Best RV Parks & Resorts near Chimney Rock, CO

Multiple RV parks serve the Chimney Rock area with varying hookup options and amenities. Pagosa Springs RV Park & Cabins operates from May through October with full hookups and big rig access on its concrete pads. Blue Spruce RV Park & Cabins provides 50-amp electrical, sewer, and water connections in a wooded setting. "The sites are tight, close together. The owner went out of his way to get us in for the summer," noted one seasonal visitor about nearby Vallecito Resort. Sky Ute Casino Resort offers spacious pull-through RV pads with full hookups between April and November, featuring level asphalt sites with concrete pads for picnic tables.

Several parks remain open year-round, though most operate seasonally from spring through fall. During peak summer months and fall foliage season, advance reservations are strongly recommended as limited availability affects all area campgrounds. Cell service varies considerably throughout the region, with some parks offering WiFi to compensate for weak signals. Many RVers note highway noise can be substantial at parks located along Highway 160. Most campgrounds welcome pets but have specific guidelines about leashing and designated areas. Dump stations are available at nearly all parks, though several reviews mention maintenance issues during busier periods. Navigation into mountain parks sometimes requires careful maneuvering due to steep grades and tight turns.

    Pagosa Riverside Campground

    River, Lakeside and Wooded Sites

This is a well maintained campgrounds with great friendly staff. The San Juan River and small lake are on property. We are in spot #40 a large pull through with electric and water only. Dump station available on property too, most spots are full service. Dog friendly and great paths around lake in which to walk your dog. Wifi throughout park and I have two bars of cell service with Verizon.

    Oasis RV Resort and Cottages

Nice site layout; Enjoyable stay! - THIS IS NOT KOA! NOW CALLED OASIS RV

CUSTOMER SERVICE: Friendly staff; shuffled our stay around so we could extend and not relocate during the week.

WIFI/ CELL SERVICE: Camp wifi and speed seemed to work really well! I could use email and stream videos with no delay; however we used a hot spot for work calls to be more clear, but their wifi probably could have been fine to do so. 2 of 4 bars AT&T but calls came in fine throughout the entire park.

SITE: Pretty campground layout. Love the"S" curved pull thru sites. We had an"S" shaped site with nice privacy and ease of arriving and leaving because of design. The sites all seemed to be nicely spaced from one another and private even though you are nearby. There were some views and there were a few pretty fall trees and a vacant pasture to look at while sitting at the picnic table. A small creek flows along the edge of site 23. Full hookup; level site; heated water so didn't have to worry about pipes freezing during stay; fire pit; grill; full sun site; rock roads but well maintained and not too dusty; light road noise. I'm sure the sites closer to the highway are louder near the campground entrance; no bugs in October that we experienced.

OTHER: Nearby Walmart and shopping center. About 20 min drive from Historic Downtown; about 5 minutes from Anytime Fitness gym. Laundry room was small and they didn't clean our clothes very well, but it was kept clean.

    Pagosa Riverside Campground

    Family campground

We lucked on a pull through spot without reservations, very friendly office crew drove us to the spot. Full hookups & Wi-Fi. Right on the river with benches spread out to enjoy the scenery. Small little pond people were fishing not many catching. The sites are pretty close together but do come with picnic table and fire ring. Very close to town fun little place

    Lost Trail

Lovely site near the Rio Grande

Most sites are Park and walk into fire pit and table area. A few scattered back-in sites. No pull through. Nice wooden picnic tables, men and women’s bathrooms. Level tent sites, water pump on site but nothing available in October. No cell service. Loads of down wood for collection. Close to river access

    La Plata County Fairgrounds

    Bare minimums but good location

This is a small area at the fairgrounds that has space for 6 RVs. All of the sites are back in with 30 amp power and a shared water connection. There are no sewer connections but there are several dump stations in town. There are no showers or restrooms. The sites are gravel and pretty level. Our Verizon and AT&T hotspots both worked well and cell service was good. There is what looks like a maintenance area behind the campground so there was traffic back and forth most of the day that kicked up some dust. It was also a bit noisy. The Durango to Silverton train runs right next to the fairgrounds and that can be a bit noisy too. The Animas River trail is within walking distance. There is also a town trolley service that will take you into the main part of town. The weekends can have events going on which could make it a bit tight to get in and out with your RV. Overall, this was an ok place for a few days but it is certainly nothing fancy. It was very affordable though.

    Little Molas Lake Campground

    Poplar picturesque site

6/28/22 - 7/12/22: This was a nice retreat for us. It is a very popular place on the weekend, but during the week it is much quieter. Most of the weekend traffic is heading to the trailhead for hiking or biking. There are 8 sites here, several large enough for my 34’ fifth-wheel trailer, one is a pull-through with two sites. Vault toilet, no water or dump station. There was 1-bar 5G Verizon, and 2-bars AT&T 4G that were both spotty; cloud cover between the lake and Silverton caused occational intermittent connectivity. Elevation is about 10,300 and posed a problem for our generator that caused severe spark-plug fouling. But, re-jetting the carburetor from a #61 to #58 solved the problem.

    Alpen Rose RV Park

Nice park, but not fond of the "big rig sites" A-B

Very nice campground overall and staff is very nice as well. Its only aboht 15 minutes from the Durango train, which was awesome, and has nice ammenities, though the cafe and pool are closed now (oct). Its a pretty expensive park...big rigs are regularly 79.00 and they did discount it 8.00 per night for off season, but all the big rig sites line up along the entrance/exit and people are arriving as late as 8pm which is really obnoxious when your eating dinner listening to rig after rig and car after car. Also, not all big rig sites are created equal. All are buddy sites, so you can face a friend, and all but ours (A-B) have a nice grass area...we have gravel and are closer to "our buddy" who we dont happen to know...the picnic tables are basically next to each other. We would come back, but would take a back in next time so we arent so close to the entrance.

The Last Resort RV Park & Campground

    Very peaceful, beautiful location

The Last Resort RV park  is hidden into a very peaceful valley. They are open year round and have River side spots for those under 26 feet long and some very large pull through spots with lots of space. No Verizon cell service and very poor Wifi.  If you truly enjoy your peace and quiet  this is the spot for you. Staff is very friendly.

    Ruins Road RV Park

    Quiet

We are traveling with a young, very timid dog so asked for a large space. She gave us an end space with no shade and no grass; however, we have a nice view of the trees along the Animas River and are a short distance from the river. Lots of long term RVs, but their spaces are well maintained. Good gravel throughout the RV Park, nice level spaces. They take cash or check only. No tables, fire rings, restrooms/showers, but full hookups. Easy access, and we had no issues with road noise.
