Best Campgrounds near Powhatan, AR

Campgrounds near Powhatan, Arkansas range from developed state parks to city-operated facilities, with most sites concentrated along waterways and forested areas. Lake Charles State Park Campground, located about 30 minutes from Jonesboro, offers tent sites, RV hookups, and yurt accommodations on a 645-acre lake. Davidsonville Historic State Park provides full-hookup sites with sewer connections, while Pocahontas City Park features seven full-service concrete pads with boat launch access. The region includes both primitive camping options and established campgrounds with modern amenities.

Road conditions throughout the area typically feature narrow, winding routes characteristic of rural Arkansas. "Narrow roads lead toward the campgrounds and we hope you enjoy the state. Take your time," noted one camper about traveling to Lake Charles State Park. Summer months bring high humidity and temperatures, with mosquitoes and flies becoming prevalent, particularly near water. Most campgrounds in the area remain open year-round, though amenities like bait shops and visitor centers may operate seasonally. Cell service varies throughout the region, with better coverage near larger towns like Jonesboro. Many campgrounds require reservations, especially for premium waterfront sites during peak seasons.

Fishing opportunities represent a significant draw for campers in the Powhatan area, with multiple lakes and rivers supporting bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. Lake Charles State Park receives particular attention for its fishing access, with one visitor noting it is "definitely a fishing destination but offers many other activities of camping." Hiking trails of varying difficulty can be found throughout the region's parks, with some featuring interpretive signage about local history and ecology. Campers consistently mention the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of the area, particularly appreciating the wooded sites that provide shade during hot Arkansas summers. Bathhouses and facilities at state parks generally receive positive reviews for cleanliness and maintenance, with several parks featuring recently renovated facilities with air conditioning—a welcome amenity given the region's humidity.

    Fourche Lake Rec Area

    Nearly perfect!

Amazing camp ground, we got the best spot right on the water. It was quiet and relaxing. Plenty of downed wood for a fire. Great spot to put in kayaks. Managed to catch one fish! My only complaint is the bathroom was locked, definitely didn’t play on having to pee outside.

Fourche Creek Rv Park and Riding Trails

    Beautiful and full of nature

What a cute hidden gem! Hosts were so attentive and helpful-the grounds were so green and view of the woods and pond was so relaxing- bathrooms were clean with hot water and flush toilets and the horse stalls were conveinent from our site- we brought our own stall bedding and buckets but they provided a tack room, pitch fork , whellbarrow and shovel to help us clean up after our horses- enjoyed their private trails that went around the big lake- town was only 8 min away to get a few things at the store- Happy Camper

    Lake Charles State Park Campground

    Woods and water!

Well maintained state park with a swimming beach, walking/biking trails, playgrounds.  We used this as a stopping point for a longer journey and enjoyed the warm water in the showers and the lake views.  Mosquitoes were a bit of a nuisance in the evening, but that is to be expected for the area.

    Whitten River Access

    Spent a cold night here

Arrived after dark. Found a level spot by the river, ground was frozen or it would have been muddy. No one around on this 5 degrees F night. Access road is steep but not rough.
