Best RV Parks & Resorts near Carson City, NV

Carson City RV parks offer year-round accommodations across varied settings between Reno and Lake Tahoe. Gold Dust West RV Park features full hookup sites with 50-amp service near downtown, while Carson RV Resort provides sewer, water, and electrical connections with laundry facilities. Silver City RV Resort in nearby Minden includes spacious sites with picnic tables and access to a fishing pond. One camper shared that "some sites are narrow - with the slide out and stairs down we were hanging over the edge of the pull through site." Virginia City RV Park, located in the historic mining town north of Carson City, accommodates big rigs and offers both 30-amp and 50-amp service for larger motorhomes.

Most RV parks in the region require reservations during summer months when temperatures are moderate and Lake Tahoe attracts visitors. Dump stations are available at all the major RV parks, though some travelers report waiting during busy checkout periods. Pet policies vary between properties - Gold Dust West and Carson RV Resort welcome pets with designated walking areas. Propane filling service is limited, requiring travelers to seek out standalone propane stations in Carson City. Winter RV camping remains available throughout the area, with most parks maintaining plowed roads and operational hookups despite occasional snowfall. Cell service is generally reliable around Carson City proper but can become spotty in the mountainous areas between the city and Lake Tahoe.

    Silver City RV Resort

    Convenient location with great amenities

Great location if you want to be near Costco and the capital city.  Great views of the Sierras and the Carson valley.  Sites are narrow, about twice the width of your RV, and separated by chain link fencing.  But all sites are perfectly flat, paved pull-throughs; easy in, easy out parking.  Also electric, water, sewer hookup, cable and strong wifi and cell service.  Sites are gravel, but the campground has nice grassy dog parks, clean bathrooms and laundry, and well-stocked store with propane refill.  Pool and fishing pond were closed but looked great.  We were there in early April 2021; with our binoculars we could see skiers at the top of Heavenly Mountain ski area!

    Sparks Marina RV Park

Great Urban RV Park, best in Reno Area

The Reno area is our home base, we are full time RVers in a 35 foot long fifth wheel.  We come to Sparks Marina RV Park whenever we are in town visiting family, and we typically stay for at least a month or sometimes two months.  We have visited ALL of the RV parks in the vicinity, and in Carson City to the south.  By far this is the best place in the area.  The sites are not at all outdoorsy, it is more of an urban feel, with a concrete pad and fake grass, but each site has a tree which is nice for shade in the hot summers.  The circulation works well and if you have a pull through you have two parking options for your tower/toad vehicle.  The spaces are long enough for the larger rigs, and are wide enough for all of the slides, even on both sides, and for awnings to go out.  Staff here is EXCELLENT.  We are always treated well, and we like how they are always there to help.  The office has some supplies for sale, and the laundry room and bathrooms are the CLEANEST we have ever seen.  Facilities are modern.  Rec room has ping pong, and pool, a large screen tv as well.  There is a small pool and hot tub, which gets a lot of use when open.  They do not allow tents.  They have a pretty robust WiFi system, and all cellular options are available in the area, so internet is not a problem.  Prices are higher than other options but the location is excellent, staff is excellent and they do a good job of security as well.  We feel safe here, and it is always clean.

    Topaz Lake RV Park

    Wonderful private RV campground

We spend a month here every year and several weekends, too. It’s clean, the host, Julie, is very friendly and the spaces are great. Plenty of space for our 34’ travel trailer. Full hookups - water, electric and sewer and Cable tv, plus decent wifi. No fires are allowed, but you are right on the lake, with two docks and a beach with shade everywhere and amazing views, so who cares? There is a fish cleaning station, a laundromat, bathrooms with toilets and pay showers. There is also a small store and a freezer full of delicious ice cream treats. Pet friendly as long as your pets are leashed. There are two docks and you can dock your boat for a few. We leave our kayaks on the beach. Everyone is really friendly and Chuck, the maintenance man, could not be nicer or more helpful! He is a treat to chat with! A picnic table at every site, trees at every site and the lake has great fishing and boating. Can you tell we love this place?

    Sparks Marina RV Park

    Nice place to visit

Nice level concrete pads for travel trailers, they also have pull through sites for diesel pushers. Both 30 and 50 amp sites along with cable on the pedestals, make sure you bring your own cable to connect to the pet store or they’ll charge you $4.95 for a cable cord. Large clean bathrooms, with a laundry facility that is open 24 hours a day. Upon checking in, staff will guide you to your site and assist you in backing in to your campsite or guide you through the pull through site. They explain all the rules which are typical and show you the location of your pedestal and your sewer hook ups. Wi-Fi is strong and if there are not a lot of people at the campsite you can stream to a television which is the first time in a long time. Unfortunately when the weekends come in the campsite gets full Wi-Fi signal does degrade quite significantly. The bathrooms are well-maintained and constantly cleaned, staff is very friendly and they have a small camp in store for you to pick up small supplies. If you need anything larger there is RV country which is located basically across the street at legends which is a rather large shopping mall area. There are plenty of places to go out and eat if you would like such as outback steakhouse, Olive Garden, BJ’s and of course there is a plethora of fast food restaurants available in the area as well. The campsites are flat and level and have a picnic table with artificial turf next to your campsite. I’ll just say that the sites are very cozy. Very quiet camp area staff is very friendly and helpful

    Desert Rose RV Park

Nothing Special but a Good Short Termer to Visit the Reno Area.

The RV park was easy to find and enter. Check in was smooth with a very friendly staff, and we were escorted to pull through site 150 with FHUs for our three day stay. The utilities are nicely placed on the middle of the pad. Site 150 is a premium pull through. The only thing that makes this site premium is the concrete pad, small grass front yard, and shade trees; as there is no picnic table, patio, or fire pit. Sites are near each other throughout the park. We really didn’t see where any sites were better spaced than others. We received a Good Sam discount for the nightly rate, which basically paid for the lodging tax. Then there’s a $2 resort fee and $3 per pet fee ($6 for our two pets) with other charges if you bring additional people and vehicles with you. The WiFi was average for a park this size. Cable did not work, but they were trying to get the cable company to come fix it. However, we got a fair amount of OTA channels, with two prime channels. We got 2 bars on Verizon. There’s an interesting mix of full timers, seasonal, and short termers. I state interesting as many of the permanent party live along the South to West perimeter. Most take pride in their sites but as good as the park sites look towards the front it degrades in too many sites looking like, well, a “trailer park”. There’s a very clean and well maintained facility with a Rec Room, showers and nice big laundry. We like the rule where a site can only use two machines at a time. Unless you want to trek out into the desert where the Quads and ATVs go, there are no trails here to walk your dog, but there is a small fenced, off-leash dog area, which was nice. We thought this park would be more of a destination park and for us, it was not. This park had the worse road noise we've experienced after two years on the road. Our sound machine could not drown out the internal park muffler rumbles of locals going to work that started about 4:00 AM, the highway noise all day plus most of the night, and the 5:30ish AM train. We stayed here three nights based on reviews from other websites. Our opinion overall, this place is nothing special. However, it is a good overnighter and could be an option to explore the Reno area.

    Crystal Springs Campground

Camping under giant sequoias! What more could you want?

Beautiful, wild forest camping under huge sequoia trees in a well maintained campground with fairly well separated sites. Flush toilets and garbage disposal but no dump station or electrical or water hookups. Definitely not for big rigs and I have a teardrop trailer and my Outback which are almost 30 ft and it was quite a challenge

    Zephyr Cove Resort

    Family fun for all ages

Excellent spot for the whole family. Beware, if you are pulling a trailer brush up on your backing up skills. Very tight and narrow. Best time to get in the park is during the day. Not much difference between back in sites versus pull through sites. Very clean facilities. Close to everything. Everyone is nice and friendly. #162 is a good level site for RV.

    Bordertown Casino RV Resort

Well maintained, clean CG, friendly helpful staff

We are full-timers and have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. Since we had been boondocking for a while, we stayed for 3 nights in site 41 in mid May as a waypoint and an opportunity to dump, fill, do laundry, etc., as well as visit the casino. The CG is medium size, with a narrow strip of nice grass and a table(no chairs) between the sites, which are quite close- slides out, about 8-10. The CG is quiet, except for some road noise on US 365. The internal roads are a little narrow, although not too bad, but some of the turns are rather tight. All but a couple of sites are pull-throughs. AT&T service was fair with 2-3 bars of 5G and speeds up to about 20 MB/s. The CG WiFi was just ok, depending on your needs, with speeds up to 0.5 MB/s. Starlink had speeds up to 20 MB/s. We had DISH coverage on all of the western satellites. We didn’t try any OTA channels with our fixed omni antenna. As mentioned by others in their reviews, the sewer connections are slightly recessed, centered in concrete bowls; it was a challenge to get a good connection with a right-angle connector.

Guide to Carson City

Carson City sits in the high desert of western Nevada at 4,802 feet elevation between the Sierra Nevada and Virginia Range. The area averages just 10 inches of rainfall annually, creating distinct camping conditions with limited natural shade. RV campgrounds in Carson City maintain services year-round despite winter temperatures frequently dropping below freezing from November through March.

What to do

Lake access activities: Visitors staying at Tahoe Valley Campground use it as a base for Lake Tahoe recreation 20 minutes away. "We came into south lake to visit family. This campground is right in town but there's enough space and trees to give it a natural setting. Bathrooms are great and it's pretty quiet considering it's popular," reports Sarah R.

Historic mining exploration: Virginia City, 15 miles northeast of Carson City, offers preserved 1800s architecture and mining history. "Virginia City, in spite of the history there, is a tourist trap," notes Kim G., though many visitors find the authentic western town atmosphere worth exploring.

Water activities: The RV Village at Camp Richardson Resort provides direct beach access. "Very close walk down to the Lake and the Beacon restaurant where you can have world famous RumRunner. Campground had hot showers," says Janet G., highlighting the combination of water recreation and dining.

What campers like

Mountain views: Campers at Silver City RV Resort appreciate the panoramic scenery. "Wonderful views of the mountains and the Carson Valley from this very nice RV campground. This place has everything. Beautiful setting and great, complete amenities," says Alison, describing the visual appeal of the location.

Convenient casino access: Many RV parks in the region connect to gaming facilities. "All sites are full hookup, with wifi, and cable tv. Clean bathrooms, showers, and laundry. We would stay here again if in the area," says Steve about Gold Ranch Casino RV Resort, noting the amenities that complement the gaming options.

Winter camping options: Unlike many mountain destinations, Carson City RV campgrounds operate year-round. "We ended up camping in a truck camper at Tahoe Valley Campground after being caught in a snow storm. For a last minute find, it turned out to be an awesome choice," reports Basia M., detailing how the park accommodates winter visitors.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: High season bookings fill quickly, especially at Lake Tahoe locations. "We showed up and still managed to find a camp spot that same day which is rare for this gorgeous location," says Janet G. about Camp Richardson, suggesting most visitors should reserve well ahead.

Varying site sizes: RV pad dimensions differ significantly between parks. "Sites are narrow, about twice the width of your RV, and separated by chain link fencing. But all sites are perfectly flat, paved pull-throughs; easy in, easy out parking," notes John W. at Silver City RV Resort.

Age restrictions: Some parks limit older RVs. "There is NO mention of an age restriction on their website. I specifically searched it before I made the reservation. But they WILL take the reservation online, take your money, then call to check the age of your rig," warns Leah T. about one park's policies.

Tips for camping with families

Pool and recreation amenities: Grand Sierra Resort RV Park offers extensive activities. "The spots have almost zero shade and most have no grass. The bathrooms/showers close from midnight to 6 am. But, they have a bowling alley, swimming pool, casino, escape rooms, movie theater, arcade, fitness center, Starbucks, more than 5 restaurants," explains a reviewer.

Organized activities: Some parks coordinate family-friendly events. "Super busy campground with kids running around and riding bikes. They put on a ton of events like karaoke nights, live music, and smores nights," says Dani P. about Tahoe Valley Campground.

Noise considerations: Family campgrounds vary in noise levels. "Had several rowdy groups keeping us up til 2am. A few air horns, car alarms going off. No camp hosts or ground keepers around," reports Cassidy R., suggesting families bring earplugs for busy weekends.

Tips from RVers

Hookup details: Gold Dust West RV Park provides full-service connections. "Very clean, paved parking lot with full hookups and cable. Spaces are a bit tight but easily doable. Laundry and showers very clean," says Gregg K., noting the convenience of complete utility access.

RV size compatibility: Most Carson City RV parks accommodate larger motorhomes. "Easy to access, even for larger rigs. We stayed in 39 foot 5th wheel. Plenty of pull thru spots, full hookups, regularly spaced bathroom/showers," reports Steve R. at Tahoe Valley Campground.

Dump station timing: Plan dump station usage carefully during peak checkout periods. "Clean park with tight spots. Also our sewer hookup was broken," mentions Heidi about one Silver City RV Resort site, highlighting the importance of checking connections upon arrival.
