Bureau of Land Management maintains Hermits Rest Boat-in Campsite within the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests. The campsite requires a 3-mile hike descending 1,800 feet into the canyon, which keeps visitor numbers low. Eight tent sites include picnic tables and fire rings, with a vault toilet on-site.
The reservoir provides trout fishing opportunities, and the steep access trail means day hikers occasionally pass through but overnight camping remains light. Pets are permitted at the campground.
