Water access and dog friendly!

Amazing water access and dog friendly! The staff and rangers are kind and helpful. During our stay, there was E. coli in water which means water activities and fishing were restricted. Lots of raccoons and no see-ums. Bring citronella candles. Overall, beautiful park and friendly people. Would definitely return.

Excellent stay

I was in town for a clinic and didn't want to stay downtown in a hotel. I found this little gym. Traffic to the city was a pain, and parking was iffy at best. However the campsite was nice and quiet. There is a sushi place down the road I highly recommend. The reviews of the Raccoons are no joke and saw one the size of a bear cub but harmless for sure. The bathroom and shower were what you expected from a park. Everything was clean. I doubt I will ever be back that way. However, if I am, I won't hesitate to stay there again.

Noseeums and Raccoons

This park has a lot of great amenities. The kayaking is amazing in this park, you will see a lot of wild life like manatees and dolphins. The bad and ugly is that the noseeums will drive you crazy and you literally need to bade in repellent. The other problem are the raccoons, the will get everything and everywhere, they are not afraid of people. Please do not feed them because it will make the problem worse. The weather here was great the five nights we camped.

Not so good anymore

I've been coming here for years and this was the first time that we came and it now looks like a dump. Every amenity was full of trash and even thrown away cloths. Oh and the grass was super tall making it hard to get to your vehicle without getting clippings all over you.

Despierta temprano

Wonderful water access

Showers arent amazing but thats not why we are here is it? Lots of loud kids today. Ability to stay long term allows squatters. Most folks very nice and respectful.

Big campground with lot's of waterfront sites

We have stayed here many times the last time we had site # 65 on the water with water and electric hook up & there is a dump station onsite. This is a nice campground with a beach, little island you can wade to we always see Manatees there and. lots of great areas to Kayak or paddle board. They rent kayaks here. When you kayak down the channel into Tamp Bay what a great view of Tampa, St. Petersburg and the Skyway bridge.  Beautiful sunsets from the beach and boat ramp or out in the kayak. Good fishing back in the canals and Cockroach Bay is up the road good kayaking and fishing there.

The bath house's are nice & kept very clean. There are 2 loops we like the East campground the best sites in this loop are #72 then #70. All the sites along the water on this side are nice. The bugs can be bad this time they were bad last year no problem. We had a screened room that has a no see um mesh on it and we blast a big fan in there so we do stay semi bug free. So glad we had this screened room. During the week its very quiet there yet on Fridays it packs in and Sunday it clears out again.

There's some great day use areas, nice park

Very Nice Campground

We live close so when we want  quick getaway this is where we go. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is they don't do reservations.(first come first served).

Small, but nice

This park is small, but never too crowded. The water is easily accessible. The beach area is small. There is a playground for children.

lots of "No See-ums" and raccoons

Okay so maybe the title isn't very nice but that is what stands out to me when I think of this campground. The sites are very large and there is water and electric hook-ups and a dump station nearby. you really cannot stay outside at dusk. citronella Torches, spray, fans,Avon skin so soft...none of these work for the no see-ums. During the day, go out and fish, kayak , grill or hang at the beach. Lots of things to do here and great waterfront sites available on first come first serve basis.

Nice, lots to do here!

Paved roads, packed sand and grass sites, 30A and water at each site, two separate campgrounds each with a dump station and bath house. First come (no reservations) with 14 day stay limit. We were in site 55 of the East CG which was right on the water where we launched our kayaks to paddle the canals amongst the Mangroves.

Great place to paddle a kayak in the Mangrove canals. Right on Tampa Bay. Public swim area and picnic area. Lots of paved roads which was great for biking. Several Osprey nests and other birds to watch on the water.

Nothing Great

I did not have an awful time (because I could fish) but the gates to the area did close a little earlier than I would like. On the bright side it is a large area.

Reviewed Jul. 2, 2016

Clean, well kept and seldom full

Nearly every campsite is right on the water - easy in and out for kayaks, large boat ramp and many picnic pavilions. Great trails for bike riding and wonderful for saltwater fishing among the mangroves. Being close to the water you will have insects and raccoons so be prepared for a great time by being prepared for these pests. In late 2016/early 2017 one camping loop will be closed for refurbishing.
