Greenhorn Capground at Rollins Lake

Campsites at Greenhorn Campground sit directly on Rollins Lake, with boat access allowing visitors to anchor watercraft right in front of their spots. The campground operates year-round and provides water hookups, restrooms, and shower facilities for both RV and tent campers.

Sites C3 through C10 offer the most shade, backed by a small waterfall and creek that provides constant water sounds. The campground sits in a bay off the main lake body, with many sites positioned on open dirt areas rather than traditional grass or forest floor. "Lake front sites, but stacked on top of each other," notes Jon K., highlighting the close spacing between spots.

Rollins Lake supports boating, swimming, and fishing activities, with a small on-site shop available for boat rentals and food purchases. The lake reaches full capacity in early summer, which reviewers indicate as the optimal camping season. Families make up a significant portion of visitors, drawn by the direct water access and swimming opportunities. The campground includes a convenience store within walking distance for supplies and snacks.

Peninsula Family Camping and other lake-area campgrounds provide additional options for visitors exploring this region of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Rates range from $42 to $53 per night, with reservations available for advance planning.

Camp directly on the lake

Great place to camp!!! They have a convenience store that is walkable distance to get supplies, food, candy from.

You should reserve a spot right on the lake. If you have a boat you can anchor it right in front.

Nice places to swim, fish, and jump off docs

Plenty of shade

This is a smaller but nice lake. It hasn’t ever been over crowded when I’ve gone. The reason I like this spot is because campsites C3-C10 have the most shade you can hope for! There is a little waterfall and creek running behind the campsites so you get the trickling water sound.

First Come, First Serve

Lake front sites, but stacked on top of each other. Plenty of goose crap to dodge and make sure to show up early! Not our favorite, but still doable.

family lake day trip or camping

Campground off the 80 heading toward Lake Tahoe from Sacramento. Can't hear the cars on the highway but close enough to stores if you forget something, although there is also a small shop to rent boats or buy sandwiches. Perfect for families (hence, there's a lot of families) for day trips or camping. Beautiful lake but no places to hike. If you want to splash in lake water, that's fine, but this campground is more fun if you have a boat because there are beaches to boat to that you cna take over and enjoy.

GreenHorn camp ground

Great boating lake. The camp ground is located in a bay off the lake. Lots of open dirt where you camp. Best camping is in the early summer when the lake is full. activities include boating, swimming and fishing.

never camping here again.

The camp sites and waters edge are littered with trash. Very expensive to camp and the staff were not friendly. Won't ever go to camp again .
