    Current River Campground

    Not particularly worth it.

Location is great. The campground is on the basic side, with gravel and dirt everywhere. Not an issue, if that's what you're expecting.

We were in site 45 and our friends in site 46. These are both 30 amp sites, no sewer, and we both have 50 amp service. This shouldn't be a problem, assuming we're pulling less than 30 amps. With 1 AC running, were only pulling less than 15 amps, but still having multiple electrical issues the whole weekend. Both sites ended up having to run our generators most of the time we were here. The staff did come out and take a look at the pedestals, and even replaced the breaker on ours. We were told that because we were at the end of the line, and we had big rigs, that it was causing issues. However, it shouldn't be causing an issue if we weren't pulling more than 30 amps, which we weren't. (On a normal 30 amp service, our rig will run 2 ac units without issue.) Multiple times, we were receiving less than 100 volts, which shut our Bulldog EPO off.

We went to check at the office as we left for the dump station location. I was told that they could dump for you for $20 or, you could back into a full hook up site and dump for a $5 fee. We have been full time since November and this is the 1st time I've encountered needing to pay to dump when full hokkups weren't available. I double checked the website and couldn't find anything that mentioned a fee to dump.

The staff did credit us 1 night stay and we didn't end up having to pay to dump.

Long story short, definitely paid for the location to the river. We backed up onto the water and let down our ramp/patio for a nice view.

    Road Runner RV Park

    Nicely spaced and clean campground

We stayed at this campground 1 night on our way between COVID-19 quarantine locations.  We found the park easy to navigate (no tight turns).  Large semi paved spaces (I say semi paved because the concrete pads were crumbling at least in our spot).  Good separation between sites with picnic tables, no shade but they do have a dog park.  Hookups were easy to reach and appeared to be in good repair.  Decent water pressure.  Many of the spaces were permanent campers or long term workers but it felt safe and appeared well maintained.

    Dam - Quarry

    Clean campground, nice location

Average space between sites. Level paved sites with gravel picnic area including picnic table, fire ring, lantern hanger. Some sites had covered picnic area. Limited shade, most sites don’t have trees. Good access to sites. Clean and private bathrooms. Each room had its own lockable bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Garbage cans were outside of bathrooms, as well as dumpsters near the registration building. Friendly staff upon check in. Campground was patrolled regularly. No laundry or recycling. Nearby road with little road noise. Verizon cell signal was excellent. There is a dump station and potable fill station. No store or food for purchase on site. No hiking in campground, but multiple trails nearby. Boat ramp at campground and lots of wading fly fishing in river. Fish hatchery across from campground.

Chipmunk Crossing RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

    Clean woodsy Rv Park

We stopped for 1 night on the way to Wyoming it is way off the beaten path but what a nice campground. The owners were selling it when we were there they had it a long time. The Pool was so cool and refreshing and no one was there. There's nothing around there so come prepared. There are rolling hills, narrow road and paved.

We almost had the place to ourselves so quiet and well maintained.

Round Spring Campground — Ozark National Scenic Riverway

    Choose Tent Site Carefully

Positives: Tranquil little campground with beautiful spring and cave. Quiet, shady, has two points of river access, group sites, and steaming hot showers.  Close to Echo Bluff State Park, Current River State Park, and Eminence, MO.

Negatives:  Test sites are hit or miss. Sites 1-18 are fairly small and not very level. Sites 19-29 have larger, more level areas. 30-39 are kind of mixed.  Many sites have steps up of down to the site from the road.  There is no cell service available, so make sure you have made reservations before you get here. Closest cell service is up the road at Echo Bluff State Park.

Other info: You may get lucky and see otters on your way to the spring, or some of the wild horses in the area. Go in the early morning to the spring trail to watch the mist roll off the water and enjoy the wildlife - so otherworldly.

Cave tours are available June - Oct., but even if you visit is outside of this window, the walk to the cave is kind of magical.

If you walk to the spring overlook, you'll also encounter a portion of the Ozark Trail. About a half a mile down the Ozark Trail you can cross the Current River on a pedestrian bridge which is a pretty cool experience.

Bathrooms available on the upper camping loop, but the showers are located on the bottom loop (three family style showers).  Fantastic water pressure.

Host was friendly even when he had to tell us we couldn't hang hammocks in National Park campgrounds.

While you're there drive down to Alley Spring for a nice hike, another beautiful spring and historic mill, and at the camp store you can get a National Parks Passport stamp (located in the screened in porch) for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.

We stayed in site 13 which is located directly behind the bathrooms. Good if you have to go all the time, bad if you don't like to hear loud toilet flushes.  Very shady site.

    Dam - Quarry

    River view

Decent campground with excellent trout fishing! The campground layout was kinda weird and the dump station was in an odd spot. However, we had a nice river front site that we really enjoyed. Lots of nice people in the campground and on the river. Be sure to visit the hatchery across the street. . Limited AT&T service. Individual Private suite style bathrooms. Playground. No store, no firewood for sale. Level sites. Several sites have covers over the picnic tables. .

    Road Runner RV Park

    Nice park fair wifi

Very friendly and upbeat host. Loves their campground. Mostly full-timers but even though they have 18 people on the waiting list for a full time spot still they reserve several pull throughs for short term guests.  And they are expanding the park to accommodate more guests.  We were in a close to level spot with newer looking hook ups.

Guide to Koshkonong

Camping areas near Koshkonong, Missouri provide year-round access to Ozark Mountain terrain at elevations ranging from 700-1,000 feet. The region experiences distinct seasons with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Many campgrounds operate through winter months with varying levels of services, though water systems may be winterized at some locations from November through March.

What to do

Horseback riding trails: Fourche Creek RV Park and Riding Trails offers private trails around a large lake with convenient horse stalls near camping sites. "Hosts were so attentive and helpful... we brought our own stall bedding and buckets but they provided a tack room, pitch fork, wheelbarrow and shovel to help us clean up after our horses," notes Kelly M.

Kayaking and fishing: Salem RV Park provides water recreation opportunities with access to nearby streams and fishing spots. According to visitor Donna M., guests "had a blast kayaking and fishing!" The park maintains boat-in access points and rents basic fishing equipment to visitors during warmer months.

Community events: Ozarks Mountain Springs RV Park hosts regular social gatherings including open mic nights and community barbecues. Bill J. reports, "It was a Saturday night and there was an open mic night and bbq. The atmosphere was light and fun and the people rocked!"

What campers like

Natural settings: Campers appreciate the wooded environments at several parks. One visitor to Ozarks Mountain Springs RV Park mentioned, "We needed a tent site for one night and we ended up getting a whole grove of trees to ourselves!" The park maintains separate wooded areas for tent campers away from RV sections.

Layout and design: Crown Lake RV Resort receives praise for thoughtful site arrangements. Leslie D. explains, "This campground was designed perfectly with family and couples in mind. The sites aren't very big but they are set up in such a way that even if someone parks next to you, it will not ruin your view."

Green spaces: Fourche Creek RV Park maintains well-kept grounds with scenic views. "Wonderful spacious sites, nicely groomed lawns... very relaxing place to be," writes Reta G. The park features open grassy areas surrounding a central pond and wooded sections.

What you should know

Site conditions: Road Runner RV Park (now called Silver Springs RV Park) offers concrete pads that may show wear. Charles F. notes, "Large semi paved spaces (I say semi paved because the concrete pads were crumbling at least in our spot)." Most sites include utility connections with external lighting for evening hookups.

Permanent residents: Several parks in the region serve long-term residents alongside short-term campers. Candace M. observed at Road Runner RV Park, "This is definitely a primarily permanent resident and we were definitely the interlopers at the site." Parks typically reserve designated areas for transient RVers.

Tree coverage varies: While some campgrounds offer heavily wooded sites, others provide more open settings. Mary D. describes Ozarks Mountain Springs as having "definitely a wooded setting" but notes you could "tell work was being done to clear away brush and debris." Road noise may be noticeable at locations near highways.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming access: Road Runner RV Park maintains a swimming pool open during summer months. "Enjoyed the pool," notes Alana R., who visited during a warmer season. Pool facilities generally operate from Memorial Day through early September, weather permitting.

Budget-friendly options: Tent campers can find economical sites at several parks. A visitor to Ozarks Mountain Springs commented, "The rates were very very affordable too!" with tent sites typically running $15-25 per night compared to full-hookup RV sites.

Bathroom facilities: Campground bathroom quality varies significantly throughout the region. Sandra M. found "clean bathrooms and showers" at Ozarks Mountain Springs, while facilities at other parks may be more basic. Some locations offer single-unit bathrooms rather than communal facilities.

Tips from RVers

Navigation: Most parks accommodate larger RVs, though some require careful maneuvering. One visitor to Jewells RV Park cautioned, "We have a 37 foot 5er and had to do some difficult maneuvering to get turned around when we left. The trees are overgrown and the spots are very poorly laid out."

Seasonal considerations: Winter camping is available at select locations. Candace M. noted during a December stay at Road Runner RV Park, "Even though we were there in late December all utilities were still on. Electrical connection even had a light to assist with connection."

Reservation practices: Many rv parks near Koshkonong, Missouri maintain spots for travelers despite high occupancy rates. Jerry W. observed at Road Runner RV Park, "Even though they have 18 people on the waiting list for a full time spot still they reserve several pull throughs for short term guests."
