Great with the right site!

Such a gem here! Less than two hours from Oakland.  We'll return soon.

Highlights:

1. Sites 13 and 15 of the Bodega Dunes loop are by far the best sites.  The others had uneven tent pads or awkward orientations.  The pull-throughs are barely off the road and very sandy.  Take extra blocks if you go because our site was uneven tip to tail.

2. Easy to maneuver big rigs, we saw some 5th wheels, and 25+ footers in here.

3. This smaller loop of Bodega dunes is so quite, the other loops are sandy and crowded close together.  It was a very different vibe.  It was Memorial Day weekend but our site was out of chaos down below, kids running all around.  Great if you have a gaggle and want to let loose, but if not, stick to the loop with sites 13 and 15.

4.  A very short drive to the water.

5. A little trial behind the site connects you to a Sunday farmers market and a Mexican restaurant.  That's about a 10 minute scenic walk.

6. The dump station and water fill up spigot were excellent.

7.  It's 10 minute drive to Fishermen's cove. A FANTASTIC restaurant. Everything we ate was excellent.

8. Nice people.

9. The fire bundles are small for $10 so maybe (gulp) bring some with you.

Bad: nothing I can think of.  We didn't use the facilities.

Lovely accessible campsites right on the beach

I stayed in campsite 4 for two nights (Dec. 24 & 25) with my two small dogs. The view from my campsite was mostly blocked by trees (one of the only campsites on the beach side with a blocked view), but I do think it shielded my tent from the seabreeze at night, which was nice! The location of this campground can’t be beat. The sites are very close together, but everyone was friendly and the sound of the waves somewhat muffles the sounds of neighboring campers. The walk to the bathrooms is flat and easy from all sites. Highly recommend — will be coming again, probably trying to book one of sites 5-10 for the prime beach views!

Bodega bay dunes weekens

Site 18 was perfect for our rig and a nice layout easy to level. Definitely a little warmer then down below my brother in law was in 88 it was a little tight for his camper but still a good site.

A Gem on the Sonoma Coast

This campground is located on mile-long stretch of beach within the Sonoma Coast State Park. I lived in Sonoma County for 15 years and this is my favorite beach. I would often visit from the north side of the beach near Genesis Pointe where there is a parking lot to access the beach. I would always look at the campground and think how great it would be to camp there. It was. I drove there in my truck camper on a whim to see if they might have an open site. It was around Christmas and the weather was not great so they had several open premium sites. I stayed in site 4 the first night and move to site 9 for the second night. These sites are right on the beach. Awesome. One of the great things about this beach is that you can walk a hundred yards from the campground and not see anyone for a mile. However, this park is overpriced and underserved. There are no hookups and no showers or laundry. This has been my experience throughout California. The parks here pale in comparison to Oregon and Florida.

Love this place!

We stayed at camp site 4. Half sand half dirt. There are tons of hills for kids to play on. There are no surroundings campsite so it is pretty quiet. All in all this is a great campsite and we will be back.

Steps from the beach

This is a small campground of 28 reservable spots plus a few first come first serve just north of Bodega Bay. There is no water fill up (there are a couple of spigots) but fill and dumping are available at Bodega Dunes. Nice clean flush toilets but no showers (available at Bodega Dunes). Best part is that you’re literally steps from the beach. Can be windy but some of the sites are pretty well protected.

Wrights beach weekend.

Honestly I don’t even know where to start. This campground is in the perfect location. The beach is amazing and you feel like you have it all to yourself and your fellow campers. Our site was tucked away from the ocean breeze but only steps away from the sand. We did have little visitors at night but they were harmless.

Heaven on earth

My favorite. Very few sites. 1/3 on the beach, 1/3 in the trees, 1/3 on gravel. Big spacious. Any spot is a good spot. Walk up to the ocean. Fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Close to cute town. Lots to do.

Tiny sites

Got site 22 as a walk in. Luckily our car has a bed setup. There is basically no room for a tent at most of the sites here. Ground is paved, no dirt/sand. No showers, poor value for $35 a night. Beach is nice.

Van was almost on beach. Great to wake up with the waves crashing. Great camp.

Beautiful but closed

Recent flooding has closed this park and it is a shame. We walked through and saw no reason for closure. Sites were on beach. I have learner the hard way, check all campgrounds before you go. Some are seasonal, some are washed away.

Camping on the ocean

Spent 4 nights at this wonderful state park. Campsites 1 through 11 are literally on the beach. We stayed in site 2 which is an ADA. It was smaller than the others and didn’t have a full ocean view but still slept great listening to the waves off the ocean. No hookups, but water is close by. Lots of raccoons at night so be sure to use their food lockers. Bathrooms are clean and well kept. There are no showers. But if you like the sound of the ocean, this is a great place!

Meh

Small spaces but on the beach. Depends what you are looking for. This campground felt cramped to me. Walking on the beach was nice, but not really a swimmable beach due to rocks and huge waves. Bathrooms were clean. No showers. I would chose a different campground next time.

Love this campground

Sites 1-9 are beach front and separated by thick foliage for a tad bit of privacy. The other sites are just steps away from the beach and shaded by trees. I would consider this camp ground dog friendly as both times I've come here most people have dogs with them. Be prepared for chilly winds... Even if the forecast looks nice take layers! There are multiple trails all along the Pacific coast hwy as well as scenic overlooks that can keep you busy all day. The water is not suitable for swimming in along most of this shoreline due to dangerous rip currents and sleeper waves and there are many signs that will tell you so. This however does not detract from the experience of camping in this place. Sites are often booked for months in advance, particularly the first 9. There are a few flush toilets centrally located but no showers.
