Within Suwannee River State Park, this 30-site campground operates year-round under Florida's Division of Recreation and Parks management. All sites include full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The campground accommodates RVs up to 45 feet, with two ADA-accessible sites featuring concrete driveways while the remaining sites have gravel surfaces.
Sites cluster closely together in a single loop configuration with minimal vegetation between them. jessica O. notes "most are fully shaded with the tree cover" from the surrounding pine forest, though privacy remains limited. The sandy ground requires floor mats for tent camping. A modern bathhouse provides clean facilities with strong water pressure and hot water, plus separate changing areas in each shower stall.
Multiple hiking trails wind through the park, including a 12.5-mile option alongside shorter walks along the Suwannee River and Lime Sink Run. The boat ramp provides river access for paddling and fishing. Greg S. describes the location as "jungle-like" with "palmettos and live oaks everywhere." Cell service proves spotty, with T-Mobile showing one bar and Verizon offering minimal coverage.
The security gate closes at sunset and requires a code for after-hours entry. Interstate 10, US Highway 90, and occasional freight trains create background noise throughout the night. Live Oak sits seven miles east via I-10, providing grocery stores and fuel stations. Reservations are available online, though a transaction fee applies. For different camping experiences, campers can explore campgrounds around Live Oak or check out Blue Sky Farm four miles south.
Description
At the intersection of the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers, patches of rain lilies spring up on earthen mounds built to defend against Union Navy gunboats. Sunwannee River Campground is alive with history. Visitors can see remnants of a nineteenth-century steamship and two ghost towns that have been reclaimed by the sandhill wilderness, which is home to diverse and imperiled native species. On foot or by canoe, experiencing the park’s historical significance is its own timeless reward.
Located near the Suwannee River, the campground offers 30 oak-shaded sites with electricity, water, sewer, picnic table and fire ring. Three campsites are ADA accessible. The campground offers an ADA accessible restroom with showers. A dump station is also available.
Pets are welcome but must be kept on a 6-foot leash controlled by the pet's owner. Maximum RV length = 45 feet.
