Deer hammer Site #3

Site #3 was a good spot right on the water. Water was stagnant and not worth getting in. Would be good for fishing. Spot was hot during the day but cool at night. Lots of mosquitos.

Longs Peak Campground Site #6

Great spot, plenty of shade, incredible mountain view to the east! Quite campground. First come, first serve sites. Manicured and well maintained.

North Bank Taylor River

First come, first serve site. Great location right on the river. Picnic table and fire pit at site. Easy pulloff for parking vehicles. $18 a night. Great vegetation, and a hiking trail at end of campground area. The river access was wonderful and the shade was great for the July heat. A very enjoyable location!

First to Review
Dry Creek

The site I chose fit my needs. It was a place to spend the night close to Montrose. Hot during the day. Not a lot of shade. Very dusty. Could potentially be a problem when wet. Deep ruts showed that vehicles do travel the trails when muddy. A lot of broken glass at site. Morning and evening the site worked well to shade from the sun but quickly heated up as the sun rose. There were several site options and they were well spread out but the area seems to be an OHV trail system more than anything.

Heavily Wooded Site

Heavily wooded site about 30-40 yards off Last Dollar Road. Unable to see the road and traffic from back site. This road has two camping locations. Very private. Quiet and not a lot of traffic. The reasons for not five stars are the ground is sloped and the fire pits are not very established. The area can accommodate several off road or 4x4 vehicles.

Engineer Pass River Front

A great place to end the day! Started in Ouray and traveled Engineer Pass from west to east. Stopped at the first spot available just to the west of Lake City. The site was large and had plenty of space to accommodate several vehicles and tents. The creek was clear, fast flowing, and provided a refreshing breeze after a day of trails. A great view of mountains to the south and plenty of shade from trees on the north bank. Road was a bit dusty as vehicles traveled by, but nothing unexpected. After traffic for the day stopped, the only sounds were those of the natural world around us. A peaceful spot to close out the day.

Great stop For Black Canyon

Drove to the end of Jones Draw. Large fire pit already established. The site I chose was large enough to handle two jeeps and two large tents. I felt there was adequate separation between sites. The trail had few spots with deep ruts, but very manageable when dry. The location of this dispersed camping area was about a mile from the entrance to Black Canyon, which made it ideal for getting into the park first thing in the morning. Only stayed for one night, but was not displeased. Met my expectations.

Comfortable and Quite

First come, first serve sites. The site was manicured and level. A great place to stop for the night or for longer stays. $24 cash or check only was a surprise. Its proximity to Pitkin was ideal. We would stay here again. Well worth stopping in.

Quick Stop

Quick and easy to find. Area was easily accessible. A great option for those on a budget and attempting to avoid paying fees for one night stays. Nice views of the valley and mountain behind. Sites were not the most level going up the mountainside and a bit rocky. Would stay there again!
