Best Campgrounds near Texarkana, AR

Campgrounds near Texarkana span both Arkansas and Texas sides of the state line, offering a mix of developed facilities and lakeside settings. The area features several established campgrounds including Texarkana KOA, Sunrise RV Park, and Atlanta State Park Campground, with accommodations ranging from tent sites to full-hookup RV spots and rental cabins. Wright Patman Lake serves as a focal point for outdoor recreation, with multiple Corps of Engineers campgrounds providing water access. Most campgrounds in the region maintain year-round operations, though some like Piney Point operate seasonally from March through November.

Access to campgrounds varies widely, with most developed sites offering paved roads suitable for all vehicles. Many campgrounds provide full hookups for RVs, while tent campers can find both primitive and improved sites throughout the area. Weather considerations include hot, humid summers and mild winters, making spring and fall particularly pleasant for camping. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekend stays at popular lakeside campgrounds. Cell service can be spotty at some locations, particularly those farther from town. A camper noted, "Atlanta State Park is nestled pretty far off the beaten path deep in the pineywoods. It sits on the edge of Wright Patman Lake near the Texarkana region on the Texas side."

Waterfront camping represents a significant draw in the Texarkana area, with several campgrounds offering direct lake access. Wright Patman Lake supports multiple camping areas including Clear Springs, Rocky Point, and Piney Point, each providing boat ramps and swimming areas. According to one visitor, "Wright Patman Lake is a decent lake, but does have a fair amount of stumps along the edges - watch for the bouyees. Fishing is good, water can get very warm in the summer which is nice for swimming." Campground amenities typically include clean restrooms, showers, and picnic areas, though privacy between sites varies considerably. Interior campground loops tend to have closer spacing between sites, while exterior and lakeside sites generally offer more room and better views. Wildlife sightings, particularly deer, are common at several campgrounds in the region.

Crater of Diamonds State Park Campground

    Diamond Mining Fun

What a lovely state park campground. Sites are just close enough not to be crowded. Facilities on site were clean and well maintained. Nice to have a hot shower after mining for diamonds. Will make note that best time to come is October-November. Visitor center was somewhat dated, would have thought they would have basic food stuff and more camper supplies. Other than that it was a nice place and we will come again!

PS if you have a dog who likes to dig this is a nice place for them to help you dig.

Crater of Diamonds State Park Campground

    5star campground 4star site

I’ve reviewed the campground before, for other sites. Most are level and plenty of room/parking length. This site 30 is cramped and has a passenger side tilt to it. I have a 26’ (tip to tail) TT and a crew cab pickup… they will not fit in the campsite end to end, much less with some room to get in to the tailgate. Once unhooked, I had to angle the truck in to overlap the tongue of the TT. Ended up with a 3 inch riser to level the trailer side to side, which puts the first step about 17 inches up. To add to it, there is no level surface much further than the step before the site slopes off steeply with pine needles. The site just seems like the Park wanted to jam another spot in to make 45$ extra a night on busy times. I would not recommend site 30, to anyone. Tent campers would be even worse off, as the tent pad area is back closer to the road.

    Beard's Bluff Park

Peaceful, Easy and suitable for kids!

We got here by chance, not knowing we would stop here for the night and just fell in love with the beauty of the trees and lake!

Easy connection for electric and water and very close by (2 min drive) is a place to dump.

There is a sweet park for little kids to play which is great!

Camp site does cost money and some are pricier than others (hence 4 stars) but overall loved it here.

    Clear Spring

    Rude guard at gate

They made it kind of difficult to even get in the park you have to do everything online these days bathrooms were dirty in the coming and going it was kind of crazy didn't feel too safe how are doing work all the time and they charge too much even if you're just there for the day I thought that was kind of unfair

Texarkana RV Park & Event Center

    Not impressed

Made reservations for a back in site. Upon check in, nobody was in the office. Called the number on the door and was directed to park in the pull-through immediately at the entrance. Gate is broken and doesn’t close, nobody at the check in, RIGHT off the highway. Didn’t feel safe. Very loud. Playground area was very old and not maintained. “Dog park” was a 6ft x 6ft chain link square. Lots of permanent lots that are kind of gross. There is a new Love’s hookup & Sunrise RV parks nearby— will be using those in the future! Will not be back.

    Beard's Bluff Park

Nice smaller campground on large lake

Campground has well spaced sites. All with some lake view or on the lake. Many sites are pull thru. Concrete pads with very nice picnic table, fire pit, and separate grill. Some have shelters/roofs over the picnic table. Bathouse available with showers. Only downside is it is close to a moderately used road.

    Malden Lake Campground

    Beautiful, Well Kept Gem

Extremely well maintained CofE campground, with widely spaced sites set among tall pines and many with views of the lake. Friendly, helpful staff at the booth. Electric and water at the sites, with a dump station on the way out.

    Texarkana KOA

    Nasty

Te office is nasty dirty has a moldy smell. The bathhouse has mold on shower curtains no soap to wash hands problem flushing toilet.  There was wires zip tied to lady's side . No security after hours and no way to get help after lady leaves at 5. The dog park had poop everywhere and other campers had dogs running off chain. No lights at night was very scary the back of park was awful.  Grass and weeds growing up needs a major clean up and maintenance!!! The playground is near drains that child could fall and very outdated and ran down. Wifi was very poor to say less

Guide to Texarkana

Camping near Texarkana spans both Arkansas and Texas, offering sites along Wright Patman Lake and other nearby waterways. Winter temperatures typically range from 30-60°F with summer highs often exceeding 90°F from June through September. Most campgrounds have paved access roads suitable for standard vehicles, though interior roads at some locations can be narrow with tight turns.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Clear Spring campground provides direct lake access with multiple fishing spots. One visitor noted, "Nice place for a weekend getaway. The reservoir was low. Looks like it is a popular place in the summer."

Explore hiking trails: Atlanta State Park Campground offers several well-maintained trails through pine forests. A camper reported, "Trails are beautiful and if you piece them together can be challenging. These are not wide, take the baby stroller kind of trails. The nature trail goes over a couple foot bridges and has a lot to see."

Swimming access: Millwood State Park Campground features a beautiful lake with swimming areas. A visitor mentioned, "The lake is BEAUTIFUL, we saw an alligator (I was quite excited about that)."

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Rocky Point campers appreciate the spacious layout. One reviewer stated, "The sites are nicely sized, well-spaced apart and angled, providing nice privacy. This is our second time visiting this CG because we enjoyed it last year."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Piney Point campground operates from March through November only, unlike many year-round facilities in the area. Sites are primarily designed for RVs with concrete pads.

Playground access: Forest Lake RV Park features a fishing pond and play areas. A camper shared, "Nice Location near the lake. Away from center city but close enough if you need something."

Beach conditions: Atlanta State Park has beach areas but may experience seasonal issues. A visitor noted, "The sand on the beach is bad. Due to flooding and earth slides the beach front is super deep mud. If there has been even a trickle of rain on the past week you will lose your shoes the mud is so thick."

Site selection tips: Choose exterior sites at Piney Point for more space. A camper advised, "Exterior sites have more space between them than interior sites. Lots of people pulling their boats up to the shoreline and docking there."

Tips from RVers

Leveling considerations: Atlanta State Park Campground has varying pad conditions. A visitor noted, "Pads are fairly level, only took 1 2x12 in the one side, make sure to bring blocks for the rear stabilizers as the pad drops off at the back."

Check hookup access: Texarkana KOA has some utility access limitations. A camper mentioned, "Electric hook up does not work. Water outlet faces directly upward and requires a hose to access the water. It's almost impossible to simply fill a kettle, as the water shoots straight up."

Entrance conditions: Some of the best places to camp near Texarkana, Arkansas have access challenges. At Sunrise RV Park, a visitor noted, "Only downside is there are several potholes on the entrance to the campground. Have to go very slow."
