    Eastford, Connecticut

THE IDEAL GETAWAY: Charlie Brown Campground is located in the peaceful, pre-revolutionary town of Eastford, Connecticut. It is nestled among rolling hills, sleepy rivers and 12,000 plus acres of state park and forests. With miles of nature trails for horseback riding, biking, walking and some of the best fishing in the state, Charlie Brown Campground offers families an ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. GREAT LOCATION: Less than 40 miles from Hartford or Providence, Charlie Brown Campground is far enough to get away from it all but still right in your own back yard. This seasonal campground is well revered for its more than 30 landscaped and manicured acres and especially for its 85 grassy, over sized campsites that are perfect for family gatherings and can easily accommodate the largest RV or camper. FUNCTION HALL RENTAL: Our awesome Recreation Hall with its stone fireplace, new heating system and full kitchen facilities is now available to rent for various functions. Affordable, convenient, and a great place for your special event, the hall might be just right for you. CONVENIENCES: This picturesque campground may be full of country charm but it is still savvy enough to provide guests with wireless, high-speed internet, 16 channels of Direct TV cable and 30 or 50 AMP electrical service, arcade style video games and a large screen TV with full surround sound for watching movies or the big game or race. UNIQUELY SCENIC: With a leisurely drive from Charlie Brown Campground, over scenic byways and through quaint towns formed when the country was still young, you will soon find yourself amongst country fairs, rustic farms, historic landmarks and friendly locals. The swimming hole at CBC marks the head of the Natchaug River. This class IV drop pool river is just as thrilling for kayakers during the spring thaw as it is for the anglers, both young and old, when it slows down during warmer months becoming the second most heavily stocked Trophy Rivers in the state. LOCAL CHARM: Time seems to slow down as you stroll through the areas famous antiques district, visit museums or treat yourself and the kids to a farm fresh ice cream cone at one of the many roadside dairy stands. Just a little further off the beaten path you and your family can experience the New England tradition of crafting maple syrup. At a local sugar house, you can see and taste how sap is collected and then boiled down to make maple syrup and sugar. For another local treat, stop off at one of the areas' many apple orchards. Here you and your children can pick crisp juicy apples right off the trees, pick out a carving pumpkin and even go for a tractor or horse drawn hay ride as you sip on fresh-pressed apple cider. FUN or JUST RELAXING: Whatever your inclination might be, Charlie Brown Campground has many wonderful activities and special events to offer throughout the season. Great care is taken to ensure that there is an abundance of camping activities such as themed weekends, barbecues, moon bounces, pony rides, horseshoe tournaments, entertainment, etc. to choose from so that your stay will not only be fun and memorable, but will keep you coming back again and again.

    Best campground!

This place is a dream. Stayed here for a month in the fall. Campground is situated in a beautiful valley with a little pond, hiking trails, playground, jumping pillow, swimming pool and hot tub. Owner is very involved, energetic, and friendly. There are events for the kids every weekend and it’s such a fun environment! Will definitely be back!

Great family campground close to beach

Update number 2: I told you I come here a lot, we did bingo and it was a blast. It was a beautiful day on the beach pond. They had great prizes for cheap cost. I spent 2 dollars for 10 long rounds of bingo with 4 cards. Who can beat that!!?? My son won a game prize worth 5 times that. I had to give the rest of the money I had as a tip because I was so happy with how everything worked out. They are always updating, someone broke the basketball 🏀 hoop on one side and it’s fixed 2 weeks later.

Update: They have changed days for me many times when I had issues with the camper. Never once asked questions or even treated me differently. No extra cost. You might have have to change spots but I don’t care. They are so easy to work with. Thanks guys

Great Value and Nice Family owned business. The lake is perfect, the river needs work. But this an awesome small campground. The kids who work here are so friendly and the playground is nice. They did a show on the beach one night that was fun too. We did bingo too. Have been going for 2 years and started with tenting up to a trailer. I love coming here and wish I could spend more time. Really close to Hammonassett beach and one of my favorite restaurants the “log cabin”. Make sure you bring Tupperware with you to this place.

Also don’t let other family’s ruin your trip. We had 3 family’s meet up on 2 sites near us and the father and mother just kept yelling at the kids. Made me feel bad for the children but doesn’t make me right a bad review about the campground.

    Getaway Machimoodus

    First Time Glamper!

Getaway is fabulous! My first glamping experience was a winner! Machimoodus is one of the newest outposts just outside Boston and NYC. My bf and I went during one of the snowiest weekends all winter, but it was completely worth it!

First of all, the huge picture window in the cabin is AMAZING. It is just so rejuvenating waking up to freshly fallen snow on the trees - corny I know, but 100% accurate. The cabin was beautiful and rustic, and outfitted with cookware, dishes, a Bluetooth capable radio, essentials like coffee for purchase, books and a shovel for the snow.

Since the outpost was new, the fire pit was brand new, and despite the snow, we were able to cook on it. Very easy to use.

Only critiques would be the lackluster water pressure in the shower and how icy the walkway leading up from the driveway got in the cold weather. The water pressure was a small price to pay, however, and the icy walkway is resolved easily enough wearing micro-spikes.

I can’t recommend enough. It can be a pricy excursion, but the outposts are established in very beautiful settings. I cannot wait to check out more!

    Sutton Falls Camping Area

Georgous, private camping along pristine Aldrich Mill Pond

We were delighted when we learned we had the little peninsula of site P1 all to ourselves. Stunning views across the large pond, and serving as a wonderful halfway rest/respite on the journey from NYC to Belfast, ME. We felt like we were on top of the world, discovering this perfect quiet nook and basking in nature’s splendor.

I can only speak for the camping on this peninsula/land, but the rest of the sites looked cozy, family-friendly, and fun. Cabins and RV sites across the lake, along with beaches for swimming. Bathrooms located on P1 peninsula. Canoe rentals on-site. Lovely picnic dining area alongside covered bridge and waterfall. Completely picturesque and, mostly, totally peaceful!

    Kettletown State Park Campground

Camping in nature, not too far from civilization

Kettletown State Park isn't just for camping. There are also hiking trails , a fishing area and a swimming hole, but the week I was there there was a high bacteria count, so no swimming was allowed. Also, when swimming is allowed, there isnt a lifeguard.

The campsites are varied, you can tent camp, use a camper, or they also have a few cabins you can rent. Be advised, there isn't a kitchen or bathroom in the cabins!

    Bonnie Brae Cabins and Campsites

Small quiet campground near a lake & Mt Greylock

Finally ventured out for a camping trip in this curious season and was delighted to find Bonnie Brae Campground in the Berkshires. It's a compact, clean campground tucked at the end of a quiet neighborhood street, within walking distance to a lake. Many of the RV site are occupied by seasonal campers, and the sites are well-kept. Some of the sites have platforms. This side of the campground was quiet most of the time. The tent and cabin loop circle around the pool area and although you could hear more conversation and noise from this section, everyone was respectful of quiet hours. They also offer a number of cabins for rent with AC and small refrigerator, but no bathrooms. The bathrooms are small, but very clean. They wouldn't meet ADA standards, but there are no drips, stains, or dirt and they seem to check in a couple of times a day to clean up if needed. The pool is now open (delayed this year due to COVID-19) and the kids in particular enjoyed it. You can add a firewood purchase to your reservation and they'll deliver it to your site.

I was in site 28 with a teardrop camper. I could have used leveling blocks because it was hard to find a great spot that was level side to side. Sites 27 & 29 each seemed a little more level and 29 was larger.

Pontoosuc Lake is a short walk away; there are boat rentals available and I saw a number of people fishing from Pontoosuc Park just above the dam. There's a rail trail nearby and Mt Greylock State Reservation offers numerous hiking opportunities 11 miles to the north.

    Great for a group!

We camped here with a group of friends - about a dozen in all. It was easy to coordinate with the staff to get a few tent sites and a cabin in close distance. Campsites were a bit minimal, and amenities were OK. Overall we were looking for a quiet and clean space and this was excellent for that.

Have a small camp store. But downtown Pittsfield very close by. They have a pool. The owners were very professional and friendly . We will return..

    Great campground

Easy entry, long pull thrus. You will face your neighbor door to door but enough room between you don't feel invaded. Restrooms are clean and spacious. Showers are great. Whoever planned this campground is/was a camper. They have cabins, teepee and tent sites. This is attached to an amusement park but far enough away not to be a bother. If ever in the area again we will definitely stay again.

    Quiet near the city

Fantastic campground not too far from New York. Super quiet, private campgrounds nestled in the trees, right on a river. This is an anglers campground, so there was some serious fishing going on. Not many kids or partiers. We jumped in the river and got out of the heat. Easy to get a reservation. Favorite spot to camp outside the city. Also lots of little cabins if you dont want to rent camp.

    Best Camping Experience

This was our families first time staying at Brialee Campground.  The cabin was absolutely beautiful and clean.  The staff were friendly and helpful. The activities were great and kept my grand children busy.  Swimming and the lake were fun.  I cannot say enough wonderful things.  We had such a great time I booked my reservations for Next July 2025 before I left.

    Great place!

Hidden Acres is a great family campground. Family-owned and it’s got a really friendly group of family and staff. Sites are nice and the restrooms/showers are the cleanest I’ve seen anywhere. Lots of fun at the beach, kayaking on the lake or just hanging at your site. Petting zoo, craft cabin, arcade, bingo and lots more! While you’re there, run down to the snack shop for yummy snacks, meals and ice cream sundaes! Definitely a must-camp if you’re in the area.

    Campsite

I was probably the only person tent camping in the entire resort. The manager was able to give me a great campsite away from all of the RVs and cabins. It was right at the entrance however you did have to hike up a short 50ft hill to get to the site. It had a great new fire ring and the campsite was very clean/cleared. Running showers and flushable bathroom was very close. I dinged a star from this review because I have seen campgrounds with cleaner bathrooms

    Clean and peaceful

This was our first time staying since it was no longer a KOA. The comcrete patio sites once nicely maintained with gravel, woodchips and flowers were now just some flowers and weeds. The nice fire ring is still there but mo more chairs. This is the only "complaint" I have, if it really is one. Just needs some TLC on the 4 sites like this that they offer. The rest of the park is clean and peaceful. They offer a mix of site types in both full sun and shaded areas. They also have many nice cabins on site. We have plans to return with friends due to the proximity to home and easy access to local things to do.

    Hopeville Pond State Park Campground

Minimalist Park With Fishing, Swimming, and More!

This campground has a minimalist approach that most campers will love. It is just off the highway, and most sites don’t use electricity or water. They are great for all types of camping equipment (tents, campers, etc.), and they are spacious enough to fit two vehicles per lot. There are sites that have the amenities that people may want... canoe access, a beach, and certain sites do have water/power hookups. The bathrooms are minimalistic and don’t use water or chemicals to be processed, but they do have running sinks and showers! The beach is within walking distance of almost all sites, and there is a larger beach that is accessible at the beginning of the park. There are even cabins to stay in, and they are beautiful! The staff and rangers are amazing and will address any concerns you may have.

Copake Falls Area — Taconic State Park

    Great Place for First Timers

I went here with two of my coworkers for a relaxing weekend getaway. I'm use to the rough and tough it of backpacking the AT Trail so this place had quite a few amenities I am not use to! Haha. We stayed at a platform tent site and were able to park two vehicles on site but the grounds had plenty of parking not too far from the sites. Each of the sites had a large platform (enough room for one very large tent or 2-3 smaller tents), a fire pit, and picnic table. You are very close to your neighbor in this area but when we were there everyone was very respectful. There was potable water a short walking distance away as well as flushing toilets. There was a very large open grassy field for play/sports, a playground and life guarded portion of the lake for swimming. This location was very accesible to the Bish Bash Falls trail and even had a few side trails to explore. This place is very good for easing on first timers and there were quite a few children so those who are parents should consider this a great place to get kids involved in the outdoors as well. There were other accommodations such as RV hook ups, events, and rentals but we weren't there long enough to take adavatage of those. Overall a great experience and relatively cheap for what you get. I believe it was around $30 for two nights which was the minimum.

    Lone Oak Camp Sites

    Wonderful place for family time

I happened upon Lone Oaks Camp Site when looking for someplace to stay in north eastern Connecticut. Leery of just reserving at a larger campground, we were pleasantly surprised especially since there was a 50% special so we got 2 nights for the price of one. We arrived with 2 children under the age of 5 and pulled in. The facility was very clean and neat. Upon getting our site (#14) we were shocked at the size of it. We could have fit 3 campers in it and were a good distance from the neighboring sites (there are some places that you are packed in like sardines, not this one). There were 2 good size pools, one for older individuals and one for children. There was also a whirlpool. Although there was no lifeguard, there was a pool attendant that kept the area clean and neat. The playground was clean and had many different pieces of play equipment. The camp store was fully equipped and had a variety of foods including soft serve ice cream. My 5 year old grandson loves to fish and was thrilled when he pulled in a 5 inch fish from their fishing pond. There were many organized activities for both young and old and the staff were very friendly. They have rentals at a reasonable cost along with cart rentals. There were hiking trails and it was close to Action Wildlife in Goshen. For Adults it had adult beverages sold in their lounge on the weekends and felt much more secure to see they had overnight security.. I was really impressed. Many times this late in the season campgrounds are a bit ragged. Not this one. My hats off to the owners and staff for keeping it clean, neat and welcoming.

    Hopeville Pond State Park Campground

Moderate sized river campground with large beach

Hopeville Pond is a moderate sized state park campground located along a river and offering fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. Some of the site have 50A/20A electric hookups and there’s a dump station available. There’s a small boat ramp without trailer parking Neither pets nor alcohol are permitted. It opens for the season earlier than many of the others, in early April.

Loop F is not along the water, but there the large beach has a parking area, also used by day visitors. The sites in this loop offer more privacy; there’s also a cabin at the beginning of this loop. There’s also a section called Canoe Sites, 4 of which are available for booking. As their name would indicate, they’re right on the waterfront and are tent only sites, but parking is available and they’re reservable. Latrines are available in this section. Sites in loops A-E tend to back up to one another and are wooded, but not a lot of low brush providing privacy. A few of the E loop sites are right on the water; some of the C loop sites are across from a grassy beachy area.
