Best RV Parks & Resorts near Pinecrest, CA

Snowflower sits just off I-80, it’s owned by Thousand Trails. With the popularity of RV camping, this campground can get busy in the summer months. It is closed in the winter due to snow. There is a small lake that is good for kayaking and paddle boarding. There are sites with partial hookups (electric and water). Lake Tahoe is just 30 minutes west.

Inter city RV Park at Cal Expo. Great Bike paths adjacent along the river into Downtown or up to Folsom. All Full hook up sites on gravel or asphalt, daily, weekly, monthly rates. Stayed a couple of times for sons events at college there.

This is a Thousand trails camp ground. Its has a small (very small) lake. Good fishing for fun. The camp ground is broken up in 4 sections. the first has full hookups but is very small and tight (like will my slide hit you tights) the other one on the other side of the lake is bigger but has no sewer but a dump station. the other two have nothing for tents pretty much. Bathrooms seam clean every time I have been here and the staff is always nice.

I am a member of Thousand Trails and that being said this is one of my favorite TT spots in California. Family friendly, great little Lake for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding. RV sites have partial hook ups.  Thousand Trails does not reserve campsites so it can be quite a scene to find a site especially in the summer. Only one dump station was open (there are 3) so waited 30 + minutes to dump, hopefully management is working on that… they do offer a honey wagon service for $40.00 available 2 times a week.

General: This is a HUGE RV park (a Sun Resort) with back-in, pull-through sites, and cabins. We called a day ahead to see if there was room and on a weekday in early May, there was plenty of availability. We even received a Spring Flash Sale (40% off) rate which, although more than we usually spend to camp, was reasonable. As is typical of RV parks, there is a small patch of lawn between sites but virtually no privacy. There are trees throughout the park and although it is located right on the road, only the sites that back up to the road hear road noise. There is a small pond in the center and we saw some ducks. All camping sites have full hook-ups and a picnic table but no fire ring or grill. There is a large laundry room and a café. We were assigned a site at check-in. 

Site Quality: Pads are paved and level. The back-in sites in the center back up to each other with no divider between them. I saw several large RVs look almost like they were touching! 

Bathhouse: Two bathhouses each with three stalls, two sinks, and two showers. Although there is a curtain separating the showers from the rest of the bathroom, the bench is outside of the shower stalls, which could be awkward. However, in the time we were there, I never saw a single person in the bathroom(assuming most people use their own bathrooms in their RVs). The shower had good water pressure and hot water.

Activities: There is a pool, playground, rec center. Shuffleboard, horseshoes, and beach volleyball. It is a half-mile around the perimeter, so I was able to enjoy a short run.

This is not our usual type of camping experience, but since we met friends at a nearby winery, this worked for us since we did not want to drive far.

Thousand Trails membership is worthless. Every time I try to book something it tells me to call the 1800 number but they never answer. The facilities are pretty tore up. The facilies are clean but they neglect the maintenance. On several occasions I booked a site and the day before it gets cancelled without reason. They don’t answer emails or phone calls.

Impressed with clean sites and tall pine trees. A very clean RV park and friendly staff. Call for reservations as its popular. Some lower sites had concrete pads for the provided table. Several seasonal private modular homes among the RVer. Secured large dog area with running creek within walking distance. A number of lower RV spaces within walking pathways to creek. Most were 30 amps and upper level had some 50 amps. Lots of back ends and pull throughs. Visitors must walk to the trash designated area fenced in with recycling bins. Only one bathroom building that housed laundry room. Shower stall in women’s area .50cent for 20 minutes and 2 toilet stalls that the door hits your knees a very weird old bathroom. We enjoyed the park and plan to return again.

Most of this park is long term. Invest by geese who love to leave their droppings everywhere. We had a last minute change in plans and chose this. Not sure we will be back. WiFi is very weak if you get it.

The campground was nice and the people were fantastic. Our site was a little small and a lot of people live there, but full hook-ups.

Lots of trees for shade and a nice swimming pool to cool yourself. The sites are a nice size. This is an older park in a location close to shopping. However, the train is near by and can be heard in the park. It comes by about twice in a 24 hr period. Office staff very nice and helpful. There are laundry facilities (pay). And many long term “campers”. All in all,it’s a sweet set up, with easy access.

We checked in and had reservations but it’s a first come first serve sites! They have different sections that cost more… the closer you are to the river, the more it will cost. It ranges from $5 to $20 bucks more a night.They say NO saving sites but people do and if your new to the campground it’s hard to know what is what!! Once I figured out the sites I had people move their cars so we could back in…. Lucky us we get next to a resident that lives there and is so rude! She wasn’t home at the time so we had no idea if that camper was parking their vehicle in parking area since nothing was in front of her trailer! We had our golf cart over a bit in her site and boy we heard about it in the morning!! She scolded us like we were kids!! She went and told others in the campground that lived their as well! She told us that they others said to lay on the horn at 10 pm until we came out! 🙄 thank goodness we were able to move over a site so we had one between us because the sites are so, so small you can’t even extend your awning all the way…. While we were moving over she comes out to say we’ll like it there pssh and we have the best behaved dogs. I wanted to say take some lessons from them 😂🤣Mean people can ruin your trip so easily!!! The River is nice with man made trails to easily walk down to a beach area. They don’t have sewer so you can dump it yourself at a dump area on the campground or have a service come to you and do it for $25 They have a store on the grounds and a pool. This is a Thousand Trails so if you are a member it is probably less out of your pocket. Besides the mean old grumpy lady and the small sites, it was a good trip….I don’t think we will return though. I feel there is many more campgrounds to explore and I’ll do a better research on the area before booking……

This was a great stop over as we were passing through. A quiet and small RV park with first come, first serve spaces when you arrive. It is gated. Water and Electricity with a dump station. Spacious enough for us. Easy to get in and out and pretty level. No wifi but AT&T worked fine.

Great lake for swimming and water play. Too warm for trout and too small for kayaks/SUPs. But it does make a beautiful backdrop. 
The park is rather spread out, so a bicycle/ebike is a plus. And if you mountain bike, there's some decent trails close by to ride. There's also legit fishing lakes within about a 20 minute radius. 
RV sites are mostly electric and water only, and many aren't anywhere near level. Nonetheless, I loved the place and will definitely go back. If you prefer parking lot RV parks though, go somewhere else.

...then you want a good location for your home base. Cal Expo definitely has the centralized location for exploring Old Sac, Cal Expo, State Capitol, the rivers and beyond. Cal Expo RV Park is a parking lot where your rig is nose-down, not necessarily level, and your septic goes uphill to drain. It is quite noisy at night with traffic, sirens and other noise.

Had a standard Hookup-RV-Spot. Was very uneven, couldn't get the RV level. If you don't have the premium hookup spots, you got to pay 20$ "Service Fee" for dumping. Idk why because you end up doing it all by yourself as usual anyway. Feels like a bit of a rip off to be honest. The rest is nice, quiet (except for the geese) and clean.

This is a great campsite, with lots of amenities. Super family friendly. Lots of kids at this site.

I came here in early August, 2020! It gets warm during the day and many spots have trees, which provide partial shade at some point in the day. I do recommend bringing a pop up structure for the moments when shade is not available.

We stayed at campsite 24, which is right on the river and next to the main river pool access. Lots of people coming by but everyone is respectful and there is some privacy from small trees planted along the path.

At the other end of the site is a river access that’s smaller and allows dogs (the main one does not). Since I do not have kids but do have a dog, I will probably try for the sites closer to the dog access next time.

The main river pool gets busy, lots of kids, families etc. but in the early evening and morning it is pretty empty and was a great time to relax. The dog access river pool was a lot less crowded. You can also float from the dog access pool down river to the main pool site which was a lot of fun.

The property has great bathrooms with showers. They take quarters for the showers, $.25 for 2 minutes. They have a small store onsite for the last minute essentials. They have a air pump to fill up rafts to float in the river. They also have wood delivery to your site if you order by 7pm. Each site has a picnic table and small fire pit with a grate if you want to cook on that! They also have a larger communal areas with BBQ and sink for those wanted to have a group meal. Each campsite has water, electricity and full RV hookups. So lots of RV’s at this location.

Very dog friendly and kid friendly.

Staff was super helpful and always present. They made rounds emptying trash cans, cleaning the bathrooms and just monitoring the area so that’s is super well maintained. You can tell they really love the place and want to keep it clean. They also were super nice when enforcing the rules, not mean but were not afraid to remind people to follow the camp rules (which were super reasonable).

No cell service, which was great. But you can drive up the hill 10 minutes to park at the vista and get a signal.

All in all we had a great time and will be back!

We could not find this place. Needs better description. Afterwards in another rv park I worked it out. Need to go to their website first better directions than just el dorado. Dyrt dropped the ball on this one.

We loved our brief stay at Giant Gap, we were surprised to get availability! We were treated to a site close to the reservoir. No hookups, but spectacular beauty

Be warned though, Google maps will suggest driving up Iowa Hill. DO NOT. Follow the directions of the campground, that road is not for the faint of heart. And NOT for RVs or trailers.

It's a beautiful spot!
