Quiet camping in the "real" Florida

General: 30-site campground, all with full hookups (water, electric - 30 and 50 amp - and sewer). Two of the sites are handicap accessible with concrete driveways; the others are gravel. There are also cabins which looked very nice. We received a call from the ranger since the ranger station would close before our arrival letting us know the gate code (although it turned out the gate was still open), and where to pick up our hang tag and park information.

Site Quality: All sites appeared to be level. Not much privacy/separation between sites and with the exception of one of the handicapped sites, it was full when we were there on a weekday at the end of October. A picnic table and fire grate complete the site.

Bathhouse: Very clean. Didn’t use the shower so cannot comment on them but they looked very clean.

Activities/Amenities: Several hiking trails, most of them short in length but there was one 12.5-mile trail. The trails are all well-marked. There is also a boat ramp. Nice modern washer and dryer for a very reasonable cost of $1.50 each

This was just an overnight stopover for us but we did walk partway on Lime Sink Run, Balanced Rock, and Suwanee River Trails. It looks like they are making improvements to the park, including a wooden boardwalk and a new bridge on the Suwanee River Trail. If there was more separation/privacy between sites, would have given this four stars.

Little elbow room or privacy

Nice state park with access to the Suwannee River. There is a scenic hiking trail along the river. The campground has a few sites with vegetation and space in between, but most sites are close together and have little vegetation. The restrooms were clean and the camp hosts were great.

Great State Park

We camped there the weekend of April 29th. The sites are close together, but neighbors were friendly so didn’t really mind. The park has great trails and is well marked. Staff works super hard to keep up the park. We stayed until Monday so saw them clean up after the Sunday rush out. Bathrooms are clean

Small remote campground in the forest

Great little state park just off I-10 in North Florida. Only 30 sites and all are FHU. It’s in the middle of a pine forest so not much vegetation between sites but most are fully shaded with the tree cover. Our site #10 had sewer hook up at the edge of the road so difficult to use but we made it work before we left. The booking site says sites are gravel but they are actually for, so be sure to bring a mat and broom. Bathhouse was SPOTLESS and had 3 showers and 4 stalls each. Great water pressure and plenty of hot water, plus a separate changing area and bench in the shower stall. Trails were in good shape and the scenery along the river was beautiful! Rangers and volunteers were wonderful.

Wild nature at its finest

Beautiful and jungle-like location. Feels more remote and away from civilization than it is. Very quiet campground and a big bonus that every site is full hookup. The trails are amazing. Rangers are very pleasant and the facilities are clean. The sites aren't very spaced out or private (but it was still very quiet), and it is very buggy (to be expected in low country), otherwise it would be 5 stars. The palmettos and live oaks everywhere were magical. Definitely worth a trip, just bring bug spray.

Four stars for trails, 3 stars for campground sites

This campground had some nice trails within easy walking distance of the campground. The trails we did were good casual walks - these aren’t “hiking” trails, but very pleasant walks beside the river and a creek. The campground itself is small with sites very close to each other (compared to other FL state park campgrounds). Very little foliage separating most sites, so not much privacy other than what is provided by the RVs themselves. Zero cell coverage (barely able to text, no Internet/streaming access at all) on Verizon which made working remotely from this park impossible. We were in site 10. By the way, when booking, they refer to Inner loop and Outer loop. It’s all the same loop. Inner and outer just refers to your site’s position in the loop.

Pleasant and fun!

I stayed at the Suwannee River State Park at the beginning of February. Getting there and getting set up was very easy! Each spot had a fire ring and picnic table. There were tons of hikes and things to look at and do. We even canoed we he Suwannee and were picked up at our campsite and paddled back to the park- so fun and easy! The spots were a bit close together with little privacy. The bathrooms were clean and conveniently located. There were lots of friendly dogs as well!

Small with great hiking.

Small and controlled campground. A little less privacy than we would prefer on inner sites but well maintained. Sewage hook up on site which is always nice. Hiking is great and miles of trail. Hiking along the river is beautiful. Fantastic cabins. Only downside is the campground often fills up quick.

Lots of HUGE Class A's in and out... fun to watch! Sneaky squirrels that will take your half a burger while you try to set up camp, we had a great laugh about that!

Tent camping on the Suwannee!

Stayed at site 029 in our tent with our family of 5. We loved it. The campground was quiet, relaxing, and shaded. The park, and bathroom was well maintained and very clean. There is a train that comes roughly 2 times a night after midnight. Kids all slept through it so no problem there. Decent little swimming area to the side of the boat ramp. We loved the hikes went on 3 of them. There were a few more we didn't have time to explore. Don't miss out on the hiking though really cool trails! We went on a 7 mile canoe trip reccomended to us by our campground host. Cost was not too much and we were shuttled up stream. We loved staying here!
