte offers full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. Sites accommodate big rigs but spacing between units tends to be tight. "The resort was mixed in with full timers and mobile homes. The rvs were shoved in between these homes and permanent spots," notes one visitor on The Dyrt. Gulf View RV Resort in Punta Gorda and Royal Coachman in Nokomis both provide year-round motorhome sites with 50-amp service, although site quality varies between locations.

Most Boca Grande area RV parks operate year-round with peak season running December through April. During winter months, many parks fill with long-term seasonal residents, making advance reservations essential. Pull-through sites are limited at several facilities, with many offering back-in configurations that require careful maneuvering. Dump stations and full sewer hookups are standard at nearly all parks, though older electrical connections may need maintenance according to guest feedback. Pet policies vary, with most locations allowing dogs but maintaining specific restrictions. Parks located closer to Fort Myers Beach provide convenient beach access approximately 3-4 miles away, while inland locations offer more spacious sites but require longer drives to reach Gulf waters.

Palmetto Ridge Campground — Myakka River State Park

    Enormous park

I’m staying in the Palmetto Ridge loop which is the only paved loop & I think the only one w/sewer. The Big Flats & Old Prairie loops are gravel road, tight, no privacy & very small sites like for popups, vans or small campers. The Palmetto Ridge pull thrus are gigantic. I would say the vegetation gives semi privacy but they aren’t on top of each other so it’s not like you’re looking right at your neighbor. There is a picnic table & a fire ring. Gravel sites but pretty level. My site was 50 amp. Not sure how many are. Bath house & laundry facility appears clean. Pet friendly. The outpost is literally like 3 miles into the park down from the entrance & Palmetto loop. The store was nice & there was a food truck. It was a little spendy but good food. The river was low so the kayak rental & boat tours were shut down. Tons of great hiking & even some elevated bridges for site seeing. Tons of gators, birds, deer etc. There is also a scenic drive in the park, a “fisherman’s loop” & a few picnic areas. There are cabins to rent but I didn’t see them. Also never saw a playground if you have kids. Very dark & quiet at night.

    Sea Isle Resort

    Convenient to Matlacha

Our stay here was a bit weird. Since it was March in Florida (and nearly impossible to find available campsites unless you reserved 11 months in advance), we called ahead to see if there was room. When Carl learned we only had a 17-foot camper van, he agreed to “fit us in”. Yes, there was a slot that we backed into and we had room to erect our screen room on the concrete pad next to our van but there was absolutely NO privacy between sites. Many of the people here were long-term residents and not generally vacationing campers. Although information says the rates range from $30-$60 per night, we paid $50, cash only. There were no restrooms on-site, but we were able to use the clean restrooms at the county park across the street (but had to make a mad dash across the busy road to get there). It suited our needs for two nights to enjoy small and quirky Matlacha, including walking distance to kayaking opportunities, but we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

    Myakka River RV Resort

    Low Key Campground

We stayed here for a week and overall it’s a solid, no frills place to stay. Level & compact sites with concrete patio pads. Our site backed right up to the marsh, which had a lot of birds & wildlife. There’s a pool, laundry, fenced dog area, and WiFi (for an extra fee). Verizon cell service was solid & always had connection. Mostly long term residents here but they are really friendly & helpful.

    Koreshan State Park Campground

Our favorite place close to home

We camp Koreshan because it is literally less than 10 minutes from our house. We can set up camp and stay throughput the week even if the kids have school. It’s hard to book a weekend at any Florida campground in season so plan ahead if you want a Florida State park. This campground has short trails to hike through beautiful bamboo forests. A ramp for putting in your kayaks or SUPs as well as kayak rental. Locations to fish the river. You are a 20 minute drive to the beach from here. Very centrally located to shopping and farmers markets. Koreshan has a farmers market there at the park I believe on Sundays. The campsites have a fire pit and wood is sold at the entrance. It is a historic site of the early settlers of the area from the late 1800’s so there are historical buildings on site to tour. It is a pet friendly campground. The only reason I give this campground 4* rather than 5 is because of the road noise from Hwy 41 that it is off. It’s quite peaceful until you get a motorcycle racing up and down the highway at 2am. They do have specific sites if you wish to camp in hammocks. If you google the campground you should be able to find out which sites those are.

    Great getaway

Clean, well-maintained campground consisting of 30 spots spread out along the edges of a boomerang-shaped island. All except for 3 sites are waterfront. Sites 22-30 and 8 boat slips are on the South end with a large parking area, boat launch, picnic area, and bath house. On the North end there is a larger bath house and picnic area along with sites 1-21. There are a few drive thru sites (11 & 19-22) and the rest are nicely angled. The concrete parking pads are level and the pea gravel is well tended. All sites have 30/50 amp electric, water, covered picnic table, and fire pit. No sewer at the sites. Dump station near the exit. There isn't much shade due to immature trees and palms. Nice fishing pier and a lending library near the middle. For kayakers the launch ramp is good and some sites on the inland side have good slope and shallow water to launch from directly. Sites facing the river are in the restricted waterway area near the locks so no boats are allowed. This is a nice quiet place to decompress.

    Craig's RV Park

    Very friendly residents and staff

This is a campground for long-term campers. There are many snowbirds who spend winters here. Between a third and half of the sites are permanent campers. There are tons of activities for campers including dances, community dinners, bingo, monthly bluegrass concerts, shuffleboard, pool, cards, horseshoes, bocce ball, a driving range and walking/biking track, and much more. There is a laundromat and shower building and a nice, screened swimming pool. A wonderful place!

    Periwinkle Park

    Sanibel Island on a Budget

Sanibel Island is a great vacation spot full of vacation homes, white sand beaches, and world-class shell hunting. This is the only campsite available on the entire island, and as a result it is a bit pricier than most camp sites, but it is far and away the most economical way to see the island. It is driving f distance from most of the local tourist sites we stayed for a week and never ran out of things to do.

The campground is less than a mile from the beach, easily walkable and even easier to bike. The campsite is designed to acomódate RV camping and long term mobile home set ups, however there are some lots available for tents as well. Due to the RV and location in city limits there are no campfires allowed, but grills are allowed and the site has very well kept and clean shower/bathroom facilities.

Guide to Boca Grande

RV sites near Boca Grande, Florida provide varied camping options in southwest Florida's subtropical climate, where winter temperatures typically range from 55-75°F. Most Boca Grande area campgrounds sit at near sea level elevation with flat terrain, making for easy setup but potential drainage issues during Florida's rainy season from June through September.

What to do

Kayaking on the Myakka River: Encore Ramblers Rest provides direct access to paddling opportunities. "If you like to kayak, this is the place for you. Right on the river. Very nice," notes a reviewer who stayed for a month.

Beach exploration: Camping spots within 10 miles of Gulf beaches offer convenient ocean access. A camper at Fort Myers / Pine Island KOA Holiday mentioned they were "less than a mile and half from beaches, legacy bike trail and Main Street Venice, FL."

Shark tooth hunting: Venice beaches near camping areas are known for unique fossil hunting opportunities. A Royal Coachman visitor pointed out that "Venice is a favorite small florida city, famous for its beaches full of fossilized sharks teeth, Sharky's fishing pier, interesting jetty's."

What campers like

Clean pool facilities: Encore Harbor Lakes receives positive feedback for its aquatic amenities. One emergency overnight camper stated, "Pool was great, neighbors were friendly and very helpful. Park was clean and orderly."

Community activities: Many parks offer recreational programs during winter months. At Encore Royal Coachman, guests appreciate that "amenities include minigolf, putting and driving range, horse shoes, tennis, basketball, badminton, ping pong, pool, large swimming pool, volleyball, kayaking and more."

Wildlife viewing: Natural areas within campgrounds provide opportunities for animal sightings. One Harbor Lakes visitor noted the "lots of wildlife: birds, alligators, and rabbits" visible within the property.

What you should know

Site spacing concerns: Many RV parks near Boca Grande have limited space between units. A reviewer at Encore Fort Myers Beach observed, "we couldn't even put our awning all the way out for fear it would hit the next trailer."

Mixed-use parks: Most facilities combine vacation campers with permanent residents. A visitor to Gulf View RV Resort commented, "Some of the sites are very nice and well kept and others look like they have very long term residents who don't clean up after themselves very well."

Flooding potential: Low-lying areas can experience water accumulation after storms. A camper at Ramblers Rest noted, "The only complaints I have is that when it rains frequently (summer months) the ground tends to become saturated with water. Many times we had 2" plus of standing water outside our RV."

Tips for camping with families

Pool options: Encore Gulf Air provides family-friendly amenities with beach proximity. "Great place to spend the winter. 3 miles from the beach," notes one camper, making it convenient for families wanting both pool and ocean options.

Space considerations: Families with children should request sites away from permanent residences. A visitor to Fort Myers Beach RV Resort with children found spaces tight, stating their "site was so tight they were miserable and left a day early. They had a pop up camper with 5 children and 4 adults, 2 cars parked next to them."

Activity planning: Winter months see higher occupancy with more scheduled events. At Pioneer Village, one seasonal camper observed "the locals prominently making the social life active and fun. I have met families, retirees, and some are in RVs, some bought a place."

Tips from RVers

Advance planning required: Many RV campsites near Boca Grande fill months ahead for winter stays. A resident at NOFO GROVES Getaway mentioned their extended stay from "March to October 2023," demonstrating the long-term nature of many reservations.

Electrical connections: Verify power specifications before booking. Campgrounds like Royal Coachman offer 50-amp service, while others provide 30-amp connections that may limit appliance usage in larger RVs.

Site selection priority: Request specific sites when possible. At Harbor Lakes, one RVer reported disappointment when "they wedged us into a spot between two permanent trailers which was disappointing, especially since there were open spots available."
