Campsite reservations are made only during the on-season. In the off-season campsite availability is first-come, first-served.
This secluded campground is located near the end of the peninsula between the north and south forks of the American River. You can reach the area by boat or you can drive in ten miles from the little town of Pilot Hill on Highway 49. The campground has 85 family campsites that will accommodate trailers up to 18 feet in length and motor homes up to 24 feet. Hookups are not provided at the individual campsites, but there is a sanitation dump station. Flush toilets and piped drinking water are available. There are two launch ramps and a day-use area near the park. Please be aware that both the boat launch ramps become unusable when the lake drops below 431 feet in elevation. This typically happens in late June to early July, but can vary annually. To check the current lake elevation you may visit the Department of Water Resources website. You can also camp ashore with your boat at Peninsula campground in a designated campsite. A secure tie-up is essential as the wind often rises during the night.

This campground has it all. It’s clean, has great amenities (pool, showers, kitchen, bathrooms), and it’s a nice walk away from town. It has a spot for everyone - RVs, glamping tents, and the standard tent sites (my style).

TravelerWe spent two nights doing a family and friends reunion. We loved our rv spot, the rest of the group had great tent site and glamping tents. Facilities were super clean and nice. Pool was small but the pool area was really nice. Great location for swimming in the Yuba river!
ScoutThe Inn Town Campground is unlike any other campground I’ve ever been to. We have stayed in one of the glampinig tents, and have also brought our RV. The common house has a fully stocked kitchen so you can camp without having to bring supplies! The campground is exceptionally clean and meticulously maintained. We even had a heated mattress pad in our glamping tent to keep warm 😁 The owners, Dan and Erin Thiem, really have thought of everything. Staying with them is a must!

This place is north east of Sacramento. Coloma resort is what some friends call "Glamping", but it's so much more than that. You can tent camp (it's covered sites for camping too), rent a cabin or RV camp. Great sites along the river too. One negative, is you have to book way ahead of time, but it's well worth it. You can pan for gold, relax, or bike, hike along the river, and kids can play along several playgrounds for kids of different ages. A large grass area great for games, and if you are up for it, rafting, kayaking and fishing in the cold American river. You can also learn some history about the discovery of gold and check out Sutter Mill!

We just got back from a short 2 night trip to William Kent. It was a lovely little spot. The sites are definitely close together and the pads are tight. We have a 25 ft travel trailer and with my husbands truck it was definitely a tight squeeze. Plus our pad was really not very flat so leveling the trailer was tough. But beyond that, we had a great site. Someone else made the reservations but I think we really lucked out. Yes, we were on the back end, so as far from the lake as you could be, and yes there are cabins that butt up to some of the sites. But we rode our bikes and/or walked to the lake still, and we barely even saw any people in the cabins. Now there were other sites that were much closer to houses than that and I'm not sure I could've handled those but our site was great. The site itself was huge and really nice for my large family. There is a breakfast place right next to the campground so if you want more glamping you can swing over there in the morning. We also didnt care for the William Kent beach area cause there are no dogs allowed, so instead we drove down a few miles to a dog beach that was really nice. I dont know the name but it's to the right out of the campground, a few miles down and you will run into it. All in all, if you want dispersed camping, this isnt the place for you. But if you want a nice place to set up shop and be super close to tahoe and other amenities, this is a great spot. We had site 30.

This park is located very close to Sutter’s Mill where good was discovered. It also has a white water rafting business on site.
The terrain is steep with mostly smaller sites. Water pressure is excellent. Our site had 30 amp only and I doubt any of them have 50 amp. The power is not good. I had to bypass the surge suppressor because it kept cutting out due to low voltage. Voltage was generally 104-105.
There are very nice tent and yurt sites along the river.
They have a nice shower and there’s decent AT&T service.
I would be very cautious about coming here with a larger RV. Ours is 30’ bumper to bumper. I think 32 would be ok.
Be aware that Garmin nav might take you the wrong way. Apple Maps had it correct though.

This is such a beautiful piece of California. It is clean and well maintained my daughter who is 5 loved writing her hoverboard around the entire park there are lots of kids to play with and the caretaker and his family were super welcoming and professional. It is really relaxing and refreshing

Campground “resort” caters to the cabin and RV crowd. Very pleasant, with a cool old bridge to cross the river. If it’s hot outside, you need to be in the river!

I am a member of Thousand Trails and that being said this is one of my favorite TT spots in California. Family friendly, great little Lake for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding. RV sites have partial hook ups.  Thousand Trails does not reserve campsites so it can be quite a scene to find a site especially in the summer. Only one dump station was open (there are 3) so waited 30 + minutes to dump, hopefully management is working on that… they do offer a honey wagon service for $40.00 available 2 times a week.

It sounds like there are multiple Big Meadow camp grounds in California. This review is for Big Meadow Campground, Sequoia NF - FS, CA. The photos are of site 009B. My visit was wonderful. The camp sites are large. We set up two 8 person tents and one 2 person tent and there was plenty of room for more. The firepits are very well made. They block the wind while allowing good airflow. There is a very large picnick table at each site, a bear box, and plenty of shade. There is a vault toilet that is cleaned daily. The sites boarder a stream. The water level is about 3 inches in July with temperatures in the 80's. This is a dog friendly site. There is no potable water at this site.

We stayed here for two nights last year during a Northern California Camping trip. This site is on the western side of Lake Tahoe about 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe. It’s a beautiful lake side campground with a very nice sandy beach for those willing to brave the cool waters. The sites are on top of each other. So you will need to pick your site carefully. This is also a popular campground and you will need to plan ahead or get lucky claiming a walk up site. The camp staff were very helpful and the facilities were great. This is a safe choice for a Tahoe visit, especially those traveling with kids.

Four years running and eight trips under our belt, we love camping here. Only once was it not enjoyable, and that was last year when all of the "new" campers came out of the woodwork during quarantine and couldn't understand campground rules to save their lives.
That said, our group adores Bear River. It offers rather level (if not flat) tent camping, and a few RV spots as well. Each spot has a fire ring, grill and picnic table. Their reservation site will let you know when they abide fire season safety and don't allow fires of any kind, so you have time to prepare. The on-site bathrooms are cleaned daily and roomy. You'll need light even before the sun sets though, it gets dark quickly in there.
Depending on which site you choose, accessing the river can take some work, but a quick trip to the day use area provides very easy access. Our favorite spot has some easy climbing access, and we bring our chairs down and relax riverside all day long.
There will almost always be several gold panning folks, and they almost always keep to themselves and don't disturb campers.
The air is deliciously clean, the river provides a calming soundtrack at night, and the rangers are friendly and helpful.
Animal-wise, we have seen everything from chickens to deer to a bear once, but it was absolutely terrified to see humans and fled immediately. Always know your surroundings and read up on your site - there will always be useful safety tips!

ScoutGreeted with trash and cigarette butts littering the park. Spent 15 minutes picking up trash so campsite was decent. Homeless drug addicts resided in the next site over. Random people came at all times to park car while tenants ran out to car. Then car left quickly. That’s a drug deal.
Bags and trash littered their site. They rarely came out of their tents.
Our last night homeless people came through our camp to rummage through the trash. They only left when we called the cops.
Random car yelled f*&$ you at my little boys. Horrible.
I only gave it one star for the physical beauty.
GuideThis campground got a lot of negative reviews in the past for having a large year round transient population, but Placer County’s new online reservation system seems to have resolved that. The campsites are all along the beautiful Bear River. There are a couple of vault toilets. No potable water. Nice picnic tables and fire pits at each campsite. There is a significant amount of low bushes and brush between the campsites and the river. There’s quite a bit of poison oak so be aware. MOST of the campers there are folks like us just looking to relax. Unfortunately there are some patrons here that are obnoxious, trashy people. The people at the campsite next to ours didn’t feel like going to the vault toilets to use the bathroom. They instead used the beach next to the river to go #1 AND #2. Super fun to wake up to that in the morning complete with the toilet paper they used. 🤢

GuideMy friends and I did a group trip to Inntown in September. We loved it so much we booked another weekend to go back before we left. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. The campsites are well maintained, there is water nearby all sites and they drive thru the campground once a day to pick up trash in case you don't want to haul it to the dumpster. They have dish washing stations and the absolute nicest, cleanest bathrooms/showers I've ever seen in a campground. They do not allow wood burning fires, but you can use a gas fire ring or rent one from the campground. It's just outside Nevada City but you feel completely in nature thanks to all the big redwoods in camp. We spent the days at Fuller Dam, and the Yuba River and Scotts Flat Reservoir are nearby too. Overall, this is a fantastic campground and I highly recommend.

GuideThis is a really pretty, beautifully maintained campground with a lot of topography. The buildings are beautiful and there are a lot of amenities, including a very nice kitchen and hang-out space (though it was closed during my visit). There are showers, good drinking water, dish-washing sinks, and a coin laundry (you can get quarters at the office when it's open). There's also a pool, outdoor movie area, and a lot of historic gold-rush elements. Resort-y.

Just know that here on The Dyrt, the location on the map for some reason shows it as being many miles away from Kidder Ct: it’s marked as if it is at Higgins Corner, halfway to Auburn? Whereas it is in reality only a mile away from downtown Nevada City, off the Gold Flat exit. So I marked an edit to have this corrected on 4/8/2023; the moderators are to check that, and correct the map after veryifying.
ScoutAlthough by myself if not had a spot here yet. I have visited many that have and is all had raving reviews. I for one and looking for a little piece and quiet. Although I do come with my RV which requires me to run the generator every once in awhile to go ahead and put power in the battery so that I can be silent at night, which is what we all like to hear the crickets cricket away. But all in all I think it's time for me to take my place and get a space there and I will be doing another reviews after that, which I'm more than positive is going to be a very positive and raving review.
