Best RV Parks & Resorts near Sarasota, FL

Sarasota and surrounding communities host several RV-friendly options with full-hookup sites for various rig sizes. Sun N Fun RV Resort provides year-round access with 50-amp electrical hookups, water, and sewer connections on spacious pull-through rv pads that accommodate larger motorhomes. Encore Winter Quarters Manatee in Bradenton features lakeside spots with full hookups, though site spacing can be tight for big rig navigation. Pleasant Lake RV Resort and Linger Lodge RV Park offer additional motorhome sites, with the latter providing both 30-amp and 50-amp service across its 139 sites. "The sites are close and there are permanent cabins in between sites," noted one visitor about Winter Quarters Manatee.

Interstate 75 proximity creates convenient access for larger rigs but introduces road noise at several parks, particularly at sites backing up to the highway. Most resorts maintain year-round operations with peak season extending from January through March, when advance reservations become essential. Sanitary dump stations are standard at nearly all facilities, while amenities vary significantly between properties - some featuring heated pools, pickleball courts, and organized activities while others provide more basic services. Pet policies differ between resorts, with Pleasant Lake prohibiting pets entirely while most others maintain designated dog areas. Cell coverage remains strong throughout the region, benefiting from the urban infrastructure. Travelers seeking waterfront parking should consider Buttonwood Inlet or Horseshoe Cove, both offering boat-in access options alongside traditional motorhome sites.

Palmetto Ridge Campground — Myakka River State Park

    Enormous park

I’m staying in the Palmetto Ridge loop which is the only paved loop & I think the only one w/sewer. The Big Flats & Old Prairie loops are gravel road, tight, no privacy & very small sites like for popups, vans or small campers. The Palmetto Ridge pull thrus are gigantic. I would say the vegetation gives semi privacy but they aren’t on top of each other so it’s not like you’re looking right at your neighbor. There is a picnic table & a fire ring. Gravel sites but pretty level. My site was 50 amp. Not sure how many are. Bath house & laundry facility appears clean. Pet friendly. The outpost is literally like 3 miles into the park down from the entrance & Palmetto loop. The store was nice & there was a food truck. It was a little spendy but good food. The river was low so the kayak rental & boat tours were shut down. Tons of great hiking & even some elevated bridges for site seeing. Tons of gators, birds, deer etc. There is also a scenic drive in the park, a “fisherman’s loop” & a few picnic areas. There are cabins to rent but I didn’t see them. Also never saw a playground if you have kids. Very dark & quiet at night.

    Horseshoe Cove RV Resort

    Great short or long stay

I live local and have been staying here in the pull through area a month until I transition to 100% travel trailer life. I have 2 50 lb+ dogs and there are many other people with dogs, plus a dog park. Park is very well kept, beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes. Love this place! Maintenance is A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!! I will be staying here again for short and extended periods and feel more than comfortable to recommend to friends and family. Laundry facilities and bathrooms are fine too. Dryers dry a full load of towels in one cycle, was pretty impressive! Also plenty of area to ride a bike a couple times around the park. It is also close to gas, grocery store and really good restaurants. Two thumbs up!!!

    Edward Medard Park

    Gem of the County

What a beautiful well kept facility near suburbia. Just a short drive from Tampa and Lakeland areas this first come first served facility is a favorite of locals. Full service for RV's (even a dump station. Clean, monitored bathroom facilities close to lots of additional activities! Kayaking and fishing on the lake is a blast! Frisbee Golf (this is an advanced course) equestrian and hiking trails, picnic and playground areas. Pet friendly but there were more than a few stray cats when we were there (a problem the rangers are trying to address). Midweek is best time to visit as weekends fill fast (usually by Thursday night)

    Myakka River RV Resort

    Low Key Campground

We stayed here for a week and overall it’s a solid, no frills place to stay. Level & compact sites with concrete patio pads. Our site backed right up to the marsh, which had a lot of birds & wildlife. There’s a pool, laundry, fenced dog area, and WiFi (for an extra fee). Verizon cell service was solid & always had connection. Mostly long term residents here but they are really friendly & helpful.

    MacDill AFB FamCamp

    Utilitarian

No surprise on a military base but felt like a campground equivalent of base housing. Tight spots with full hook ups. Lots of snow birds, so getting in was a challenge. We had to show up without a reservation and take advantage of first come, first serve spots.

Full hook up (electric/water/sewer) and cable. No wifi (so weak it didn't work) and cell coverage almost non-existent (AT&T).

Close to a small beach and marina with a restaurant walking distance. Several dog parks but muddy/dirt. Laundry available for fee. Bath houses clean and large.

Good amenities on base. Gym not too far and massive.

Make sure you arrive at the base through the gate at the end of Dale Mabry, as it's the only gate campers can come thru. And be sure to go to the far right lane, even if it's got a red X showing the lane is closed. They will open the wider lane for you. You don't want to know why I know that or how close our Airstream was to the guard shacks if you don't go in the far lane!

    Oscar Scherer State Park Campground

Small Park not far from civilization

Oscar Scherer is full of wildlife, not far from lots of big cities.   The campground itself is small but nice.  Lost of sites back up to a small river but those sites right on the river are not kid or pet friendly so be careful when you make reservations.   There are a lot of trails throughout the park. Many are scrub oak communities and consequently there’s a fair population of scrub jays.   We also saw otters, bobcat, raccoon and gopher tortoise.   The park is also adjacent to the Legacy bike trail.  A linear trail that runs from Sarasota to Venice, FL.  So there’s some long bike rides opportunities.   Bathhouses are ok maybe a 7/10.

    Oscar Scherer State Park Campground

Camping in the Heart of Sarasota County

We live very close to Oscar Scherer enjoy camping getaways. The sites are private fairly big, and well kept. There are no full hookups but there are 5 pull through sites. The hiking, biking, and kayaking is great. If you are visiting the area, it's a perfect location in Central Sarasota. Venice is 15 minutes south, Sarasota is 20 minutes north, the beach is 10 minutes away. There are great restaurants in the area. So if you want to getaway and never leave, there's plenty to do without leaving the park. If you want to see Sarasota County, then this a great place to.use as home base.

    Fort De Soto Campground

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

I loved** Fort De Soto State Park**, Florida! My favorite for this trip as far as location and atmosphere . But this may be because I seldom visit the beach type campgrounds and it’s something unique to me. If you don’t like sand in everything you may not pick this as your favorite;)

In the campground there are two loops. Most of the outer sites in each area had access to the water, some had direct access where people parked their watercraft for their visit.

In the first loop all the middle sites were long and pull through with a screen of foliage between each site. Suited for the bigger rigs. The second loop had smaller sites and the road was a little “skinnier” more for pop ups and tents. It was a little more crowded in the middle sites and less of a foliage screen between sites.

Overall both areas were very Gilligan’s Island homey if you were on a cruise ship that ran aground and everyone made their “homes” in the same area ;) It is a well maintained area with centrally located facilities. There is an inlet for fishing and short trail within easy walking distance or you can strike out on the long paved trail.

Recreationally speaking aside from the water sports there was a hike/ bike trail the entire length of the park with access to several beach areas and fishing piers. Then there is the Fort to explore if you like your history and a ferry service within the park. Another thing was a triathlon going on while we visited at the far end of the park, the swim portion would have been a definite challenge, the bike was on flat roads and I didn’t see the run portion but if it was on the sand that would be a workout!

I saved the best for last (in my opinion) there is a TOTALLY AWESOME DOG BEACH which was definitely the main reason I picked the park to visit. A nice stretch of beach where my dogs had an excellent time playing in the water, weeds and sand. There are two fenced dog parks with seats, shade and dog wash areas to rinse off the sand before heading back out. All of this is very close to a touristy area with coffee shops, fuel and other necessities. But you would never know it if you just stay in the park, it just feels very .....detached from the city.

A thumb and three paws up for this park!

Guide to Sarasota

Sarasota area rv parks operate under specific county regulations that affect overnight stays. Most campsites require advance booking through official reservation systems rather than walk-up registration. Water conservation restrictions impact shower and hookup usage during dry season months from November to May, when average rainfall drops below 2.5 inches monthly. Proximity to multiple barrier islands creates diverse camping microclimates within a 15-mile radius.

What to do

Kayaking on the Myakka River: Access the waterway directly from Encore Ramblers Rest, which sits on the riverbank. "If you like to kayak, this is the place for you. Right on the river. Very nice," notes one visitor. The river offers gentle currents suitable for beginners with numerous wildlife viewing opportunities.

Pickleball tournaments: Sun N Fun RV Resort maintains 18 dedicated courts with regular organized play. "Awesome Facillities good pool many activities 18 Pickleball courts," mentions a reviewer. Courts open daily from 8am-8pm with equipment rentals available at the main office for $5 per day.

Fishing access: Several parks offer direct fishing without traveling to public piers. "The lake is beautiful and our neighbors have been lovely. Also, I am really grateful for the location. Not too terrible a distance from Anna Marie Island, or Tampa!" reports a guest at Winter Quarters Manatee. Check with park offices for required Florida fishing licenses.

What campers like

Resort-style pools: Linger Lodge RV Park provides upscale aquatic amenities uncommon at traditional campgrounds. "The pool and spa are spectacular and we enjoyed relaxing on the pool deck. Everything is very clean and well maintained," according to a recent visitor. Most parks maintain heated pools year-round with extended hours during summer months.

Proximity to beaches: Buttonwood Inlet positions campers less than a mile from Gulf Coast shorelines. "It is in a very desirable location- 0.8 miles to the beach and 0.2 miles from an awesome fish taco place- Tide Tables," shares one reviewer. Campers note that morning beach visits avoid afternoon thunderstorms common from June through September.

Clean facilities: Horseshoe Cove RV Resort maintains well-kept common areas despite high occupancy rates. "Park is very well kept, beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes. Love this place! Maintenance is AMAZING!" Maintenance teams typically service restrooms twice daily during peak season.

What you should know

Interstate noise: Multiple parks experience traffic sounds due to I-75 proximity. "The only downside is that you are close to I75, and there is construction currently underway," warns a Winter Quarters Manatee camper. Request interior sites when booking if noise sensitivity is a concern.

Site spacing challenges: Many parks feature tightly arranged spots, especially during peak winter months. "We had a 5 site group and had no problems. The pool is small. We would come back," notes a Buttonwood Inlet guest, while another adds: "Sites are paved and level but small."

Snowbird season impacts: January through March brings maximum occupancy to Pleasant Lake RV Resort, affecting availability and services. "Spent a few months here at the end of 2021 and could not have been happier with the experience. Well maintained campground with quite a few year-round residents it was pretty, clean, quiet, and conveniently located," explains a reviewer. Reservation lead times exceed 6 months for prime winter dates.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access timing: Visit water facilities during non-peak hours for less crowding. "The kids enjoyed the slide (limited hours…ask ahead), and the warm pool was refreshing," advises a Sun N Fun camper. Morning hours before 10am typically offer quieter swimming conditions.

Proximity to attractions: Choose parks with convenient access to regional family destinations. "First impression, the front desk worker was very informative and quite kind. However, there is no security gate. As a momma with young kiddos, that does make me nervous. The lake is beautiful and our neighbors have been lovely," shares a Winter Quarters Manatee visitor.

Activity scheduling: Parks offer varying organized recreation options. "This place was amazing. Tons of activities. Super friendly staff and golf cart rentals. Pool was huge!! Love it," reports a Sun N Fun guest. Request current activity calendars when checking in as schedules change seasonally.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose spots based on specific needs rather than price alone. "Sites are close together but neighbors are super friendly. Very clean," observes a Ramblers Rest visitor. Corner sites typically provide slightly more space despite similar pricing.

Electrical considerations: Some parks experience power fluctuations during peak usage. "We had a power issue with 30 amp but 50 amp was ok," notes a Buttonwood Inlet RVer. Surge protectors are recommended equipment for all hookups in this region.

Supply access: Most rv parks in Sarasota, Florida provide convenient proximity to retail necessities. "We stayed here twice on the way down to the keys and on the way back. Very convenient location and close to Walmart and Costco. We will definitely be back!" shares an Encore Winter Quarters guest.
